The purpose of this study was to analyze the magnitude and distribution of stress using a photoelastic model from a distal extension removable partial dentures with three kinds of mandibular major connectors, that is, lingual bar, linguoplate, and swing-lock attachment. A photoelastic model was made of the epoxy resin(PC-1) and hardener(PCH-1) and coated with plastic cement-1 (PC-1) at the lingual surface of the epoxy model and set with three kinds of chrome-cobalt removable partial dentures. A bilateral vertical load of 15kg to the middle portion of the metal bar crossing both the first molars of the right and the left, and a unilateral vertical load of 12.5kg to the right first molar were applied with the use of specially designed loading device and the reflective circular polariscope was used to analyze the photoelastic model under each condition. The following results were obtained : 1. When the bilateral vertical load was applied, the magnitude and distribution of the stress concentration of the edentulous area and the terminal abutment or adjacent teeth was in the order of lingual bar, linguoplate, swing-lock attachment. 2. When the unilateral vertical load was applied, the magnitude and distribution of the stress concentration of the edentulous area and the terminal abutment or adjacent teeth was in the order of lingual bar, linguoplate, swing-lock attachment. 3. When the unilateral vertical load was applied, the magnitude and distribution of the stress concentration of the termial abutment or adjacent teeth on the non-loaded side showed the least stress distribution in case of swing-lock attachment. 4. When the bilateral vertical load and the unilateral vertical load were applied the swing-lock attachment showed the mildest uniform stress distribution on the edentulous area and the alveolar bone around the abutment teeth.

Authors had the patient wear the upper and lower temporary restoration by which the vetical dimension was raised using the remaining lower removable partial denture for about 4 weeks to evaluate the sign and symptom of temporomandibular joint and the equilibration of the masticatory muscle for the patient who had 'a lost vertical dimension caused by not wearing upper and lower removable partial denture for a long time. The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate and provide anterior guidance and esthetics by raising and restoring the vertical dimension lost in the past using the remaining lower removable partial denture. The anterior guidance, in connection with centric relation and vertical dimension, must be regarded as the most important factor in reconstructing th stomatognatic system. The informaition for the posterior and anterior tooth morphology can be attained system. The information for the posterior and anterior tooth morpholoty can be attained solely through the anterior guidance and clinical observation. In the presence of a functional anterior guidance, the recording of the condylar paty is unnecessary. The only information which is obtained through the pantographic system is one form of a posterior tooth morhpology which relates to the TMJ anatomy. The anterior guidance, however, with its influence on the lingual contours of the maxillary anterior teeth and in connection with other factors, will more or less determine the position and length teeth. The height and incline of the cusps and the depth of the central fossae are dependent on the steepness or flatness and length of the anterior guidance path. Therefore, one can conclude that in the presence of an anterior disocclution, the occlusal morphology can be determined by the anterior guidance system and clinical observation. From this clinical study, the good results were obtained phonetically, functionally and esthetically by the replacement of the porcelain fused to metal bridge of the upper 1st bicuspids and the upper and lower anterior teeth after an appropriate anterior guidance was established first and then by the delivery of the conventional upper removable partial denture and the lower removable partial denture using key and keyway attachment.

Despite the development of new impression technique for complete lower dentures, the achievement of adequate retention, support, and stability still remains a devinite problem for many patients. Correct extension of the complete lower denture base is not only essential for the development of retentive forces to best advantage, but it is a prerequisite of maximum stability. But the correct design of the lingual flange of a complete denture continues to challenge the skill and imagination of the dental profession. Owing to limited mobility of the muscles, frena, and membranous attachments, the buccal and labial flanges are more easily managed. Unfortunately, the floor of the mouth rises and falls like the tides of the sea, lengthening and widening the protean lingual vestibule. Therefore, in this articlewe discussed (1) the anatomy of the lingual space and principles underlying lingual design, (2) a technoque for achieveing an optimum lingual flange. If, in the construction of difficult lower dentures, the consideration is given to the dynamic nature of the denture space, it is easier to make satisfactory lower dentures.
