BAS는 군집 B(“극적인 행동과 불안정한 정서”가 특징)의 성격증상들과 연결되었고, BIS는 군집 C(“높은 수준의 불안”이 특징)의 성격증상들과 연관이 있었다. Revised-Reinforcement Sensitivity theory(r-RST), consisting of the behavioral activation system(BAS), behavioral inhibition system(BIS) and fight/flight/freeze system(FFFS), presupposes individual differences in the sensitivity of basic brain systems that respond to punishing and reinforcing stimuli. These differences are thought to underlie the personality dimensions of impulsivity, anxiety, and fear, to have relevance for personality disorders(PDs). The current investigation aims at studying of associations between personality based on r-RST and PDs of Cluster A/B/C. 398 college students(215 males ; 183 females) completed measures of the Sensitivity to Punishment and Sensitivity to Reward Questionnaire(SPSRQ, Torruba et al., 2001) and the Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire-4+(PDQ-4+, Hyler et al. 1992). Data were analyzed through the Pearson’s correlation analysis, the Fisher’s Z test, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Findings of this study confirmed that symptoms of Cluster B PDs (characterized by “erratic”) are indicative of high BAS levels whereas symptoms of Cluster C PDs (characterized by “anxious/fearful”) are characterized by high BIS levels. For Cluster A PDs (characterized by “odd/eccentric”), according to expectation that would be associated with a mix of BIS and BAS specific to each PD, we also found a mixed pattern. But the mixed pattern was found not only in PD types, but also by gender. That is, low FFFS among both males and females with high schizoid PD symptoms was found. And high BAS in females, whereas high BIS in males with high paranoid and schizotypal PDs symptoms were found. Finally, we discuss the limitations of the study and implications for future research.
