Piping systems comprising pumps and valves are essential in the power plant, oil, and defense industry. Their purpose includes a stable supply of the working fluid or ensuring the target system's safe operation. However, piping system accidents due to leakage of toxic substances, explosions, and natural disasters are prevalent In addition, with the limited maintenance personnel, it becomes difficult to detect, isolate, and reconfigure the damage of the piping system and recover the unaffected area. An autonomous recovery piping system can play a vital role under such circumstances. The autonomous recovery algorithms for the piping system can be divided into low-pressure control algorithms, hydraulic resistance control algorithms, and flow inventory control algorithms. All three methods include autonomous opening/closing logic to isolate damaged areas and recovery the unaffected area of piping systems. However, because each algorithm has its strength and weakness, appropriate application considering the overall design, vital components, and operating conditions is crucial. In this regard, preliminary research on algorithm's working principle, its design procedures, and expected damage scenarios should be accomplished. This study examines the characteristics of algorithms, the design procedure, and working logic. Advantages and disadvantages are also analyzed through simulation results for a simplified piping system.

In various industrial sites, piping systems play an essential role in stable fluid supply and pressure maintenance. However, these systems are constantly exposed to risks of earthquakes, explosions, fires, and leaks, which can result in casualties or serious economic losses. With rapid advancements in the industry, different-sized piping systems have been launched; however, there are not enough maintenance personnel for troubleshooting and responding to situations where damages occur to piping systems. This increases the need for introducing autonomous damage management systems. In this study, a lab-based piping system was designed and manufactured by referring to the piping system of a naval ship to analyze the effectiveness of autonomous damage management systems. By using this testbed, a representative algorithm, the hydraulic resistance control algorithm, was realized and examinedIn addition, the difference between the averaged pressure and normalized pressure was introduced to improve the performance of the existing algorithm, which faces some limitations with regard to sensor noise and back pressure from the rupture-simulated pipeline part.
간경병 환자에 발생한 Excherichia coli에 의한 화농성 슬관절염 1예

그람음성균에 의한 화농성 관절염은 HIV 감염이나 관절 치환술에 의한 감염의 증가로 점점 그 빈도가 증가되고 있으며 그중 가장 흔한 균은 Escherichia coli(E. coli)이다. E, coli는 요로 감염으로 혈행을 통해 관절로 침투하거나, 관절 천자에 의한 직접 주입에 의해 발생한다. 치료는 배양 검사에 따른 적절한 항생제의 투여와, 반복적인 관절 천자를 시행하여 배농을 하여야 하며, 잘 호전되지 않는 경우엔 관절 내시경을 시행하거나 수술을 하여 배농 및 세척을 실시한다. 하지만 치료의 발전에도 불구하고 그람음성균에 의한 관절염의 예후는 나아지지 않고 있다. 저자들은 간 경화가 있는 55세 여자 환자가 우측 슬관절 동통과 종창을 주소로 입원하여 E. coli에 의한 화농성 관절염으로 진단된 1예를 체험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고한다. Gram-negative bacilli induced arthritis is uncommon except the arthritides in drug addicts, who seem predisposed to pseudomonas joint infection. Gram-negative bacilli haute emerged as an important cause of septic arthritis. The important risk factors of septic arthritis are prior prosthetic joint replacement, increased nosocomial infections, chronic debilitating diseases like HIV infection. Escherichia coli(E. coli) is one of the most commonly isolated Gram-negative bacteria and leading cause of nosocomial infections. The arthritis caused by E.coli develops as a consequence of hematogenous spread of bacteria from remote foci such as skin infection or urinary tract infection. Treatment of septic arthritis includes appropriate antibiotics and joint drainage such as arthroscopic lavege or tidal irrigation. Despite of the improvement of the treatment regimens, the prognosis of septic arthritis has not improved significantly over the past 20 years. A 55-year-old female patient with liver cirrhosis was admitted to Department of Internal Medicine, Seoul Paik Hospital because of painful swelling of right knee and fever. Escherichia coli was found in the bacterial cultures of the blood, urine and synovial fluid. She was recovers from her arthritis after treatment wish cefotaxime, ciprofloxacin, and repeated aspirations of right knee.
Pasteurella hemolytica에 의한 농흉 1예

Pasteurellae are aerobicgram-negative coccobacillary organism and usually pathogenic to domestic animal but occasionally happens without known history of animal contacts. Pasteurella infection of human has been reported in numerous systems including pneumonia, empyema, meningitis, peritonitis, bone and joint infection and septicemia. This organism was difficult to identify because of its superficial resemblance to other organism, until recently a new technique used a requirement of X, V factor is developed. This organism is susceptible to many antimicrobial agents. A 55-year-old man was admitted to Seoul Paik Hospital Inje University Due to fever and pleuritic chest pain for 2 weeks. He denied any animal contact history. Pasteurella hemolytica was recovered from pleural effusion. This is the first case report of empyema caused by Pasteurella hemolytica in Korea and provides another definitive causative organism of empyema.
범뇌하수체 기능 저하 및 중심성 뇨붕증을 합병한 출혈열 신증후군 1예

Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome(HFRS) is an acute illness that most patients are recovered after its clinical course of febrile, hypotensive, oligu- ric, diuretic and convalescence phase but is known to result in rare sequale on recovery. There are a few reports on anterior pituitary dysfunction associated with central diabetes insipidus simultaneously as a sequale of HFRS. We experienced panhypopituitarism and central diabetes insipidus developed in a 37-year-old male patient who had recovered from hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome confirmed by high titers of antibody against Hantaan virus. Combined anterior pituitary function tests showed no response in all anterior pituitary hormones. Central diabetes insipidus was confirmed by water deprivation test and serum pitressin level. Sellar CT showed atropy in pituitary gland. In conclusion, prompt differential diagnosis, and proper management for the diabetes insipidus should be considered in patients who have unusal diuresis and long period of diuretic phase.

Amyloid arthropathies in patients with multiple myeloma have been reported rarely in the world. In Korea, only one case of amyloid arthropathy with multiple myeloma was reported, but there had been no report of multiple myeloma which was initially manifested as a polyarthritis simulating rheumatoid arthritis. We report a case of multiple myeloma with amyloid arthropathy. The patient was 62 years old man, who had had progressive bilateral shoulder pain for one year. Since 6 months prior to admission, progressive painful swelling developed in bilateral hips, shoulders, wrists and hands. Simple X-rays and MRI of shoulders and hips showed huge osteolytic mass, and the amyloid was found in the biopsy of the mass in hip. The diagnosis of multiple myeloma was made after bone marrow biopsy and biochemical studies, but X-rays of skeletal survey didn`t show typical osteolytic lesions of multiple myeloma at the time of diagnosis.
