        Functional recovery associated with mouth opening after mandibular condyle fracture was a contradictory result of many authors. The treatment goal of condyle fracture has been not only the good reduction and fixation but also the rapid functional recovery with mouth opening capacity. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the mouth opening capacity after surgical or non-surgical treatment of condyle fracture according to the site, level, maxillomandibular fixation (MMF) and operation method based on 39 patients with condyle fracture who were admitted to the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery, Wonkwang University Hospital from May.1, 1990 to Aug.31, 1992. The results were as follows. 1) The most common fracture site was level Ⅳ(17 cases : 42.2 %) and level Ⅰ(14 cases : 36.8), level Ⅱ(5 cases : 13.2%) and level Ⅲ(3 cases : 7.9%) were in decreasing order of frequency. Compound fracture with symphysis was more frequent (69.2 %) than simple fracture (30.8%). 2) The mouth opening capacity was increased in the level Ⅰ compared with level Ⅳ. 3) The mouth opening capacity was increased in the group of segment removal. 4) The mouth opening capacity was increased as the MMF period was decreased. 5) Better mouth opening capacity was recorded in the physical theraypy group of more than 3-4 weeks of treatment period.

        Dysfunction of the inferior alveolar nerve may result from trauma, diseases or iatrogenic injury. The development and refinement of an objective method to evaluate this clinical problem is highly desirable and needed, especially concerning for an increasing medico-legal issue. Evoked potential techniques have attracted considerable attention as a means of assessing the function and integrity of nerve pathways. The purpose of this study was to characterize the Sensory Evoked Potentials(SEPs) and Somatosensory Evoked Potentials(SSEPs) elicited by electrical stimulation of mental nerve. SEPs and SSEPs were measured and analyzed statistically before and after needle injury on the inferior alveolar nerve of Sprague-Dawley rats. Measuring SEPs was more sensitive in evaluation of the recovery of sensory function from inferior alveolar nere injury than measuring SSEPs but we measured SSEPs in the hope of providing a safe, simple and objective test to check oral and facial sensibility, which is acceptable to the patient. We stimulated mental nerve after needle injury on the inferior alveolar nerve and SEPs on the level of mandibular foramen and SSEPs on the level of cerebral cortesx were recorded. Threshold, amplitude, and latency of both of SEPs and SSEPs were analyzed. The results were as follows ; 1. Threshold of SEPs and SSEPs were 184 ± 14μA and 164 14 μA respectively. 2. SEPs were composed of 2 waves, i.e., N1, N2 in which N1 was conducted by Ⅱfibers and N2 was conducted by Ⅲ fibers. 3. SSEPS were composed of 5 waves, of which Nl and N2 showed statistically significant changes(p≤0.01, unpaired t-test). 4. SEPs and SSEPs were observed to be abolished immediately after local anesthesia and recovered 30 minutes later. 5. SEPs were abolished immediately after needle injury. NI of SSEPs was abolished immediately and amplitude of N2 was decreased(20.7 12.2%) immediately after 23G needle injury, but N3, N4 and N5 did not change significantly. Recovery of waveform delayed 30 minutes in SEPs and 45 minutes in SSEPs. 6. The degree of decrease in amplitude of SEPs and SSEPs after 30G needle injury was smaller than those with 23G. SEPs recorded on the level of mandibular foramen were thought to be reliable and useful in the assessment of the function of the inferior alveolar nerve after needle injury. Amplitude of SSEPs reflected the function and integrity of nerve and measuring them provided a safe, simple and objective test to check oral and facial sensibility. These results suggest that measuring SEPs and SSEPs are meaningful methods for objective assessment in the diagnosis of nerve injury. N1 and N2 of SSEPs can be useful parameters for the evaluation of the nerve function following a needle injury.

        PN-PEMS 장비의 개발 및 평가

        Particle number portable emission measurement system (PN-PEMS) is an instrument for measuring number concentration of automobile exhaust. The principle of some pre-existing commercial PN-PEMS is to charge particles and display the number of particles by measuring current. However, this method has some problems for measuring exhaust. In this study, to solve these issues, we have developed a single particle counting PN-PEMS based condensation particle counter (CPC). The PN-PEMS based CPC does not affect driving conditions and it is convenient for mobile because the instrument is small and light in structure. We evaluated counting efficiency of PN-PEMS based CPC by using electrostatic method (electrometer and Faraday cup).

        WLTC 모드에서의 LPG 연료 적용에 따른 하이브리드 자동차 에너지소비효율 분석

        Recently, the global automobile market is rapidly changing from internal combustion engine vehicles to eco-friendly vehicles including electric vehicles. Among eco-friendly vehicles, LPG vehicles are low in fine dust and are suggested as a realistic way to replace diesel vehicles. In addition, it is more economical than gasoline in its class, showing a cost-saving effect. In Korea, the business of converting gasoline into LPG is active. Research is being conducted to apply this to hybrid vehicles. In this study, the difference in energy consumption efficiency was analyzed when LPG fuel was applied by selecting a 2-liter GDI hybrid electric vehicle. The operation of the hybrid system according to various driving characteristics was confirmed by selecting the WLTC mode. As a result, it was confirmed that the BSFC was about 5% lower than that of gasoline fuel when using LPG fuel. This is due to the active operation of the motor while driving. Optimization is required as battery consumption increases from an energy perspective.
