「아탁시아」에 나타난 안무방법과 디지털 테크놀러지와 공동 작업에 관한 연구

This study is designed for the utilization of technology in dance. The combination of science and technology overcomes the limitation of material aspects such as lighting effect, stage design, music, and dancer`s use of dance space. It appears as an important issue for choreographers. The variety of technology in the 2000s has contributed to the creative development of dance composition utilizing technology. They include image technique, virtual reality, motion picture capture system, computer graphic, digital audio, and interactive media. The combination of digital technology and dance has been an essential matter in creating dance. It emphasizes the academic value of dance. Wayne McGregor has formed new choreographic styles with experimental spirits. His challenge suggested new directions of dance, out of the constraints of art in the establishment of his own choreographic world. It is greatly important to contemporary dancers and choreographers in terms of suggesting various possibilities and directions of choreography. Dance can be expressed with diversified choreographic methods in the rapid change of the world.

Dance can be expressed with diversified choreographic methods in the rapid change of the world. 본 연구는 현시대의 무용공연들과는 차별화된 테크놀러지를 활용한 무작위성을 실험하는 안무가 웨인 맥그리거의 디지털 테크놀러지 활용방식을 알아보고자 한다. 「아탁시아」는 2005년 서울세계무용축제 내한공연을 통해 작품을 선보였는데 신체의 신경망을 디지털 신호로 통제함으로써 무의식 상태에서 발휘되는 새로운 신체의 적응과 동작을 안무로 연결시킨 공연이었다. 「아탁시아」는 운동장애라는 의미를 가지고 있다. 이 작품은 인지 과학 분야에서 창의력 사이의 연결, 안무 및 움직임과 마음의 과학적 연구를 추구하며 안무가와 무용수 그리고 심리학자와 과학 연구자들이 직접 참여하는 공동 연구 프로젝트이다. 웨인 맥그리거는 내한공연 당시 안무가와 대화의 시간에서 디지털 기술이 신체에 보이지 않는 영역에 새로운 관점을 가져다 줄 것으로 판단하면서 충분히 신체 표현예술에서 창의적으로 사용될 수 있다고 이야기하였다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구는 그의 작품 「아탁시아」를 선정하여 안무방법 분석을 통해 어떻게 몸의 움직임을 연결, 또는 해체하고 어떠한 디지털 테크놀러지를 활용하여 어떤 분야와 공동 작업이 이루어 졌는지 알아보고자 한다. 또한 「아탁시아」의 연구를 통해 안무방법의 정형화된 틀에서 벗어나 자신만의 독특한 세계를 표현하고 새로운 매체의 도입을 유도하고 다양한 테크놀러지를 접목 시키는데에 초점을 맞추며 안무가들은 무대 위에서 테크놀러지의 활용 뿐 아니라 안무과정에서 과학기술을 활용함에 있어 정확하고 올바른 이해가 필요하다고 사료된다. 본 연구에서는 아래 세 가지의 연구 문제를 설정하고 해결하고자 웨인 맥그리거의 「아탁시아」를 선정하고 분석하였다. 첫 번째,「아탁시아」의 디지털 테크놀러지의 활용은 다른 무용작품에서 나타난 디지털 테크놀러지의 활용과는 어떠한 차이를 보이는가?두 번째,「아탁시아」를 안무하기 위하여 웨인 맥그리거와 무용수는 어떠한 공동 작업을 하였는가?세 번째,「아탁시아」에 나타난 디지털 테크놀러지의 활용 범위가 어디까지인가?
