Lonicerae Flos has antibacterial effects against Staphylococcus aureus, streptococci, pneumococci, Bacillus dysenterii, Salmonella typhi, and paratyphoid. It is an antiviral agent. The herb has a cytoprotective effect against $CCl_{4}-induced$ hepatic injury. It has antilipemic action, interfering with lipid absorption from the gut. Nowadays this herb is used mainly in the treatment of upper respiratory infections, such as tonsillitis and acute laryngitis. It is also used in the treatment of skin suppurations, such as carbuncles, and to treat viral conjunctivitis, influenza, pneumonia, and mastitis. Lonicerae Flos is dried flower buds of Lonicera japonica, L. hypoglauca, L. confusa, or L. dasystyla. But, for the most part, we use whole plant of Lonicera japonica, as a flower bud of it. And, little is known of the original copy of effects of whole plant, except for the 'Bon-Cho-Gang-Mok', which is written the effects of flower of Lonicera japonica are equal to effects of leaves and branch of it. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of flower and whole plant of Lonicera japonica on the regulatory mechanism of cytokines, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase (COX-2) for the immunological activities in Raw 264.7 cells. In Raw 264.7 cells stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to mimic inflammation, flower and whole plant of Lonicera japonica water extracts inhibited nitric oxide production in a dose-dependent manner and abrogated iNOS and COX-2. Flower and whole plant of Lonicera japonica water extract did not affect on cell viability. To investigate the mechanism by which flower and whole plant of Lonicera japonica water extract inhibits iNOS and COX-2 gene expression, we examined the on phosphorylation of inhibitor ${\kappa}B{\alpha}$ and assessed production of $TNF-{\alpha}$, $interleukin-1{\beta}$ $(IL-1{\beta})$ and interleukin-6 (IL-6). Results provided evidence that flower and whole plant of Lonicera japonica inhibited the production of $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6 and activated the phosphorylation of inhibitor ${\kappa}B{\alpha}$ in Raw 264.7 cells activated with LPS. These findings suggest that flower and whole plant of Lonicera japonica can produce anti-inflammatory effect, which may play a role in adjunctive therapy in Gram-negative bacterial infections, respectively.

저자들은 특이 기저 질환 없는 환자에서 반복된 실신으로 비소세포 폐암이 현하였고 항암 치료 및 방사선 치료 후 실신이 호전 되었던 예를 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Although syncope is a common problem, lung cancer rarely presents with episodic syncope. We herein report a case of syncope as the initial presentation of the mediastinal lung cancer. A 54-year-old man presented to the emergency department after episode of syncope. On arrival, His blood pressure was 60/39mmHg and pulse rate was 35 beats per minute. The 12 leads electrocardiogram showed marked sinus bradycardia with 2:1 degree AV block. After treatment with intravenous administration of atropine and isoproterenol infusion, he recovered. The image studies revealed mediastinal tumor with lympadenopathy which was pathologically confirmed as the adenocarcinoma of lung cancer. He was treated with chemotherapy and radiation therapy and no further syncopal attacks were observed. This case emphasizes the importance of an appropriate evaluation and broad differential diagnosis for patients with episode of syncope.
도내 산단 주변 하천의 수질 특성 및 생태독성 평가 연구

The purpose of this study is to evaluate quality of water on rivers in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex and to analyze the water quality factors that cause ecotoxicity. The subjects of the research were Namsucheon 4 stations, Jungheungcheon 2 stations and Sangamcheon 2 stations of Yeosu National Industrial Complex in Jeollanam-do. In addition, as a control group, water environment monitoring 8 stations in Jeollanam-do were selected for analysis. Physicochemical items and ecotoxicity were analyzed according to the Water Pollution Process Test Standards. Analysis results of water pollution items, BOD was 0.1 mg/L ~ 3.0 mg/L, TOC was 0.2 mg/L ~ 12.4 mg/L, SS was 0.4 mg/L ~ 72.0 mg/L, and T-N was 0.28 mg/L ~ 3.70 mg/L, T-P was 0.005 mg/L ~ 1.526 mg/L, total coliform was 0 ~ 1,200,000 total coliforms/100 mL, ABS was not detected ~ 0.15 mg/L, cyan was not detected ~ 0.07 mg/L, and organic phosphorus and phenols were not detected at all points. In terms of heavy metal analysis results, Mn was not detected ~ 0.505 mg/L, Fe was not detected ~ 1.633 mg/L, Zn was not detected ~ 0.733 mg/L, Cu was not detected ~ 0.014 mg/L, Ba was not detected ~ 0.052 mg/L, and seven items including Hg were not detected. Cyan was detected seven consecutive times in range of 0.01 mg/L ~ 0.07 mg/L at the H point. Compared with the 8 points of the water environment monitoring stations selected as the control group, the 8 points of the rivers around the Yeosu National Industrial Complex stations were managed relatively well, as there are no peculiarities. We calculated the toxicity value and evaluated the toxicity level of the river around the Yeosu National Industrial Complex using Daphnia magna. We expect that the result of this study will be used as basic data when government establish the policies of comprehensive management for rivers in the future.
