HCCI engine has desirable emission characteristics as well as high efficiency, but its limited operating range makes it difficult to come into wide use. From our previous study, it is shown that pre-procesing of the fuel during NVO (Negative Valve Overlap) leads to extend the low-load limit of HCCI.1) In this study, zero-dimensional single zone model, along with fuel injection timing variation strategy, was adopted to simulate and analyze the combustion phenomenon. With this fuel pre-processing, more stable operation can be achieved compared to the main injection case which doesn"t perform pre-processing of fuel. In addition, the controllability of combustion phasing can be achieved by varying pilot injection timings.
