Purpose:For optimizing properties of final glasses frame, the aim of this study is to examine the correlation of processing conditions and properties of cellulose acetate (CA) sheets through the investigation of properties of CA sheets prepared under processing steps. Methods: The properties of CA sheets were investigated in terms of different glasses frame processing conditions, bending process, barrel process, and ultrasonic cleaning process. CA sheets prepared through the sequential processing were examined by various analysis: gloss, mechanical properties, thermal properties. Results: After barrel process, hardness and tensile strength of CA sheet were increased. However, bending strength and impact strength were decreased. It is suggested the CA sheet had became rather stiff state (brittle). Also, in degradation temperature region of plasticizer, about 3% of reduction in plasticizer weight was confirmed upon TGA analysis. Conclusions: Glasses frame process, especially in the barrel process have a profound influence on the properties of CA sheet owing to reduction of total amount of plasticizer.

Cellulose acetate (CA)/polyethylene glycol (PEG)/triacetin (TA) blend films with different composition ratios were prepared by solution casting method to evaluate the effect of TA on the secondary structure and mechanical properties CA/PEG blend films. The cast CA/PEG blend films were drawn under various zone-drawing conditions determined by rheometry. Maximum draw ratio, degree of orientation, crystallinity, surface morphology, and mechanical properties were studied at different TA concentrations. CA/PEG/TA films had higher drawability and degree of orientation than CA/PEG and CA/TA films. Also, the mechanical properties of CA/PEG/TA films were better owing to their ordered structure. TA acted as a compatibilizer to facilitate the extension of polymers in the direction of zone-drawing, when CA or CA/PEG blend films were drawn. This could be a potential solution to the problem of low tensile strength in melt-spun CA/PEG fibers.

This study is related to the preparation of biocompatible gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) which are stable in aqueous solutions for a long time. Ultrasmall polyethyleneimine (PEI)-capped AuNPs (PEIAuNPs) with limited agglomeration were prepared in aqueous solutions at room temperature, which were based on the roles of PEI as a reductant and a stabilizer. PEI-AuNPs with an average size of 8∼12 nm formed highly stable nanocolloids with an average hydrodynamic cluster size of around 50 nm in aqueous media. At a low concentration of metal precursor hydrogen tetrachloroaurate(III), the particle size was reduced noticeably. The typical peaks of gold were observed in the X-ray diffraction pattern of AuNPs. The cell viability of 98% was obtained in the case of PEI-AuNPs, while PEI was cytotoxic. The PEI-AuNP is considered to be a potential candidate as a contrast agent for computed tomography.
