Displaced fractures of olecranon in adults require operative treatment. The goal of treatment is to rigidly fix the fracture fragment. to anatomically restore the joint surface and to allow range of motion early. Authors treated fractures of olecranon by open reduction and internal fixation using K-wire and tension band wiring technique in 38 adult patients from April 1989 to October 1995 at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Maryknoll Hospital This article documents the study of relationship between the treatment result and involvement of articular surface, articular step-off and gap of articular surface. The results were as follows: l. The clinical results were good or fair in 31 cases(82%) r, cording to the criteria by Helm et al. 2. Involvement of articular surface. step-off and gap of articular surface affected the results. 3. The clinical results were satisfactory in patients with postoperative step-off less than 2mm and postoperative gap of articular surface less than 2mm. 4. The clinical results were satisfactory in patients with articular involvement less than 60%.
급성 슬관절 손상에 동반되어 자기공명영상에 나타난 골멍(bone bruise)의 임상적 의의

The Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) is accepted as a useful tool for the diagnosis of injury of the knee recently. The bone bruise is found on magnetic resonancc imaging as bone signal change that is not found on the simple radiograph. The bone bruise represents trabecular fractures, hemorrhage, and edema of the bone marrow without disruption of the cortex, and cannot be detected with conventional radiography. The criteria of decresed signal intensity on the T1 weighted image and increased signal intensity on the T2 weighted image were applied for the assessment of the bone bruise. From Jan. 1991 to Dec. 1995, MRI was performed on 78 patients with suspicious injury in meniscus or ligament structure of the knee. The bone bruises were documented in 22 of the 78 patients(28%) with suspicious ligament injury. Of the 22 patients with bone bruise, 80% had lesions of the lateral compartment. The most common associated ligament injury with bone bruise The medial collateral ligament(72%), and the next is the anterior cruciate ligament(41%). The most important consideration in bone bruise is an association with ligamentous injuries, and the detection of the bone bruise is very important in meticulous evaluation of ligamentous injuries.

Garlic has garnered attention as a useful material which contains many bioactive molecules for the prevention and/or treatment of various human ailments, including infectious diseases. In this study we tested several extracts of garlic on cellular activity in human neutrophils. Stimulation of human neutrophils with chloroform extract of garlic (GCE) elicited intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) increases in a phospholipase C independent manner. GCE also stimulated superoxide anion production, which was completely blocked by a calcium (Ca2+) chelator. We also observed that stimulation of human neutrophils with GCE caused production of the chemokine CXCL8 in a concentration-dependent manner. GCE also stimulated activity of two important mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and p38 MAPK. Moreover, GCE-induced CXCL8 production was inhibited by a p38 MAPK inhibitor (SB203580) but not by an ERK inhibitor (PD98059). Taken together, our results demonstrate that GCE contains bioactive natural compounds that stimulate [Ca2+]i signaling, superoxide anion production, and CXCL8 production. Thus, GCE may be useful for the development of immune-modulating agents against infectious diseases.
AHP 기법에 의한 농업용 저수지의 상태평가 기준 설정

In this study, in order to establish the criteria for evaluation of importance by the type of facility specialized for agricultural reservoirs, an expert group consisting of a total of 167 members who were in management, or specialized in the fields of design, research, and diagnosis were organized, and the importance for facilities was set with application of the AHP technique. The importance of dam body, spillway, and intake structure composing a reservoir were set at 59%, 24%, and 17%, and the importance of dam crest, upstream slope, and downstream slope constituting a dam body was set at 32%, 31%, and 37%, respectively. In addition, the importance of approach channel, regulated channel, chute channel, and stilling basin consisting a spillway was set at 15%, 44%, 26%, and 15%, and the importance of inclined conduit and outlet conduit consisting an intake structure was set at 35% and 65%, respectively. The safety grade of the reservoirs evaluated by applying the newly presented importance values in this study showed the rearrangement of the grades with a change of 11% compared to the previous grades. In this way, the newly established criteria are expected to be utilized as basic data with strategic importance in reservoir safety management and disaster prevention as well as the operation of systems in the future.
플레이밍(Flaming)에 영향을 끼치는 변인에 관한 연구 : 사회적 영향 모델을 중심으로

이 연구는 톰슨(Thompsen, 1996)의 사회적 영향 모델을 중심으로 인터넷 플레이밍에 대한 해석과 행위에 영향을 미치는 사회적 변인을 탐색하기 위해 실시되었다. 특히, 사회적 영향 변인의 효과를 보다 구체적으로 분석하기 위해 고등학생과 대학생 집단의 응답을 서로 비교분석했다. 분석결과, 플레이밍 행위의지에 관해서는 고등학생과 대학생 모두 집단규범에 따른 영향을 받고 있었다. 이와 함께 고등학생은 플레이밍에 대한 대리학습이 많을수록, 대학생은 플레이밍에 대한 대화가 많을수록 플레이밍 행위의지가 높았다. 플레이밍 행위경험과 관련해서는 고등학생과 대학생 모두 집단규범이 중요한 요인으로 작용하는 가운데 고등학생은 직접적 언급이 많을수록 플레이밍 행위경험이 많은 것으로 나타났다. 사회적 변인들의 영향력을 고려한 이 연구는 플레이밍에 대한 보다 포괄적 이해를 가져올 수 있을 것으로 보인다. The flaming which is defined as posting deliberately hostile messages online has been perceived as one of the most dangerous behaviors on the Internet. Although the previous research on flaming focused on finding the effects of anonymity and individual differences, more comprehensive explanation is still needed. This research attempted to find social variables which affect the attitude toward and the act of flaming based on the differences between high school and college students. Findings show that both high school and college students are strongly influenced by their affiliated groups in the intention to commit online flaming and past experiences of the number of the acts of flaming. At the same time, vicarious learning was positively associated with high school students, but direct utterance was positively associated with college students. The implications of the study was also discussed.
