      • 大田地區의 環境放射能 調査 : 1964.9~1967.12 Sept. 1964- Dec. 1967

        This report, following the first one, shows the results of investigation for the Radiation Back ground and Radioactivity in Taejon Area (E. long. 127°25', N.lat. 36°18') of the rain-water, falling dust and air-borne dust during the period from Sept. 1964 to Dec. 1967. The radioactivity of the measured results are as following. 1. The annual mean values of radioactivity in the rain-water (2,960.2±82.2)×10^-9 μc/c.c (1964) (130.6±40.9)×10^-9 μc/c.c (1965) (34,172.6±203.7)×10^-9 μc/c.c (1966) (20.0±14.4)×10^-9 μc/c.c (1967) The maximum radioactivity of these years is (102,432±202.3)×10^-9 μc/c.c(Dec. 31, 1966 now), which is suppose to be the result of Red China's 5th Nuclear bomb test. (Dec. 28, 1966). 2. The annual mean values of radioactivity in the falling dust (1,717.6±58.9) pc/ft^2-10d (1964) (242.5±89.9) pc/ft^2-10d (1965) (1,133.1±104.1) pc/ft^2-10d (1966) (331.7±77.1) pc/ft^2-10d (1967) The maximum value during this period is (35,494.3±54.6) pc/ft^2-10days (Dec. 21, 1966)-Dec. 30. 1966), which is supposed to be the result of Red China's 5th nuclear bomb test. 3. The annual mean values of radioactivity in the air borne dust (4.58±0.44) pμc/c.c (1964) (1.64±0.53) pμc/c.c (1965) (6.72±1.93) pμc/c.c (1966) (5.74±1.65) pμc/c.c (1967) The maximum value during this period is (233.87±1.24) pμc/c.c (Dec. 32, 1966), which is supposed to be the result of Red China's 5th nuclear bomb test. The investigation shows that the radioactivity value of 1966, in which Red China had nuclear bomb test three times (3rd, 4th and 5th), is higher than that of 1964, 1965 or 1967. Especially, the radioactive value of the rain water of Oct. 20, 1964 shows 300 times -i.e. (16,327.4±71.7)×10^-9μc/c.c higher than that of the other days, and the radioactive value of the Rain water of Dec. 31, 1966 is (102,432±202.3)×10^-9μc/c.c which is 1,500 times higher than the ordinary ones. These results of temporary increase are directly caused by the Red China's first and fifth nuclear bomb test.

        This study concerns the Gamma-rap radiation in the radioactivities found in natural background and those in the air-born dust, the fall-out, the rain-out which had been measured in Dae-Jeon area during the period of three years from Jan. 1, 1974 to Dec. 31, 1976. The special survey survey results from the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st nuclear explosion tests carried out in Red China are included in this paper. The results of these measurements are as follows; 1. The average value of natural background radiation is 21. 20 pr/hr, and it is found that the natural background is not affected by the nuclear explosion tests. 2. The average value of radioactivity in the air-born dust is 0.12 pμci/cc, and the maximum value of radioactivity during the period is 8. 64 pμci/cc. 3. The average value of radioactivity of the fall-out is 0.3 mci/km-l0d, and the maximum value of radioactivity during the period is 5.41 mci/km-10d. 4. The average value of radioactivity in the rain out is 1.15 × l0^(-8)μci/cc, 2nd the maximum value of radioactivity during the period is 9.40 × l0μci/cc.

        The present paper is concerned with the mechanical properties and wear resistance of the cast iron nitrided at 650℃ for 6 hours which it(the cast iron) is used for cyinder materials. in the process of nitriding, we can to see that pearlite matrix- was more easily nitrided than as cast matrix and that the surface hardness of pearlite matrix brought about an increased from 370Hv. to 1080Hv. And the nitrided cast iron resulted in a decrease in its tensile strength and ax increase in the impact bending absorbed energy. The wear rate of the nitrided cast iron stood 6.67μg/㎠.Km, while that of non-nitrided cast iroa was checked up at surface pressure stood at 6.0μg/㎠.Km, when surface pressure stood at 4kg/㎠ and sliding speed was at 1m/Sec.

      • 大田地區의 農作物中의 Sr-90 分布 및 放射能 調査

        The present study deals with the Sr-90 concentrations and the gross beta activity levels in the crops of Hordeum Sativum Jessen(naked barley) and Oryza Sativa L. (rice Tongil) in Daejeon area. The measurements were made twice a month in the period of April 1975 through December 1975, and the separation of Sr-90 was practiced by the fuming nitric acid method. The observed levels of Sr-90 concentrations are 116.6 pci/gr-Ca in the leaves of barley, 33 pci/gr-Ca in the seeds of barley, 68.4 pci/gr-Ca in the leaves of rice and 30.3 pci/gr-Ca in the seeds of rice. These are well below the maximum permissible levels of Sr-SO concentration recommended by I. C. R. P. so that the concentration levels in Daejeon area may be considered to be reasonably safe.

        Systematic analysis on angular distribution of secondaries of forty-four(proton, neutron and alpha particle)jets, found in two large emulsion stacks of Texas and Braweley flown at high altitude by large balloons, (Nh≤3, 0.2×10 exp(12)eV≤Ep≤1.5×10 exp(13)eV in Texas stack ; Nh≤5, 0.6×10 exp(12)eV≤Ep≤6.3×10 exp(13)eV in Brawley stack) has been performed in terms of η(θ). To parameterize the experimental angular distributions, a from of funtion, f(t)=d/dt〔A exp (-a^2 t^2)〕 has been used, where t≡η(θ)-<η(θ)>. It has been found that there is a fairey good agrement between the observed and the theoretical distributions which were obtained by adjusting the two parameters A and a in the above function.

        This study concerns with gamma-ray exposure in natural background radiation and radioactivities in the air-borne dust, the fall-out, and the rain-out which had been which had been measured in Dae-Jeon area during the period of five years from Jan. 1, 1977 to Dec. 31, 1981. The special survey results from the 22th, 23th, and 24th nuclear explosion tests carried out by Red China are included in this paper. The results of these measurements are as follows: 1. The average value of natural background radiation in the laboratory 20.69μR/hr, and it is found that the natural background was not affected by the nuclear explosion tests. 2. The average value of radioactivity in the air-borne dust is 0.11pμci/cc, and the maximum value of radioactivity during the period in 0.47pμci/cc. 3. The average value of radioactivity of the fall-out is 0.09mci/㎢-10d, and the maximum value of radioactivity during the period is 0.84mci/㎢-10d. 4. The average value of radioactivity in the rain-out is 0.45×10^-8μci/cc, and the maximum value of radioactivity during the period is 1.97×10^-8μci/cc.

      • 核實驗으로 因한 大田地區의 環境放射能 變化에 關한 硏究

        In the present thesis measurements are made on the Gamma-ray radiation in the radioactivities found in natural background and those in the air-borne dust, the fall-out, the rain-out and the dining water sources of Dae-Jeon area (S. Lat. 36°18', E. long. 127°24') for the past 10 years (Jan. 1964 through Dec. 1973). Special attention is paid on the variation of environmental radiation and radioactivities caused by nuclear tests by measuring and analyzing the environmental radiation. During the period of the present investigation Red China performed nuclear explosion tests fifteen times. The results of the present investigation are as follows; (1) The average value of natural background radiation of Dae-Jeon area is 13±1.13mr/hr, and it is found that the natural background is not affected by the nuclear explosion tests. (2) The average value of radioactivity found in the air-borne dust is (0.80±0.06)pμci/cc. and the maximum value of radioactivity is (94,77±0.80) pμci/cc. It is considered to be caused by the fifth nuclear explosion test performed by Red China. (3) The average value of radioactivity in the fall-out is (1.73±0.11) mci/㎢-10d and the maximum value of radioactivity during the period of the investigation is found to de (236.95±46)mci/㎢-d and it is judged to be caused by the fifth nuclear explosion test by Red China. (4) The average value of radioactivity in the rain-out is found to be (31.25±l.36) x_10^(-8)cμi/cc, and the maximum value of radioactivity during the period of the present investigation is(10243.21±20. 23) x_10^(-8)μci/cc, and it is considered this vast incr ease is due to the fifth nuclear explosion test performed by Red China on December 28, 1966. (5) The average value of radioactivity in the dining water resources is found to be 10^(-8)~10^(-9)μci/cc, both before and after the nuclear explosion tests by Red China. We could not find the radioactive pollution above the level of the natural radioactivity detected in the normal water resources both on and under the surface of the earth in the dining water resources. Therefore, We have come to the conclusion that the water in the dining water resources is not contaminated by the nuclear explosion tests. (6) According to the above data obtained. we have found that the maximum permissible concentration(M. P. C. 10^(-7)μci/cc for water. 10^(-9)μci/cc for air) is not reached both in water and in air. On the other hand, the value of radioactivity for the rain-out is over the M. P. C. value which is due to the first, fifth and fifteenth nuclear tests of Red China.
