Background Lighting methods and techniques are changed and used according to the purpose in the actual production site. In particular, the image viewed on the screen in the movie can be used as a psychological code as it is merged with the lighting and can further heighten the emotions of the audiences. Methods ‘Farewell My Concubine’ won the Palme d'Or award at the 46th Cannes International Film Festival, and got the nomination on the 66th Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Filmy. In this study, the main scenes of ‘Farewell My Concubine’ movie were extracted and the classification and role of lighting were analyzed to derive the results for visual expression. Result First, the narrative atmosphere was created to be a role and character suitable for a particular period of time. Second, the emotions and the character change of the roles were deeply portrayed by using reverse light treatment. Thirdly, the theme was metaphorically revealed using the lighting composition. Conclusion It will also require thorough preparation for lighting and new attempts beyond the typical methods of freshness and novelty. 연구배경 영화에서 스크린을 통해 보는 영상이미지는 조명과 병합되면서 심리적 코드로 사용되고 관객의 감정을 더욱 고조시킬 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 영화에 나타난 조명의 역할을 통해 조명이 영상의 보조 콘텐츠가 아니라 독립된 표현이 가능한 중요한 요소임을 확인하고자 하였다. 연구방법 ‘패왕별희’는 제46회 칸 국제 영화제에서 황금종려상을 수상하였고, 제66회 아카데미에서는 최우수 외국어 영화상과 촬영 상을 수상하여 중국에서 위대한 영화로 평가되고 있으며 최근 2020년 5월에 재개봉을 한만큼 작품성과 화제성 모두 뛰어난 영화이다. 본 연구에서는‘패왕별희’의 주요장면을 조명의 분류와 조명의 역할로 나누어 이를 바탕으로 배우의 심리적 변화, 조명의 색채 표현, 시간과 공간의 창조, 그림자 표현 등 효과적인 조명 연출과 조명의 역할을 파악하고 분석하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 서사적 분위기를 연출해 특정한 시대적 상황에 맞는 인물을 창조하였고 둘째, 역광 처리를 이용해 캐릭터의 심경과 감정을 반영하여 내면의 파동을 깊이 있게 그려냈으며 셋째, 조명구도를 이용하여 은유적으로 주제를 드러나게 하였다. 결론 본 연구를 통해 빛에 의해 감지되는 대상이나 상황이 인간의 정서에 영향을 미치며 인위적으로 조작된 조명에 의해 영화 효과의 전달을 강화할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 관객들에게 영화 장면의 정서를 더 정확하게 전달하기 위해서 조명 디자인을 기반으로 작업의 정확한 해석을 개선하고 빛과 물체의 관찰을 개선하며 미디어 특성 및 조명 방법에 대한 이해를 향상 시켜 나가야 할 것이다. 또한 조명에 대한 철저한 준비와 신선하고 참신하며 전형적인 방법을 넘어 새로운 시도가 필요할 것이다.

모션그래픽에 나타난 메타포 표현 - 솔바스와 카일쿠퍼의 영화 오프닝 타이틀을 중심으로 -

연구배경 모션그래픽은 정보를 재설계하고 평면, 광고전파, 애니메이션, 영화 등 많은 분야에서 융합되어 활용되어 지고 있다. 특히 영상에 표현된 메타포는 정보 전달 수단이자 인지를 간소화하는 방법이다. 메타포 이론으로 영상을 분석하면 영화를 더 잘 해석하고 본질을 발굴해 규율을 탐구하는 데 도움이 된다. 연구방법 영화 오프닝타이틀의 대표적인 디자이너 솔바스(Saul Bass)와 카일 쿠퍼(Kyle Cooper)의 작품이 분석 대상이다. 방법은 영화 오프닝 타이틀의 구성요소와 모션그래픽의 조형요소로 구분하여 메타포의 유형별 특징을 근거로 메타포 언어와 이미지 분석을 통해 영화 오프닝의 시각적 이미지에 대한 메타포 표현을 분석한다. 연구결과 영화 오프닝 타이틀은 메타포를 활용하여 다소 무거운 주제와 답답한 배경을 결합하고 고도로 감정을 파고드는 표현으로 영화 속 은유적인 요소뿐만 아니라 내면의 열광적인 예술적 특성까지 드러내며 뛰어난 예술적 상상력과 표현력을 보여주었다. 결론 영화의 오프닝 타이틀은 모션그래픽의 표현으로 감각적 자극과 무한한 상상을 관객들에게 보여주었다. 또한 영화 오프닝 타이틀의 발전과 맥락을 맞추거나 보완하면서 음악, 문자, 메타포 등 디자인과 영화언어의 조합을 통해 보여주는 새로운 시각적 표현방식을 실감케 했다. 이에 본 연구는 모션그래픽의 발달에 대한 이론적 근거를 제공할 수 있고 미래 모션그래픽의 효율적인 발전 방향을 제시하고 궁극적으로 확장된 사고를 통하여 미래 정보 확산에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 연구가 되기를 기대한다. Background Motion graphics are being redesigned and used in many areas, including planar, advertising, animation, and film. Metaphor in particular expressed in images, is a means of information delivery and a method of simplifying recognition. Analyzing images with metaphor theory helps to better interpret movies and explore discipline by discovering the essence. Methods The works of leading designers Saul Bass and Kyle Cooper in the opening title of the films are always subjected to analysis. The method breaks down the components of the film opening title and the formative elements of motion graphics to analyze the metaphor representation of the film opening through the metaphor language and image analysis based on the type-specific characteristics of the metaphor. Result The opening title of the film combines a rather heavy theme with a stuffy background using metaphor, which reveals not only the metaphorical elements in the film but also the enthusiastic artistic characteristics, and shows the imagination and expression of this outstanding artistic. Conclusion The opening title of film is an expression of motion graphics, showing the audiences’ sensory stimulation and infinite imagination. It also shows a new way of visual expression through a combination of design and film language, such as music, text, and metaphor, while matching or complementing the development of the opening title. Therefore, this work provides a theoretical basis for the development of motion graphics. We hope to present efficient development directions for future motion graphics, and ultimately influence the future information diffusion through extended thinking.
