Synergistic Effects of 5-Fluorouracil (FU) and Curcumin on Human Cervical Cancer Cells

암은 전 세계적으로 사망률이 높은 질병으로 현재 자궁암 치료는 cisplatin, 5-fluorouracil (5FU) 등의 항암화학요법과 방사선 요법 등을 복합적으로 병행하고 있다. 최근 항암효과를 가지고 있는 자연식품의 섭취에 관심이 커지면서 커리의 주성분인 curcumin (CMN), 녹차의 주성분인 카테킨, 토마토의 주성분인 리코펜 등의 약리효과에 대한 연구가 활성화되고 있다. CMN은 동물실험 결과 항염증의 활성이 있고, 피부, 대장, 유방, 전립선 등에서 암으로의 진행을 억제한다는 보고가 있으나 인체 자궁암에서는 그 효과가 밝혀져 있지않다. 본 연구는 항암제 5FU와 CMN이 인체 자궁암세포 HeLa에 미치는 영향을 apoptosis의 유도로 평가하고, p53유전자 발현율과의 상관관계로 확인하고자 시행하였다. CMN은 HeLa 세포의 성장을 억제하였으며, 5FU로 유도된 apoptosis의 발생률과 p53유전자의 발현률을 현저하게 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다(p<0.05). 이러한 연구결과는 CMN이 자궁암 치료제의 가능성이 있으며, 또한 5FU와 복합적으로 사용하면 항암제를 단독으로 투여하는 경우보다 자궁암 치료에 보다 효과적임을 강력히 시사하는 것이다. Cervical cancer is associated with low antioxidant status. It has a high prevalence especially amongst woman in Asia and is a leading cause of cancer death. Cancer chemotherapy in vivo improved in cases with high p53 expression in the tumor tissue. The restoration of p53 levels could be a potential strategy to increase chemoresponsiveness. Under circumstances where damage is extensive, p53 plays a direct role in trigering apoptosis. To investigate the effect of curcumin (CMN) as an antioxidant agent on anticancer agent 5-fluorouracil (5FU) induced apoptosis and p53 expression, HPV-18 positive HeLa cells were treated with noncytotoxic amounts of antioxidant. Curcumin induced apoptosis in cervical cancer cells. Morphological hallmarks of apoptosis such as nuclear fragmentation and internucleosomal fragmentation of DNA were observed. CMN caused upregulation of p53 expression, evident from Western blotting data and also increased the susceptibility/apoptosis induced by 5FU. These results show that increasing drug sensitivity of cervical cancer cells by upregulation of p53 using CMN is novel approach and could have a possible therapeutic potential in cervical cancer.

An experiment was conducted to study the effects of sources and levels of dietary Zn on the performance of the weanling pigs. Twenty four, 12 in each sex, 5 wks old 3-way crossbred (Y × L × D) pigs were assigned to 4 treatments of a 2 × 2 factorial design (Zn source × level). Zn sources were ZnO or methionine-Zn chelate (Met-Zn) and supplemental levels of Zn were 100 or 200ppm. Two pigs of each sex were housed in the raised floor pen and 3 pens were assigned to each treatment. Individual pig weight and feed intake of each pen were recorded weekly for 5 wks. Average daily feed intakes (ADFI) and average daily gains (ADG) were significantly (P$lt;0.01) different among treatments. ADFI and ADG were highest in Met-Zn-200 followed by ZnO-200, Met-Zn-100 and ZnO-100. The effects of supplemental Zn sources and levels and their interaction on ADFI were not significant. The effect of supplemental Zn level on ADG was significant (P$lt;0.05), but those of supplemental Zn source and interaction were not significant. There were no significant differences in feed conversion ratio and alkaline phosphatase activity in serum among treatments. IgG concentrations in serum were significantly (P$lt;0.05) influenced by the source, Met-Zn treatments being higher than ZnO treatments. The effects of level and interaction were not significant on serum IgG, however. The levels of Zn in serum were significantly (P$lt;0.01) different among treatments. Met-Zn-200 showed the highest level followed by ZnO-200, Met-Zn-100 and ZnO-100 in serum Zn level. The effects of source and level of supplemental Zn were significant (P$lt;0.01) on serum Zn. The levels of Zn in the feces were significantly (P$lt;0.01) affected by the level of supplemental Zn. The levels of Fe and Cu in serum and feces were not significantly affected by treatments. In conclusion, the source and level of supplemental Zn influence the performance of weanling pigs. Zn availability from Met-Zn is higher than that from ZnO. High serum IgG in Met-Zn treatments indicates improvement in the immune function. These may affect the performance of weanling pigs.

In this paper, a reliability-based design optimization is developed for the topology design of linear structures using a performance measure approach. Spatial domain is discretized using three dimensional Reissner-Mindlin plate elements and design variable is taken as the material property of each element. A continuum based adjoint variable method is employed for the efficient computation of sensitivity with respect to the design and random variables. The performance measure approach of RBDO is employed to evaluate the probabilistic constraints. The topology optimizationproblem is formulated to have probabilistic displacement constraints. The uncertainties such as material property and external loads are considered. Numerical examples show that the developed topology optimization method could effectively yield a reliable design, comparing with the other methods such as deterministic, safety factor, and worst case approaches. 본 논문에서는 선형 구조물에 대해 성능함수법을 이용하여 신뢰성기반 위상 최적설계 기법을 개발하였다. 구조물을 라이즈너-민들린(Ressiner-Mindlin) 판 요소로 분할하였으며, 각 요소의 재료 물성치를 설계변수로 사용하였다. 설계변수와 임의변수의 효율적인 설계민감도를 구하기 위하여 연속체 역학에 기초한 해석기법 중 보조변수법(Adjont variable method)을 사용하였다. 또한 확률론적 제약조건을 평가하기 위해서 성능함수법(Performance measure approach)을 사용하였으며 변위 제약조건을 두어 위상 최적설계 문제를 구성하였다. 이 때 재료 물성치와 하중을 불확실 변수로 고려하였으며 수치적 예제를 통하여 본 논문에서 제안한 최적설계 방법론을 기존의 결정론적 방법, 안전계수법(Safety factor approach), 최악조건법(Worst case approach) 등과 비교하여 그 타당성을 검증하였다.
OSEK/VDX 기반의 차량 전장용 응용개발도구 설계 및 구현

This paper describes the development tool for applications of automotive electronic control unit based on OSEK/VDX. This development tool has a plug-in structure and is written in Java language, because of being based on Eclipse CDT. And also this development tool has another functionality of expansion, which means a special function block can be easily adopted in this development tool. Currently, this development tool consists of five blocks, which are integrated development environment block, fusing program block, system generation block, debugger block, and cross-compiler toolchain block. They have relationship between each other and work for developing OSEK/VDX-based applications. In this paper, we show the functionality of each block of this development tool and its implementation.

How should English syntax be taught in college so that it can help students build up creativity? This paper suggests one way on the basis of an action research into the English Syntax course that the author taught in 2009 utilizing (i) challenging lectures, (ii) student reflective essay writing and (iii) classroom discussions of the data, hypotheses, and questions that students presented in their reflective essays. Analyzing the lecture notes, 74 student essays, and instructor response texts, among others, the author (i) presents examples of classes that could have fostered student creativity, (ii) presents cases illustrating the different extents of students creative thinking processes, (iii) shows how his feedback methods have improved and how he recognized student contributions, and (iv) lastly reflects on what he has learned about the course and students, and lastly suggests points to improve an English syntax course so that it may better foster students scientific creativity.

구사회주의 체제에서 탈피한 후 불가리아는 다른 동구권국가들과 마찬가지로 민주주의와 민주화, 시민사회, 인권, 경제민주주의, 시장경제를 적극 추진하면서 동구권국가들과 상호 보완적이고 협력적인 관계를 추진하고있다. 그리고 UN(United Nation), OECD(Organization Economic Cooperation Development), EU(European Union), WTO(World Trade Organization) 등에서 새로운 협력과 민주화실천의 경험을 갖추고 있는 다른 동구권국가들과 서방 선진국들이 불가리아에 대하여 민주주의를 잘 실천할 수 있도록 지원한다면 앞날의 전망은 매우 희망적이고 낙관적라고 볼 수 있다. 지난번NATO 19개국정상들이2002년11월22일프라하에서발틱3국, 슬로바키아, 슬로베니아, 루마니아, 불가리아 등 7개국을 2004년 가입예정국으로 발표한 것도 불가리아에게는 매우 고무적인 일이다. 사실상 미국과 서유럽국가들은 물론 한편으로 NATO의 확장과 영향력확대를 희망해왔다. 불가리아도그동안NATO가입을적극추진하여왔는데94년2월에는 평화를 위한 동반자관계(PfP)에 서명하고, NATO 기준에 따른 군개혁 및 NATO 와의 고위급 정치대화를 강화하였다. 전시에는 NATO군 보호에 전적으로 의지하며 NATO군의 해외작전에 참여한다는 내용의 군사정책 선언안을 채택하는 등 조속한 NATO나토 가입 심의를 위한 노력을 전개했었다. 또한 불가리아는 기본적으로 발칸 역내국간 배타적 동맹결성에 반대하고 선린 우호관계를 추구하며, 최근 역내국간 정치․안보협력 증진을 위한 남․동유럽국방장관 회의 및 외무장관 회의 등에 적극 참여 하고 있으며, 코소보 사태를 계기로 99년 8월 창설한 발칸지역 다국적 평화유지군에서도 주도적 역할을 하였다. 다른한편EU의경우는발틱3국, 폴란드, 체코, 헝가리, 슬로베니아, 슬로바키아 국가가 2004년 가입하게 되었으나 불가리아는 탈락하였다. 그동안 헝가리, 체코, 폴란드 등 동구권국가들은 EU정회원 가입을 위하여 ① 제반여건 충족, ② 상품의 EU시장 접근조건 개선,③ 경제개발에 필요한 자원획득 조건의 개선,④ 농업과 신규산업을 위한 시장보호, ⑤ EU준회원국 협정이행속도완화등의노력을기우려왔다. 그동안불가리아도서유럽국가와의 통합을 위하여 EU가입 등을 주요 외교정책 목표로 설정하여왔다. EU는 인권의 존중과 민주주의정치체제의 구현을 가입조건으로 명문화하였고 불가리아도 이를 극복하면서 EU가입을 희망하여온 거이 사실이다. 사실상 불가리아의 시장자본주의도입을 위해서는 EU가입이 중요하고 이를 위해서는 기가입한 동구권국가들의 협력과 교훈이 무엇보다도 중요하다고 본다. EU 확대일정이순조롭게진행될경우2007년에는루마니아와불가리아가회원국이 될 수 있다고 본다. 따라서불가리아가EU가입을위해서는NATO 회원국가들은물론동구권 국가들과의 상호협력증대가 무엇보다 중요하다. CEFTA, 비세그라드 (Visegrad)체제, 중구협력구상(CEI)등 불가리아가 참여하지 않고 있는 역내기구의회원국들과 적극적인협력관계를 추진해야한다. 그리고불가리아가 참여하고 있는 흑해경제협력기구(BSEC)를 적극 활용하여 수송, 에너지. 통신, 농업, 금융 및 환경협력 강화를 주도해야할 것이다. 불가리아의 EU가입을위해서우선정치․경제적처지가비슷한동구권국가들과의단합과협력이무엇보다중요하다. 불가리아가이미NATO에가입하였고그리고앞으로 EU가입을 추진하면서 외교, 정보, 통상, 군사안보 측면에서 국익을 취함과 동시에 동구권과의 협력관계를 더욱더 강화할 때 불가리아는 대외관계와 세계화전략이 한층 더 성공적으로 추진될 것이다. The main theme of this paper is to review the broad relationship between Bulgaria and Central-East European Countries(CEECs), focusing on political and economic relationship. I am going to discuss the new millennium vision and prospects of the relationship between Bulgaria and CEECs. Actually, CEECs have not only experienced economic reform even under the communist rule but also tried systemic change after the collapse of the communist regime. CEECs are important to Western European Countries(WECs) for the west european market. Their relationship has been closer and closer. The market share of EU in CEECs import market increased from in 1990s. WECs cannot consider that CEECs separated from the other part of Europe anymore with joining NATO & EU. It will play an important role in various cultural exchanges as well as in the political, diplomatic and economic relationships with CEECs. There are many differences & similarity between Bulgaria and CEECs in Political, Economical and Geographical arena. Membership of EU will continue to produce positive effects on the relationship between Bulgaria and CEECs. Problems of Bulgaria should be solved through this peaceful democratic process. Facing a New World order with EU and NATO, Bulgaria has to get international support from various areas in the world to enhance her international standing. Facing joining in EU & NATO, and a New World order, CEECs has to get international support from various areas in the world to enhance her international standing. EU & NATO has supported CEECs's globalization and CEECs's policy about it at UN and elsewhere. Furthermore, regarding Bulgaria as present and future partner in the international society, Bulgaria should make short and long term strategies from personal to cultural interchange as well as strengthen the trust in the political and diplomatic relationship with CEECs.
구조중심 협동학습 활용 "생물과 환경" 단원 수업이 초등학생의 과학적 의사소통 능력에 미치는 영향

‘The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of structure-centered cooperative learning which improves the scientific communication skills in elementary school. To examine effects of structured cooperative learning, two six-grade classes from the same elementary school in Gyeonggi province were respectively selected as the experimental and control group. The experimental group was taught using structure-centered cooperative learning, while the control group was taught using traditional explanation. The major findings are as follows; First, the students who were taught using structure-centered cooperative learning program had high scores in the describing area of the scientific explanations than those in the control group. Second, structurecentered cooperative learning program suggests that statistically significant results in justified claim area of the scientific claims. But, there is no significant differences in explaining and evidence-based claim area between two groups.
