This study dealt with the comparison of lateral baring capacity for vertical PHC pile between predicted and measured values driven in weathered granite soils to build world cup gymnasium in Kwangju area. Recently, the calculation of horizontal bearing capacity of piles foundation has been considered very important for earthquake or wind resistant design in Korea. During this study, Matlock & Reese, Broms and Chang's methods were selected in prediction of lateral resistance of PHC piles. As for case study, the prediction values were compared with 5 measured ones based on ASTM. The result showed that prediction values proposed by Matlock & Reese, Chang and Broms were smaller than real values. Three proposed methods by Matlock & Reese and Chang based on lateral deflection and Broms by ultimate lateral resistance turned out valid in view of engineering practice.

This study analyzed unimplemented status of urban planning facilities building plans, focused on Jeonnam Province and searched for solutions for these problems. The remedial measures are as follows: Reform or remove unreasonable urban planning facilities. And in taking measures in the decision-making phase of building urban planning facilities, encourage residents to participate, impose scrutinizing functions for urban planning committee and commit urban planning to local, self-administration authorities. Also in taking measures in the implementation phase of the urban planning facilities business, secure tax sources such as city planning taxes, return revenue for development and local transfers closely related to the business and, in addition, use non-government capital investments for social infrastructure.

This study reviewed the efforts made by Dongmu-ri and Yeok-ri, Yeongam Town to expand the physical infrastructure that fully reflected the opinions of the residents and to reorganize the housing complex as a community-centric one to increase the residents` social and economic solidarity in the course of a project to improve the housing environment. The efforts to create and maintain a community-centric housing environment for community building should follow the directions of expanding the physical infrastructure around the housing environment and emphasizing the locality, community spirit, and organic nature of the community supported by the residents` voluntary participation. It is through those efforts that the housing environment of the community, which is the basis of urban space composition, can improve as a settlement system that`s physically pleasant and functionally efficient.

This paper dealt with FEM analysis of foundation improved with pack drain. The theory on pack drain was scrutinized and observed values in the field were compared with numerical results. Work site of Kwangyang container pier was selected as a case study in which measurement of settlement and pore water pressure was accurately carried out. Biot's consolidation equation was selected as governing one, coupled with modified Cam-clay model as constitutive one. Christian and Boehmer's numerical technique was adopted. Behavior of foundation with pack drain is not simple but very complicated. Discontinuity resulted from rigidity difference between adjacent materials, smear effect and complicated boundary conditions should be considered in the behavior analysis of foundation behavior. The results of numerical analysis were influenced by smear zone. In relevant to this effect, finite element analysis was carried out using the reduced horizontal coefficient of permeability in the smear zone. The numerical results were compared with observed values in surface settlement including pore water pressure. However only lateral di5plaoement by numerical ana1Ysis was shown since its measurement was not performed in the field. The predication of settlement to be developed later can be effectively employed for the obtimization of construction. The predication of residual settlement using the data measured in the field was made by Hoshino, Asaoka and hyperbolic method. Among them, the hyperbolic method proved best one. Settlements accorded well between nume-rical and observed values while pore pressure showed a slight difference. Lateral displacement showed largest values at constant distance from ground surface. The validation of foundation analysis improved with pack drain by computer program employed in this study selecting modified Cam-clay model was satisfactorily secured.
점성토지반에 축조한 제방의 변형추정 -고흥만 방수제 사례연구를 중심으로-

This paper aims at developing the prediction technique of the deformation for the embankment such as sea dike and shore protection relevant to reclamation project along the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula. Generally total deformation of a sea dike over clayey foundation are composed of immediate settlement, plastic deformation and consolidation settlement. Plastic deformation occurs when the ultimate bearing capacity is less than overburden pressure containing the stress increment due to the construction of an embankment. The reliable prediction of total settlement is very important since deformed final geometry of sea dike is directly connected for analysing the safety of the long-term slope failure and piping. During this study, plastic deformation, major part of deformation was analysed using the program developed by authors, whereas immediate settlement and consolidation settlement were predicted by Mochinaka and Sena's method and Terzaghi's 1-dimensional theory of consolidation respectively. In order to validate the prediction technique for the deformation, a case study of Koheung Bay reclamation works was carried out. A good agreement was obtained between observation and prediction, which means the applicability of the technique.
