전 세계적으로 불법목재 방지를 위한 국제적 노력이 확대되고 있으며, 우리나라는 국내에 수입·유통 되는 목재의 합법성을 강화하기 위하여 2019년 ‘합법목재 교역촉진제도’를 시행하고 있다. 합법목재 교역촉진제도는 목재, 목재제품 등을 수입할 시 생산 국가, 수종, 벌채지 등에 대해 합법한 목재임을 입증하는 제도이다. 입증 방법에는 주로 DNA 분석 기술과 현미경을 이용한 해부학적 특징 분석이 함께 이용되고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 목재제품 중 합판의 해부학적 특성을 분석하여 수종 식별을 실시하였다. 공시재료는 합판 생산 기업의 합판을 취급하는 2업체를 선정하여 미송 및 낙엽송 합판을 구입하여 시료를 확보하였다. 각 회사의 합판을 약 1㎤ 크기로 절삭한 뒤, 표판부터 이판까지 하나의 단판으로 분리시켰다. 이후, 분리된 단판을 활주식 마이크로톰과 광학현미경을 이용하여 3단면을 관찰하였다. 식별 결과, 1업체의 미송 합판(7ply)은 표판부터 이판까지 모두 미송이 아닌 소나무류로 판단되며, 낙엽송 합판(9ply)은 이판을 제외한 단판은 모두 낙엽송, 이판은 포플러류로 나타났다. 2업체의 미송 합판(7ply) 역시 모두 미송이 아닌 소나무류였으며, 낙엽송 합판(7ply)은 표판부터 홀수 단판은 낙엽송, 짝수 단판은 소나무류로 나타났다. 2업체 모두 미송 또는 낙엽송 단일 수종으로 이루어진 합판은 없었으며, 다른 침엽수 수종으로 구성되었거나, 침·활엽수 혼합된 합판이 확인 되었다.

This study aimed to update a database of anatomical characteristics of commercial coniferous trees, mainly distributed in Korea, and to observe anatomical characteristics. The wood samples were for example Pinus densiflora (ages: 90, diameter at breast height: 34.4 ㎝), Pinus rigida (ages: 50, diameter at breast height: 33.7 ㎝), Larix gmelinii (ages: 84, diameter at breast height: 33.5 ㎝), and Larix kaempferi (ages: 93, diameter at breast height: 40.6 ㎝). Three sections of each wood samples were examined with an optical microscope to observe the anatomical features, and the tracheid length was measured in units of five growth rings from the pith to the bark. Also, the width of the growth ring and the ratio of the latewood were measured to estimate the wood properties. Typical anatomical characteristics have been found in samples of coniferous trees. However, the average tracheid length value was the longest for Larix kaempferi, 2.91 mm for earlywood, and 3.31 mm for latewood. When the juvenile wood and mature wood were classified according to the difference in tracheid length, the boundary line is considered to be 20~25 growth rings. The width of the growth ring and the latewood ratio were also marginally greater in Larix kaempferi. Since coniferous woods are used for various purposes, such as wood structures and furniture, the results of this study are expected to provide basic data for the use of coniferous woods.
