Natural ventilation is an effective method for improving IAQ(Indoor Air Quality) and removing heats in buildings. In oder to use natural ventilation, many factors such as wind pressure around the buildings and possibility of air intake on different shapes need to be known. On this paper, the natural ventilation performance in multi-housing units of tower-type buildings was investigated. Tower-type multi-housing buildings are recently more and more constructed for they may change urban landscape and get more openness in multi-housing site. However, such housing buildings have problems with natural ventilation because of the various directions of the building units. The purpose of this paper is to find the proper building direction regarding to wind direction in order to optimize air intake in every units in the building.

Internal heat gain describes occupants' life style and it contributes energy consumptions in residential buildings. And the heating, cooling and lighting system operation schedule are also very significant. A standard heat gain and schedule of residential building has not been exist in Korea so that the researchers have made and used their own schedule. In this study as a start, the data which can describe occupants' energy using patterns are gathered and analyzed. the life time use survey, energy consumption pattern poll and power consumption pattern survey data are used to analyze occupancy schedule, lighting schedule, equipment schedule, heating and cooling system operation schedule and natural ventilation schedule. These can compose a standard heat gain and operation schedule of residential building after verification process.

Natural ventilation is an effective method removing heats in buildings. In oder to use natural ventilation, many factors such as wind pressure around the buildings and possibility of air intake on different shapes need to be known. On this paper, the natural ventilation performance analysis on different adjacencies to out door and plan arrangements were done through pollutant concentration on each room by the diffusion of pollutant with the ventilation. 'Open end type' showed better ventilation performance over rall compared to the 'open at right angle type', and revealed that the larger area of living space on airflow area led to less concentration of pollutant. The first, diffusion of polluted material should be prevented. The second, proper distribution of airflow should be done in all areas of the each housing to avoid non-flow area. The third, the formation of short cuts should be avoided.

This study has been conducted to provide the basic datum to draw mechanical equipments needed for aged apartment housing remodeling by questioning survey and interview for residents who has been lived in the aged apartment housing. To preferences survey, we prepare four forms of sheets - questioning survey and interview for residents, interview for managers, and visiting interview for residents. The questioning survey results shows that some residents feel discomfort for water hammer and water supply noise and for noise and stink transmission from air duct installed ceiling to ventilate bathroom. The interview results for residents and managers shows typically two major problems. The first is insulation and heating problems when balcony extended in each household. The second is piping and shaft layouts problem for maintenance and remodeling flexibility. It is important to study indepth each problems because these problems will increase more in the future.

According to the legalization of balcony expansions in apartment houses since January 2006, most of the apartment houses now are built with expanded balcony space. The existing 'balcony' space was physically a buffer between the outside environment and the inside environment. In addition, it was a space that functioned to minimize the indoor environmental changes in relation to external weather changes. However, as apartment houses with extended balconies have become more common recently, the possibility of condensation increased due to the weakening of the insulation capacity as the space that can carry out these environmental buffer roles have disappeared. Also, the indoor thermal environment has been weakened. Thus, this paper seeks to resolve problems related to the expansion of balconies by presenting a new method that improves the insulation and condensation capacity in the window that an apartment housing with an extended balcony should have and to prove prevention of condensation by computer program.

In Korea, Economic growth and the industrialization result in the population concentration in the city and the apartment housing began to be constructed since 1970's. In recent years, There is a situation supplied the apartment houseing at the large quantity. The expansion of balcony has been legalized in apartment in 2006. The balcony space is physically a thermal buffer zone that connects the outside environment with the inside environment. However, because of balcony expnasion, the problem of the window surface condensation has been generated. Thus, The purpose of this study is to investigate occurrence of window condensation followed by indoor and outdoor temperature difference and by diffusion and retardation due to the factor of indoor vapor occurring about apartment units installed in window. This study proposes natural ventilative dual window for the condensation prevention. It is used to be simulated Window 5.2 and Therm 5.2, heat transfer analysis program of window element. of ESP-r 9.0 energy simulation program. Finally, Using analysis of simulation result, the goal of this study proposes optimum window desingn to prevent window condensation
