Seasonal changes in calorific content of subclan, Mantra veneriformis collected from Kunsan areas was measured in 1994. The amounts of feces from subclaim was high from spring to fall according to temperature rising. Variation of calorific contents in feces was varied by month, but was high in June for 3cm group and in September for 2cm group in general. And it was also showed low in February-March and August. The difference between two groups was higher 1.7 times in 3cm group than in 2cm group. The variation of calorific contents in carcass and viscera of subclaim was similar to those of faces, but the differed by size was not appeared. The energy used for respiration was high in summer and low in winter. The calorific contents of shell was low in February and after June. About 60.4~60.6% of total energy loosed for feces, so that the assimilation rate was 39.4~39.6%. It was presumed that the spawning period is between June and August, and the annual ring formation is between February and March;

Seasonal oxygen consumption of surfclam, Mactra veneriformis in Kunsan coastal area had been measured under seasonal ambient temperature condition from January to December 1994. Samples were collected monthly and divided into two groups by shell length of 2 ㎝ (1 year class) and 3 ㎝ (2 year class). The effects of temperature (15, 20 and 25℃) and salinity (10, 20 and 30‰ showed that oxygen consumption decreased with the lower temperature and salinity. Seasonal changes of oxygen consumption in surfclam varied with ambient temperature; it was showed below 0.5 ㎎·g^(-1)·h^(-1) in winter season and 1.93∼2.44 ㎎·g^(-1)·h^(-1) in summer season. The difference of oxygen consumption in two groups was appeared markdly in summer season. The relationships between oxygen consumption and the seasonal ambient temperature were obtained exponential equation as Y=e^(-1.6312+0.0879X) for 2 ㎝ group and Y=e^(-2.2366+0.0994X) for 3 ㎝ group. The slop of regression line between two groups was not significant, and so there was no difference in patterns of the oxygen consumption between two groups.

Oxygen consumption rate of carp juvenile from 7 days to 2 months after hatching and growing in pond was measured in respiratory chamber of laboratory. The oxygen consumption rate of juvenile increased as the body size increased, but the specific weight oxygen consumption rate was decreased with body weight. The relationship between the oxygen consumption rate(R) and body length(L) or body weight(W) were showed allometiric equation as R=0.4840L2.8115(r²=0.8637), R = 25.8140W0.8893(r²=0.8894), respectively. The crossing point from individual oxygen consumption rate and specific weight oxygen consumption rate on the water temperature was appeared at around 25.7℃. It means that metabolic efficiency of carp juvenile being affected by temperature when the water temperature over 26℃.
