교정용 고무탄성재료의 생역학적 성질에 관한 연구

The purpose of this study was to inverstigate and compare the biomechanical properties of orthodontic rubber elastic materials. Latex bands, nylon-covered elastic threads and polyurethane-based elastic modules, delivering 205±10grams force to 30㎜ stretching state were selected and stored separately in 3 environments-air (22±3℃), distilled water (37±1℃), or natural saliva (37±1℃), And, the amount of remaining force and permanent elongation of each sample were measured on Instron at interval of 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 1 week, and 2 weeks. So the data derived were analyzed statistically. The results were as follows 1 . Force decay and permanent elongation of all materials increased with time lapsed ; elastic module, latex band and nylon-covered elastic thread in that order of the amount of force decay ; elastic module, elastic thread, latex band in that order of the amount of permanent elongation. 2. Among environmental conditions, force decay and permanent elongation in natural saliva, most increased, and those in air, least increased. 3. There was a negative correlation between force decay and permanent elongation. 4. Force decay and permanent elongation were most affected by the material itself, time and environments in that order. 5. After 24 hours in saliva, the percentage of remaining force in elastic module was 51.9%(107.37grams) : in latex band, 83.2%(172.62grams) : in elastic thread, 85.0%(17925grams). After 2 weeks in saliva, the percentage of remaining force in elastic module was 42.9 %(88.75grams) in latex band, 74.5% (154.50grams) : in elastic thread, 77.6% (163.75grams).

Morphine 및 Epinephrine으로 일어난 血糖, 血中 Ca 및 Mg量에 미치는 Chlorpromazine 및 Reserpine의 影響

In order to investigate the interactions among certain drugs which are related to the release and uptake of catecholamine, authors have made experimental study on the influence of chlorpromazine and reserpine to morphine and epinephrine effect upon the blood sugar, serum Ca and Mg contents in the rabbits. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Chlorpromazine, reserpine, morphine and epinephrine elevated blood sugar. Hyperglycemic effect induced by chlorpromazine and reserpine lasted to 24 hours and the maximum hyperglycemic effect by morphine was observed at one hour after injection. 2. Premedication with chlorpromazine significantly inhibited the hyperglycemic effect of morphine and epinephrine, on the other hand, premedication with reserpine potentiated hyperglycemic effect of morphine and epinephrine. 3. Serum Ca was increased and Mg was decreased by chlorpromazine premedication and both were decreased by reserpine. Serum Ca was decreased and Mg was increased by morphine premedication and epinephrine induced elevation of serum Ca. 4. Morphine injection after chlorpromazine premedication resulted in lowering of serum Ca and Mg and epinephrine injection after reserpine premedication also resulted in lowering of serum Ca and Mg.

The crux of this paper is to compare the uses of violence and fraud in Christopher Marlowe's The Jew of Malta and Chi Chun-hsiang's The Orphan of Chao. Although the periods of history in which these two works were written was approximately 200 years apart; and they were written about two vastly different cultures, the uses of violence and fraud were extremely similar. This is possible because the basic concepts of violence and fraud are expressed throughout the history of culture. In the West, from the time of Homer, men with characters of violence and fraud have been described thoroughly. In The Iliad, we see these traits in the character Achilles; in The Odyssey, in Odysseus. In Dante's Divine Comedy, Dante is introduced to Hell by Virgil where he meets the ghosts of ancient sinners who have suffered extreme torment. Milton, in Paradise Lost, represents violence in the character Moloc and fraud in the Satanic character Belial. Finally, Machiavelli, in The Prince, used the lion to symbolize violence and the fox to symbolize fraud. Writers and dramatists of the Elizabethan Age were greatly influenced by these works, and especially by The Prince. Christopher Marlowe was one of these men. In The Jew of Malta, Marlowe chronicles the life of Barabas, who through various acts of fraud eliminated all those who could speak against him. He used his daughter and servant in order to kill Lodowick and Mathias, and the rest of life was trying to secure himself from others who know he had caused these two men's death. Finally, because of an act of fraud on the part of Calymath and Ferneze, Barabas, himself was killed, instead of Calymath. In The Orphan of Chao the treacherous life of Tu-an Ku is described. Throughout this story Tu-an Ku is trying to consolidate his power in Yuan Dynasty China. He does this through planning the demise of his enemy, Chao Tun and his entire family. Through fraud and violence he kills all those concerned with Chao Tun's family, except Orphan of Chao, who was exchanged for the son of Ch'eng Ying in a daring plot by Ch'eng Ying and Kung-sun Ch'u-chiu. This boy was killed by Tu-an Ku, who thought he was Orphan of Chao. Finally, after Orphan of Chao has grown, Ch'eng Ying tells him the whole story, and he arrests Tu-an Ku who is tried and killed for trying to conspire against the Emperor. In both stories, the anti-hero is killed after having perpetrated numerous act of fraud and violence on other members of society. This paper goes into comparing the types of fraud and violence used by these two in depth in order to draw the conclusion that, violence and fraud are inherent traits present in all people, no matter what their race, color, or creed. That is, that all human beings have what I would like to term as a "shadow archetype"; or that all people are inherently evil and capable of performing violent and treacherous acts on others.

Shakespeare의 Helen 연구

It is indispensable, for an approach to Helen of Shakespeare, to survey Helen of Homer and of Euripides. Helen of Homer is a "gracious, lovely lady." She resembles an "immortal goddess" in her immortal beauty. Even though Helen has been ravished by Paris from Menelaus, she always is not only Priam's "dear child," but also Hector's respectful sister-in-law. Homer describes Helen as a chaste and modest lady. Helen blames herself as a "shameless, evil-minded and abominable creature." In a word, Helen of Homer is a beautiful, lovely lady, whose chaste and humble attitude is respected by the Trojan leaders. Helen of Homer is very different from Helen of Euripides and of Shakespeare in her personality. Helen of Euripides is particularly different from of Homer in many aspects: Helen of Euripides is, except Helen of Egypt in Helen, always cursed by the many characters around her. Even though Euripides endows Helen with immortal beauty as Homer does, his description of Helen in his many works is very severe in condemning her moral fault. Helen of Euripides is certainly a gracious and lovely "whore." Shakespeare also endows Helen with immortal beauty. Helen of Shakespeare reminds us of Christopher Marlowe's Helen whose "face that launched a thousand ships" to Trojan harbour, but Helen of Shakespeare is different from of Marlowe, whose "lips sucks forth" Faustus soul. Marlowe's is a witch, but Shakespeare's is not. Comparing Helen of Shakespeare with of Euripides, she is never a Helen of Egypt, but a Helen of Troy who lives in the same world of Helen in Euripides' works. Helen of Shakespeare is also a "whore" endowed with immortal beauty as Euripides' is.

Vitamin D_3와 TGF-β가 치주인대세포 활성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

TGF-β is a polypeptide with multiple physiological functions in regulation of cell-to-cell interaction and in growth and development. The active form of vitmain D_3, 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol [1.25-(OH)_2D_3], is one of the most potent stimulators of osteoclastic acitivity. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of Vitamin D_3 and/or TGF-β on the periodontal ligament(PDL) cells. Human PDL cells were prepared from the first premolars extracted for the orthodontic treatment and were incubated in the environment of 37℃, 5% CO_2 and 95% humidity. 10, 50 or l00ng/㎖ of 1,25-(OH)_2D_3. and 0.1, 1, 5 or l0ng/㎖ of TGF-β were administered to the culture wells, separately or in combination. And the viability of PDL cells was evaluated by MTT assay. The obtained results were as follows. 1. The viability of PDL cells in l0ng/㎖ vitamin D_3 was not significantly differenent from that of the control group at 1, 2 and 3-day of cultivation, but it was significantly increased in 50ng/㎖ of Vitamin D_3 at 3-day and in l00ng/㎖ of Vitamin D_3 at 2 and 3-day. 2. The viability of PDL cells in 0.lng/㎖ of TGF-β was not significantly differenent from that of the control group at 1, 2 and 3-day of cultivation, but it was significantly increased in 1 and 5ng/㎖ of TGF-β at 3-day of cultivation, and in 10ng/㎖ of TGF-β at 2 and 3-day of cultivation. 3. In case of admixture of lng/㎖ TGF-β and the various concentrations of vitamin D_3, the viability of PDL cells was significantly increased in the admixture of l00ng/㎖ of vitamin D_3 at 3-day of cultivation 4. In case of admixture of 5ng/㎖ of TGF-β and the various concentrations of vitamin D_3, the viability of PDL cells began to be increased from 2-day of cultivation in the admixture of 10 50 and l00ng/㎖ of vitamin D_3, but it was not maintained at 3-day in the admixture of l0ng/㎖ of vitamin D_3. 5. In case of admixture of l0ng/㎖ of TGF-β and the various concentrations of vitamin D_3, the viability of PDL cells was significantly increased in the admixture of 50ng/㎖ of vitamin D_3 at 2 and 3-day of cultivation, and in the admixture of l00ng/㎖ at 1, 2 and 3-day.
