Background : Arterial blood gas analysis is the most comon exam in intensive care unit. In this study, the frequency of blood gas analysis and the amount of blood loss after Blood Gas Analysis in Intensive Care Unit were observed. Methods : From November 1999 to February 2000, 115 patients admitted to intensive care unit at Soonchunhyang university Kumi hospital were studied prospectively for the frequency of blood gas analysis and the amount of blood loss after blood gas analysis in Intensive Care Unit. Results : The mean value of frequency of blood gas analysis was 6.41±6.49 and the mean value of amount of blood loss after blood gas analysis was 0.78ml. This was lower than that of other foreign reports. The patients with ventilator therapy above 24 hours showed higher frequency of blood gas analysis than that of not applied ventilator patients. Pulse oxymetry was applied to all patients and the frequency of blood gas analysis was decreased due to the use of strict pulse oxymetry. Conclusion : Doctors and nurses in intensive care unit keep in mind that adequate blood sampling is needed for the decrease of blood loss. Education and protocol for the decrease of blood loss after arterial blood gas analysis may be necessary.

Methods: Prospective study was performed in 62 varicose vein patients who were treated with compression sclerotherapy from Mar. 1999 to Mar 2001. Sclerosing agent was used by 1%, 3% sodium tetradecyl sulfate and high concentrated agent was injected in proportion to vessel diameter. And then the patients wore compression stocking for 2 months. Results: The prevalent age group consisted of fourth decade and mean age was 39. The female to male ratio was 3.8:1. The site of varicose vein was similar to both side and major involved vein was greater saphenous vein. Duration of the varicose vein was mostly 1-20 years. All patients were complained of cosmetic problem and other symtoms were heaviness, walking discomfort, pain and leg edema. The most etiologic factor was pregnancy. Average frequency of injection was 1.65±0.55 and mean follow-up periods was 11.9 months. There was no recurrence during follow-up periods. The most patients were satisfied with compression sclerotherapy and satisfaction degree was 4.84±0.42. Hyperpigmentation was developed in all case but normalized after 3-6 months. Other complications was leg edema, superficial thrombophlebitis, and hematoma. Contact dermatitis appeared as complication ,especially summer, due to compression stocking. Conclusion: Compression sclerotherapy showed good results and minimal side effects in varicose vein of the lower extremities. Compression sclerotherapy may be primary treatment in selected cases.

The results of the survey are as follows. First, most of students participated in the study circle through personal network such as their friends and professors. Second, they joined the study circle to expand the opportunity of study or to improve the ability of study. Third, they have run the circle well, are satisfied and have an idea to attend this kind of activities in the future. Fourth, they responded that partnership with team members and the leadership of the leader are the important factors for the activities of study circle. Fifth, they replied that the pre-study as well as the close relationship with team members should be preceded for the units that they are going to study. The research results of this study on how to improve the study circles show the followings. First, it is necessary for the students to be educated so that they can organize and run the study circle. Second, it is needed for the group members to have the common relationship each other. Third, the role of teachers are important to activate the study circle. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of instruction which uses mentoring program in a universities. The sample for this study was 120 professors in a university. They are grouped in pairs and participated in mentoring program for instruction improvement. The results of the study shows that: ① It is found that professors need to have opportunity for instruction improvement. ② There are some change of recognition on methods which show the lens view of the classroom and classroom observation by peer. Though many professors feel the need for classroom observation, they don't have appropriate instruments to use. Because professors regard the observation as teaching evaluation rather than an effective means for professor development. However, professors in industrial university can use observation instruments and techniques to find out what actually is going on in their instruction improvement. ③ Most of professors realize the mentoring program is effective for professors to form "Educational Fellowship Culture".
