This study was carried out to determine effects of long-term supply of Cordyceps militaris mycelia on cordycepin content in milk in dairy cows. Ten Holstein cows in the early stages of lactation were divided into two groups. Control group received no supplement whereas treatment group received 6% of C. militaris mycelia of their dry matter intake for 6 months. Feed intake, milk urea nitrogen and somatic cell counts were not affected by long-term supply of C. militaris mycelia for the whole period. In addition, milk yield and milk composition were not affected by long-term supply of C. militaris mycelia at any time of the periods with the exception of milk protein content and yield. The average of milk protein content and yield from the whole period was higher for C. militaris mycelia supplement group than for the control group. As expected, cordycepin in whole blood and milk was not detected in the control group. The range of cordycepin content in the treatment was 0.31~0.38µ/ml and 0.18~0.26(µ/ml for whole blood and milk, respectively. Individual variation was found to be very high and, furthermore cordycepin was undetected in some milk samples. Thus, no clear pattern could be seen in cordycepin content in milk throughout the whole period. Overall, the results of the present study suggest that the transfer efficiency of cordycepin to milk by supplementing C. militaris mycelia in dairy cows was unpredictable and low.

The present survey was conducted to investigate effects of weaning age on market weights of steers and calf mortality in Hanwoo. Eight hundred and sixty-two Hanwoo cow-calf operations from all nine provinces were surveyed via personal interviews. The number of farms categorized by herd (heifer plus cow) size were 188, 364, 227 and 83 for <20 heads, 20~49 heads, 50~99 heads and >100 heads, respectively. Approximate 40% of farms surveyed weaned calves at three months of age. The percentages of farms weaning calves over three months of age were 53.5%, 37.5%, 43.7% and 39.0% for <20 heads, 20~49 heads, 50~99 heads and >100 heads, respectively. The herd size did not affect market weights of Hanwoo steers. However weaning age was negatively correlated to carcass weight of Hanwoo steers, showing that as weaning age decreased, carcass weights of Hanwoo steers increased. The average calf mortality was 5.6% and the herd size did not affect calf mortality. But weaning age was shown to be positively correlated to calf mortality and the rate of diarrhea that caused calf death, suggesting that as weaning age decreased, calf mortality and the rate of diarrhea decreased. Overall, the results of present study suggest that a decrease of calf weaning age in Hanwoo can increase the profit of Hanwoo cow-calf operations by increasing carcass weight of Hanwoo steers and by decreasing calf mortality.

사료 내 아미노산의 부족이 하루 착유횟수를 2회에서 3회로 증가시킨 젖소의 유생산 반응에 미치는 영향

본 실험은 젖소의 사료 내 아미노산 중 His, Met, Lys의 부족이 하루 착유횟수를 2회에서 3회로 증가시킨 젖소의 유생산 반응에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 가를 조사하기 위하여 수행하였다. 젖소의 사료 내 His, Met, Lys의 부족을 위해서 조사료로서 그라스 사일리지를 이용하고 또한 농후사료에 이용되는 단백질원으로서 우모분만을 이용하였다. 비록 젖소의 대사에너지 섭취량이 유생산을 위한 요구량보다 훨씬 높았지만 사료 내 특정 아미노산의 부족은 하루 착유횟수를 2회에서 3회 증가시킨 젖소의 유량을 유의적으로 증가시키지 못하였다. 또한 한쪽 유구에만 3회 착유를 적용한 결과 2회 착유된 유구의 유단백질 및 유당의 분비를 감소시키는 것이 조사되었다. 결론적으로 본 실험의 결과는 특정 아미노산이 제한된 사료조건에서 젖소의 하루 착유횟수를 2회에서 3회로 증가시키는 것은 유생산 반응을 변화시킬 수 있을 정도의 유량 촉진방법이 아님을 제시하였다.

Background: Effective chest compression may improve the return of spontaneous circulation and neurologic outcome in arrest victims. For fear of rescuer’s fatigue, guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) recommended that chest compression (CC) should be switched every 2 minutes, but there is little evidence. We investigated whether health personnel could provide consistent quality of CC for 2 minutes. Methods: We recruited prospectively health personnel working on one university hospital. On the day assigned randomly, CPR performance data was collected with use of CPR recording technology. Quality of CPR was calculated every 30 seconds interval. To identify the quality decay, we used repeated measure analysis of variance with SPSS 17.0 for analysis. Results: We analyzed 8,485 CCs performed by 41 subjects. Total number of CC decayed between 90 to 120 seconds (51.6 ± 3.3 to 50.8 ± 3.5, p = 0.020) within recommended range. The ratio of correct depth CC decayed between 90 to 120 seconds, falling from 83.4 ± 24.9% to 68.3 ± 38.4% (p = 0.002). The ratio of low depth CC increased significantly over time (10.2 ± 20.7% to 31.3 ± 38.5%, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Health personnel may provide adequate number of CC for 2 minutes. But, the number of correct depth CC may decay between 90 to 120 seconds. Also the number of low depth CC may increase over time.

The present survey was conducted to provide basic information on Hanwoo calf weaning age and farmer`s understanding of early weaning. Eight hundred and sixty-two Hanwoo breeding farms from all nine provinces were surveyed via personal interviews. The percentages of farms categorized by herd size were 30.5%, 32.8%, 26.0% and 10.7% for <50 heads, 51~100 heads, 101~200 heads and >200 heads, respectively. The percentage of farms weaning calves at three months of age were 39.2% and 12% of farms weaned calves less than two months of age. But the percentage of farms weaning at or over four months of age were still high, being 16.1% at four months of age and 16.6% over five months of age, respectively. The result of the present study showed that calf weaning age in Hanwoo was inconsistent and higher percentage of farms wean calves at three months of age among the surveyed farms. The improvement of cow reproductive performance was answered as the biggest merit of early weaning.

This study was conducted to investigate the productivity of Hanwoo steers by feeding self-product organic rice straw and concentrates(conventional, T1 and organic T2). Sixteen Hanwoo steers(8 months on the average) were randomly assigned to two treatment groups. Feeding trail was carried out in 2 treatment(8 heads/ treatment) by Hanwoo steers for 600 days form 8 to 28 months in age. The range of average daily gains of T1 and T2 were 0.76 to 0.77㎏ in the growing stage, 0.93 to 0.90㎏ in the first fattening stage, 0.99 to 0.84㎏ in the middle fattening stage, and 0.59 to 0.64㎏ in the latter fattening, respectively, and the gains for overall period was higher in T1 than in T2. Concentrates and total digestive nutrients(TDN)(T1) intakes per unit of kg gains were higher than T2 without significant difference. In carcass characteristics, the carcass weight in T1 were higher about 5% than in T2. According to the above results, it may be concluded that dry matter(DM) intakes, crude protein(CP) and TDN contents of feedstuff between treatments was no significant difference. but marbling in T2 score was higher than in T1 about 20%. There were no significant differences rib-eye area, back fat thickness and fat color(p>0.05).

본 연구는 monosodium glutamate의 생산 후 발생되는 부산물인 condensed molasses solubles(CMS)가 반추가축의 질소 공급원으로서 반추의 미생물 단백질 합성에 미치는 효과를 조사하기 위하여 수행하였다. 반추위 canulae가 부착된 4마리의 비착유소를 4×4 라틴 방각법에 적용하여 실험을 수행하였으며, 4개의 처리구는 다음과 같다. (1) 기초사료(앞착된 보리 3kg/일과 보리짚의 자유채식), (2) 기초사료에 당밀 200g/일 그리고 물 300g/일 첨가, (3) 기초사료에 당밀 200g/일, CMS 100g/일 그리고 물 200g/일 첨가 (4) 기초 사료에 당밀 200g/일, CMS 200g/일, 그리고 물 100g/일 첨가. CMS의 첨가수준에 따른 반추위내 발효양상은 처리구간에 유의적인 차이가 없었으나, CMS를 200g/을 첨가한 처리구가 다른 처리구들에 비해 반 추위내 미생물 단백질 합성량의 표시로서 이용된 allantoin/creatinine의 비율을 증가시키는 경향이 나타났다.(p <0.10)
