This study is made, considering that cadmium has various problems as an impurity in the electrowinning process of zinc, (1) to elucidate the behavior of zinc-cadmium electrodeposition depending upon the change of several fundamental factors of the process, (2) to observe the procedure of zinc-cadmium alloy electrodeposition with reference to the polarization curves, (3) to find out the mechanism of the formation of metallic hydroxide according to high pH value in the vicinity of the cathode, and finally (4) to make clear the mechanism of zinc-cadmium alloy deposition by measurement film resistance.

Zinc-Cadmium alloys were obtained from a plating bath containing cadmium sulfate, zinc sulfate, glue and sulfuric acid (for adjusting PH of solution) plating variables studied were metal % of Cd in the bath, cathodic current density, temperature, and PH of the bath The following results were obtained : (1) Cd % in the deposits increased with the increases in metal % Cd in the bath and total metal ion concentration and the rise of temperature. (2) Cd % in the deposits decreased with the increases in acidity value of the bath and cathodic current density. (3) Cathodic current efficiencies for the alloy deposition increase with the increase in Cd % in the deposits, which showed an evident upper limit.
