Fibrous dysplasia is a condition characterized by the replacement of the medullary component of predominantly long bone with fibrous tissues. The monostotic form of the fibrous dysplasia occurs more frequent than the polyostotic form. Only the twenty three previous cases of vertebral involvement in monostotic fibrous dysplasia have been reported. Authors experienced a case of monostotic fibrous dysplasia of the third lumbar vertebra, so we report this case. Report details the diagnosis and treatment of a 34 years old man with back pain from monostotic fibrous dysplasia of the third lumbar vertebra. We discuss the experience in the consideration of previous report to recommend the optimal management of this disease.

성인에서 발생한 단순성 골 낭종에 대한 스테로이드 주입의 효과

Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of steroid injection for treatment of simple bone cyst in adults. Materials and Methods: 11 patients who were able to be followed up from February 1998 to February 2003. These lesions were attained by needle aspiration or trepanation and 80 mg to 200 mg of Depo-medrol (methylprednisolone acetate, Shin Poong Pharm. Co., Korea) was injected. The follow-up roentgenograms were done every 2 weeks, and if there were no evidence of recovery, re-injection was done 8 weeks later. Injection has done maximally 5 times, and we evaluated the result with modified Neer, Pentimalli, Scaglietti and Sandra classification. Results: There were no cases in which one Injection was enough for full recovery, and 3 cases after 2 injections, 3 cases after 3 injections, 2 case after 5 injections had good result. but 2 cases after more than 5 injections did not show improvements and are currently under observation. One case showed a increase in size of the bone cyst after 2 injections of steroid and underwent curettage and autogenous bone graft. Overall outcomes by Pentimalli classification were good in One case, fair in 7 cases and poor in 3 cases at final follow-up. Conclusion: Local injection of steroids is effective method in adults and can be considered as a first line treatment modality.

하지 관절 부위에 발생한 전이성 종양 환자의 종양 대치물 및 골시멘트와 인공관절 삽입술

Purpose: In this report we are going to discuss about the functional evaluation and the outcome of treatment of metastatic tumor in the lower extremities treated with tumor prosthetic arthroplasty. Materials and Methods: This report is based on nine patients diagnosed as a metastatic tumor and treated by tumor prosthetic arthroplasty, from June 1998 to December 2001. Age of the patients ranged from 49 to 63 with the average of 56.3. The average follow up period was 23.4 months. Two patients had lung cancer, three had breast cancer, two had renal cancer, one colon cancer, and one had multiple myeloma. All these were primary cancers. The site of metastasis were six in proximal femur, two in distal femur, and one in proximal tibia. Tumor excision was performed after biopsy in following the principle of primary tumor management. Excision with wide surgical margin was tried as possible could. Six cases were treated with tumor prosthesis, and the other three cases were reconstructed with bone cement and arthroplasty. Results: The functional evaluation in the extremities at the last follow up was performed on Enneking evaluation score with 6 categories. The highest scored 26, and the lowest scored 10, with an average of 19.5. A case in which the patient died 15 days after the operation was excluded from the evaluation. Among the categories, emotional acceptance to postoperative function and pain relief were highly scored. At the final follow up, seven patients survived, and one colon cancer patient died 68 days after operation. Conclusion: Metastatic tumor occurring in joints of lower extremities could be treated in accordance to the treatment principle of primary tumor. By insertion of tumor prosthesis, we can get satisfactory results of function in the lower extremity and pain relief especially. So, this aspect of medical favor must be considered in treating patients.

Studies on the lattice girder of the cross sectional form and construction works through laboratory experiments have been performed. The numerical analysis for structural behavior such as deflection and stresses on the lattice girder, however, are insufficient. In this study the stiffness of a lattice girder was examined by using MIDAS.

The purpose of this study is to define the relationship between characteristics and sports additions of marathon club members, enable them to participate in right, helpful daily sports activity, let them know they can give positive effects to life and improve real life qualities and provide basic data for forming right exercise habit of daily sportsman in order to improve general life level of individual and improve and activate welfares of people. For the purpose, questionnaire was performed through convenience sampling method for 300 participants of more than 20 years old, who participated in 2010 Busan Marathon. Among them, 269 persons were adopted for actual data analysis. For data processing method, SPSS 18.0 Version was used to perform reliability analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The significance levels of all statistic values were α=.05. The study results through empirical analysis are as follows. First, it was found that the characteristics of marathon club members(nerve, sincerity, extroversion, openness, good feeling) gave positive effects to the sub factor of sports addiction, withdrawal symptom. Second, it was found that the characteristics of marathon club members (sincerity, extroversion, openness) gave positive effects to the sub factor of sports addiction, sports desire. Third, it was found that the characteristics of marathon club members (sincerity, extroversion, openness, good feeling) gave positive effects to the sub factor of sports addiction, emotional attachment.
