The objective of this study was to develop a new mixing element and to perform the experimental
investigation of flow and mixing in a static mixer that could equipped the new element and the others.
Glycerin, hydraulic oil and gear oil were used as mixing fluids. Pressure drops across the static mixer
elements of different designs and different numbers were measured using a hydraulic manometer. The axial
and cross-sectional views of tracer mixing were photographed using a digital camera. The pressure drops of
SSM mixer were about 20% less than that of Sulzer mixer whereas the mixing performance of SSM mixer
was not so good as that of Sulzer mixer.

The objective of this study is to perform the numerical investigation of flow characteristics in static mixers. Simulations are carried out for mixers consisting of up to six Kenics and PPM elements placed end-to-end at an angle of 90°and for a range of Reynolds number(1≤ Re ≤100). The pressure drop across a six-element Kenics mixer is computed and compared with the previous experimental correlations. The results are in good agreement with the previous correlations. The simulated flow field of Kenics mixer is extremely complex and contains regions of transverse flow that is dominated by the interaction of vortices produced by the mixer elements.

Heat transfer augmentation based on the process intensification concept in heat exchangers and thermal reactors has received much attention in recent years, mainly due to energy efficiency and environmental considerations. The concept consists of the development of novel apparatuses and techniques that, compared to those commonly used today, are expected to bring dramatic improvements in manufacturing and processing, substantially decreasing equipment size, energy consumption, and ultimately resulting in cheaper, sustainable technologies. The objective of this paper was to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of tubular thermal reactor using static mixing technology. Glycerin and water were used as the test fluids and water was used as the heating source. The results for heat transfer rate were strongly influenced by tube geometry and flow conditions.

This study aimed to experimentally investigate the entrainment and jet behavior in a submerged, horizontal, two-phase flow using a central driven air-water ejector. The entrainment ratio and discharge coefficient were calculated with the primary nozzle area ratio, and the quantitative behaviour of submerged horizontal jet was analyzed by measuring the stream-wise velocity in a two-phase jet tank. It was found that as the primary nozzle area ratio increased the entrainment ratio decreased and the discharge coefficient increased slightly. As the primary nozzle area ratio and the primary nozzle exit velocity decreased the mixed jet exhibited buoyancy jet behavior except in the vicinity of diffuser exit. Also, as the primary nozzle area ratio and primary nozzle exit velocity increased the transfer distance from a horizontal jet to a buoyancy jet and the stream-wise velocity near the jet centerline increased.

The objectives of this research are to develop new mixing element for high viscosity fluids and to perform the experimental investigation of pressure drop and mixing efficiency in order to provide the quantitative information for optimum design of industrial static mixer. The results could be contribute to improve the understanding of the physical mechanism of mixing process, to have the technical know-how for optimum design and manufacture of static mixer and to raise the production rate and competitiveness of related industries.

Static mixers have found a large range of applications, including blending, reaction, dispersion, heat
transfer and mass transfer. All static mixers have in common a straight pipe or transfer tube into which
individual elements are inserted to cut, fold, twist and re-combine the mixing fluid. The operations virtually
ensure uniformity in composition, concentration, viscosity and temperature. The objective of this study is to
perform the experimental investigations of mixing characteristics for three mixing element types. The
resulting mixing patterns were recorded with a digital camera. OPTIMAS was used to analysis the visualized
images. The results clearly indicated that the mixing characteristics was highly influenced by the mixer types
or mixing mode.

The objective of this paper was to investigate the oxygen transfer rate of a diffused aeration system, which composed of an ejector, a blower, a motor-pump, an aeration tank and a control panel. A series of unsteadystate aeration tests in tap water were conducted at varying water flow rates, diffused-air flow rates, water temperatures and salinities. The dissolved oxygen concentrations increased with the water flow rate and diffused-air flow rate, but decreased with the water temperature and salinity.
