Kinetics and Mechanism of Ultrasound-assisted Extraction of Paclitaxel from Taxus chinensis

Batch experimental studies were carried out for the ultrasound-assisted extraction of paclitaxel from Taxus chinensis while varying parameters such as ultrasound power, extraction temperature and contact time. The extraction of the majority of the paclitaxel (~99%) was achieved from the biomass by a single extraction at 380W of ultrasound power for a period of 10 min. The kinetics data obtained for the paclitaxel extractions, and the dominant role played by intraparticle diffusion, were found to be in concordance with the pseudo-second-order model, and the intraparticle diffusion model respectively. The effective diffusion coefficient of paclitaxel (4.1882 × 10-13 ~ 5.7093 × 10-13 m2/s) and the mass transfer coefficient (4.705 × 10-8 ~ 14.1160 × 10-8 m/s) increased when the extraction temperature and ultrasound power were raised.
A Case of Enteritis Cystica Profunda in the Ampulla of Vater Mimicking Choledochocele

Enteritis cystica profunda is a very rare disease in which a mucin-filled cystic space is surrounded partially with nonneoplastic columnar epithelium in the submucosa of the small intestine. Most of the cases are accompanied by intestinal diseases, and the disease usually occurs in the jejunum and the ileum and there has been no report of a case that occurred in the ampulla of Vater. A 58-year-old healthy female patient without any particular symptom visited the hospital to get additional examination for a mass found on the ampulla of Vater by accident. In esophagogastroduodenoscopy, a cystic mass showing a positive pillow sign was found on the ampulla of Vater. Endoscopic retrogradecholangiopancreatography was conducted as choledochocele was suspected, but no abnormality was found in the biliary system. In endoscopic ultrasonography, multiseptated cystic structures were detected in the submucosal layer of the duodenum. The lesion was resected completely through endoscopic snare polypectomy and the case was histologically diagnosed as enteritis cystica profunda.

In this paper, the directional coupler for Ku-band, which is designed is of the crossguide type with a coupling value of about 3-dB. The apertures chosen for this design are crosses. We used polynomial approximations of rounded end slot to obtain the electric and magnetic polarizability of crossed-slot and compared the results with Cohn's experimental results. The optimized dimensions and positions of the cross aperture are obtained by a trial-and-error reiteration of the program. This paper presents the measurement results for the designed coupler. The very flat coupling shows a total variation of only 29.80$\pm$0.04dB for the design frequency ranges of 12.25GHz-12.75GHz. The measured minimum directivity is 25dB. The aperture attenuation for the finite diaphragm thickness is about 2dB pr 0.5mm, which is in agreement with the theoretical value. The transmission loss and input return loss at center frequency are 0.0564dB and 48.16dB respectively. We obtained the measured minimum directivity of the coupler. Whose apertures are both circles is better than that containing holes in the performance of directivity.
