Effect of alcohol intake on the severity of injuries caused by slipping down

Objective Alcohol consumption is associated with an increased risk of injuries. However, its effects on injury severity and mortality remain unclear. Specifically, the effects of alcohol intake on the severity of slip injuries have not been thoroughly investigated. Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the effects of alcohol intake on injury patterns and severity in patients experiencing slip injuries. Methods Emergency department surveillance data collected from 2011 to 2016 were analyzed for this study. Among patients aged 15 and older who were admitted for slip injuries, we compared the type and severity of injuries between the alcohol-intake group and the no-alcohol-intake group. Injury severity was classified as non-severe and severe based on the excess mortality ratio-adjusted injury severity score. Results In total, 227,548 (alcohol-intake, n=48,581; no-alcohol-intake, n=178,967) patients were included. After adjusting for age, time of injury, use of public ambulance, and season, multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that injuries were more likely to be severe in the alcohol-intake group than in the no-alcohol-intake group (odds ratio, 1.60; 95% confidence interval, 1.47–1.75). In addition, male gender and alcohol consumption had a greater synergistic effect on injury severity than the mere sum of each effect of these factors (odds ratio, 2.65; 95% confidence interval, 2.53–2.78). Conclusion Assessment of the patients influenced by alcohol was a challenge in the emergency department due to altered mental status. We suggest a considerate approach in testing and assessing male patients who slipped after alcohol-intake in the emergency department.
변성 폴리이미드를 이용한 비선형광학재료의 합성 및 특성에관한 연구

The synthetic process and characteristics of organic /inorganic composite 2nd-order NLO materials with modified polyimides was studied in this study with accumulated experiences in the developments of organic/inorganic hybrides NLO materials via Sol-Gel process and in the fabrication of PI. In a detail contents, alkoxy silane dye was made using disperse red1(DR1) with high optical nonlinearity and PI with good thermal stability. The alkoxy silane DR1 will be treated into film form through Sol-Gel process with silane coupling agent. The film form of alkoxy silane DR1-PAA was heat-treatmented after go through the corona poling technique process. So, the of organic/inorganic composite NLO materials of chemical cross-linking structure as highly electro-optic coefficient which results from the formation of imide combination because of excellent thermal stability of imide combination and Si-O combination and stabilization of dye orientation through heat treatment and corona poling technique process.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence and characteristics of tonsillectomy complica-tions, especially about postoperative hemorrhage. Materials and Methods: This study was performed by reviewing the chart of patients who had been operated tonsillectomy in the Cheongju Hankook hospital from 1997 to 2006. Results: Postoperative hemorrhage was occurred to 13.66% of patients. 9.76% of patients had a mild hemorhage but, 3.9% of pateints had a severe hemorrhage which was controlled under general anesthesia. Conclusion: Post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage can lead to expire of patient if uncontrolled. So, operator should have thorough knowlegde about anatomy of tonsil and, manage the complication.

A severely vertical resorbed ridge is a significant challenge in implant dentistry. To solve this problem, several augmentation techniques, such as guided bone regeneration (GBR), onlay bone grafts, distraction osteogenesis, and ridge splitting techniques, have been proposed and used for several years. Among these methods, vertical ridge augmentation using guided bone regeneration aims to build space and guide osteoblasts to this space to promote osteogenesis. The aim of guided bone regeneration is to maintain and stabilize the space and block the proliferation of adjacent soft tissue. In our hospital, we encountered a case of a woman in her forties with an atrophied mandible, who underwent implant surgery in the right mandible. Titanium reinforced Gore-Tex (TRG) was used to augment the mandible and titanium mesh was used in the left mandible. Favorable results were obtained. This report compares the two methods and reviews the relevant literature.

Sinusitis has been reported as a complication of sinus lift surgery. Obstruction of the sinus outflow tract by mucosal edema and particulate graft material may result in sinusitis. Two main surgical procedures have been proposed for the treatment of associated infectious complications; inferior meatal antrostomy and functional endoscopic sinus surgery through transnasal approach. We performed superior lateral wall antrostomy through introral approach in patient suffering from the sinusitis after sinus floor augmentation and implant installation. This procedure permitted easier access to the maxillary sinus for treat sinusitis caused by sinus lifting.
