이 논문은 실천적 보행의 가치를 보여주는 박병일의 작품을 분석하여, 산수화에서 발전된 현대 도시 풍경화의 현대적 의의와 도시 속 자행(自行)되는 걷기의 사회문화적 가치를 탐구한다. 작가에 의해 실천된 보행이 이루어낸 예술적 변화와 사회적 변화를 확인함으로써 박병일의 현대 도시 풍경화가 가지는 동시대적 가치를 살펴본다. 첫 번째 장에서는 박병일의 작품이 가지는 현대 도시 풍경화로서의 특징과 그 가치를 분석한다. 작가의 보행이 실천됨에 따라 산수화에서 변화한 현대 도시 풍경화의 사생을 탐구하여 박병일 작품에 대한 역사적·미술사적 탐구를 진행한다. 사생에 대한 재해석으로 인해 발생한 조형적 언어의 다원화와 발전한 개성을 살펴보며 박병일 작품이 가지는 개성들을 파악한다. 작가의 보행, 작가만의 블록형태 미점준, 여백에 대한 현대적 해석이 가지는 의의를 이해한다. 두 번째 장에서는 상황주의의 실천과 전략을 통해 바라본 박병일 작품의 의미와 도시를 걷는 것이 형성하는 사회문화적 가치를 연구한다. 심리지리적 지도로서의 박병일 작품을 이해하고자 환경과 개인의 관계를 자본주의적 관점에서 해석한 상황주의의 주장들을 살펴본다. 도시의 사회문화적 의미를 이해하고, 상황주의에 의해 실천된 전략을 정리함으로써 박병일의 작품 속 해당 요소들을 발견한다. 그를 통해 도시를 걷는 것이 가지는 현대적 가치를 인식하고, 현대 도시의 일상을 풍경화로 담아내는 박병일 작품의 의미를 정리한다. This paper analyzes the works of Park Byung-il, which embody the value of practical walking, to explore the contemporary significance of urban landscapes derived from traditional Korean landscape painting and the sociocultural value of walking in urban spaces. By examining the artistic and social transformations brought about by the artist’s practice of walking, the study investigates the contemporaneity and relevance of Park Byung-il’s urban landscapes. The first chapter analyzes the characteristics and significance of Park Byung-il’s works as contemporary urban landscapes. It explores the evolution of urban landscapes from traditional Korean landscape painting through the artist’s practice of walking, conducting a historical and art-historical examination of his works. The chapter examines the diversification of artistic language and the development of individuality resulting from the reinterpretation of sketching. It identifies the unique aspects of Park’s works, including his practice of walking, his distinctive block-shaped dot technique, and his modern interpretation of spatial voids, while elucidating their artistic significance. The second chapter examines the significance of Park Byung-il’s works and the sociocu ltural value of walking in urban spaces through the lens of Situationist practices and strategies. It explores Park’s works as psychogeographic maps, analyzing the relationship between the environment and the individual from a capitalist perspective, as argued by Situationist theories. By understanding the sociocultural meaning of the urban context and summarizing the strategies practiced by the Situationists, the chapter identifies these elements with in Park’s works. This analysis highlights the modern value of walking in urban spaces and consolidates the significance of Park Byung-il’s works in capturing the everyday life of contemporary cities through urban landscapes.
