A Photoacoustic detection technigue of electron paramagnetic reaonance(EPR) is developed. The used samples are MnSO₄·4H₂O crystals and the applied electromagnetic wave is the modulated 9.1 GHz microwave. The value of the dc magnetic field at peak position of the EPR absorption is 3.4±0.1 Kgauss which corresponds to 1.91±0.05 in spectroscopic splitling factor g. The absorption curve has approximate line halfwidth of 580 gauss. The g shift which is the difference between the g value of the free electron and the present one is 0.09.

The nickel-zinc-sulfide complex known as nickel black is produced on nickel and galvanized iron bases by the electro-deposition method. The nickel-black-on-nickel selective surfaces give an absorptance of 0.91 and emittance of 0.40. Whereas the nickel-black-on-galvanized-iron selective surfaces give an absorptance of 0.95 and emittance of 0.30. The copper black coatings produced on an aluminum base by using dipping and baking techniques give an absorptance of 0.94 and emittance of 0.42 An absorptance of 0.3 can often be obtained with almost no effect on the emittance of the base; however, by the time absorptance has been raised to 0.9, by using thicker lauyers or other changes in the recipe, the emittance has risen considerably. According to the detailed analysis of the efficiency of the flat-plate solar heat the collector, selective surfaces show better efficiency than the nonselective surfaces.

The physical processes in photoacoustic microscopy are described and applied to studies of surface and structures beneath the surface of solids. The emphasis is given to the physical basis and unique capability of the photoacoustic microscopy. The physical mechanism of the phtoacoustic microscopy is that of thermal diffusion, with a subsurface probe depth of approximately 1~2 thermal diffusion lenght. Definitive experimental evidence is given for the detection of thermal inhomogeneities of solids by the photoacoustic microscope, that are not visualy detected under an optical microscope.

The spectroscopic power spectra analysis on the optical radiation from the color television is performed for the evaluation of potential optical radiation hazrads. Similar measurements are conducted in the UV region of the spectra of solar radiation with air mass 1 and 20W fluorescent lamp. The results are compared with the limit(1mW/㎠) recommended by ACGIH(American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists). It is found that the UV radiation from the color TV is weak enough for the safety of the TV viewers.

An instrument and method of measuring monochromatic hemispherical reflectances of opaque materials are described. In this method a cool sample is exposed is exposed to blackbody radiation from a high temperature source and the monochromatic radiation reflected from the surface is compared to the blackbody radiation from the cavity at that wavelength. The data are thus hemispherical angular monochromatic reflectances. The reflectances of copper black, nickel black and several other black paints are measured by this method.

광음향효과를 이용하여 MnSO₄ㆍ4H₂O, MnCl₂ㆍ4H₂O, CuSO₄ㆍ5H₂O 및 Al₂O₃ : Cr 결정의 상자성 공명을 검출했다. X-밴드 마이크로파의 도파관 내에 광음향 cell을 장치하고 관내에 넣은 short의 위치를 조절하여 도파관 자체가 공명공동이 되도록 함으로써 장치의 감도를 개선했다. g값과 공명신호의 자기장반가폭으로 MnSO₄ㆍ4H₂O의 Mn²^(+)로 부터 1.99±0.03과 260 gauss를, CuSO₄ 5H₂O의 Cu²^(+)로부터 2.31±0.02와 200 gauss를, MnCl₂ 4H₂O로부터 2.06±0.04와 690 gauss를 그리고 Al₂O₃:Cr의 Cr³^(+)로부터 1.97±0.03과 480 gauss를 얻었다. The electron paramagnetic resonances were observed at room temperature in concentrated system, MnSO₄ㆍ4H₂O, MnCl₂ㆍ4H₂O and CuSO₄ㆍ5H₂O and in the dilute system, Al₂O₃: Cr, using photoacoustic technique. A commercial x-band microwave system was modified by introducing the photoacoustic (PA) cell into the microwave cavity to improve the sensitivity of the PA system. The observed g-values and half-widths were 1.99±0.03 and 260 gauss for Mn²^(+) in MnSO₄ㆍ4H₂O crystal, 2.31±0.02 and 200 gauss for Cu²^(+) in CuSO₄ 5H₂O crystal, 2.06±0.04 and 690 gauss for MnCl2 4H₂O crystal, and 1.97±0.03 and 480 gauss for CrCr³^(+) in Al₂O₃:Cr crystal, respectively.
