In the department of chest surgery of WonKwang university hospital, mechanical valve replacement was performed in 51 cases from June 1985 to September 1987. Among these, 32 cases were mitral valve replacement, 4 cases were aortic valve replacement, and 15 cases were double valve replacement. 26 cases were male and 25 cases were female and age distribution ranged from 16 years old to 63 years old. Early death within 30 days after operation was 2 cases [3.9%] and causes of death were right heart failure [1] and right ventricular wall rupture [1]. Among 49 early survivors, 2 cases of late death were developed and the causes of death were cardiomyopathy [1] and ventricular arrhythmia [1] Anticoagulant therapy was done with warfarin sodium to the level of 1.5-2 times of normal prothrombin time [20-40%] in 47 survivors. Symptomatically, 93.6% of preoperative NYHA functional class III or IV were converted to the NYHA functional class I or II during follow up.

We experienced surgical correction of 2 cases of discrete membranous subaortic stenosis. Case 1 was 19 years old male patient. His complaints were fatigue, exertional dyspnea, syncope and angina for 8 years. Ejection. systolic murmur was heard at the second right intercostal space and diastolic murmur was heard at the apex. A thrill was palpated over the second right intercostal space and area of the carotid artery. 2-D echo, cardiac cath and left ventriculogram revealed discrete membranous subaortic stenosis and VSD. Complete excision of discrete membrane without mymectomy was done. VSD was closed with dacron patch and aortic valve was replaced with St. Jude medical valve. Case 11 was 16 years old female whose complaints were exertional dyspnea and syncope. Ejection systolic murmur was heard at second right intercostal space, but diastolic murmur was not heard. A thrill was palpated over the second right intercostal space and the area of carotid artery. 2-D echo, cardiac cath and left ventriculogram revealed discrete membranous subaortic stenosis. Complete excision of fibrous tissue and myotomy were made and aortic valve was replaced with St. Jude medical valve. Operative finding was followed: both aortic valves showed deformity of leaflets. Subaortic region had a thickened central fibrous body from which the ridge protruded. Both patient`s postoperative course were uneventful and short-term follow-up results were good except soft systolic murmur at the aortic area.

We have enperienced one case of ascending aortic aneurysm with aortic regurgitation and tricuspid insufficiency. This 57 year old man had been suffered from dyspnea on exertion and palpitation. 2-D echocardiogram and cardiac catheterization confirmed aneurysm of ascending aorta with aortic regurgitation. We had total replacement of the ascending aorta and aortic valve with St Jude’s aortic valve composite graft and reimplantation of coronary ostia on the graft Postoperative course was uneventful and discharged with good clinical results for follow-up.

This paper discusses 2D models of beams for simulating the fracture of brittle materials. A simulation of an experiment on a concrete beam subjected to bending, in which two overlapping cracks occur, is used to study the effect of individual beam characteristics and different arrangements of the beams in the overall network mesh. It was found that any regular orientation of the beams influences the resulting crack patterns. Methods to implement a wide range of poisson`s ratios are also developed, the use of the mesh to study arbitrary micro-structures is outlined. The crack pattern that are obtained with mesh are in good agreement with the experimental results. Also,numerical simulations of the tests were performed by means of a model, and non-integer dimensions were measured on the predicted mesh damage patterns.
강관압입후 슬롯 홀을 갖는 비개착 터널공법의 현장적용에 관한 연구

In the study, a new non-open cut tunnel steel pipe method using slot hole has been developed. As is overcomes shortcomings of conventional methods, it is applied to the field. The main concept of the new method is the steel pipe pumping system with slot holes which, by means of formation slot holes between each steel pipe, applied to the magnitude of the relaxed earth pressure caused by excavation to the ground to prevent ground displacement. The stability of the support members and effect of displacement control of the new method were verified through several ways as numerical analysis and site test. The new method was applied to the construction of a11.5m wide, 7.4m high and 50m long section that passes side subway and large buildings in inner city. By applying the new method, tunnel construction was successfully completed in 6 months. It decreases the construction period to 30% compared to that of conventional methods, and ground was almost negligible
The Development and Characterization of SMT Typed Slim Micro-speaker for Mini Multimedia Devices

The design of micro speaker has been studied to improve to apply SMT to the connection of voice coil and micro speaker. Speaker is populated in PCB by SMT, and then connected to frame as one module. This makes it possible of precise population. sound pressure level(SPL) is same as previous, this improvement was confirmed SPL between 200Hz ~ 1KHz to use dual diaphragm composed of a polyether ether ketone, and the aluminum laminated film, and Deep phenomenon is remove in 8KHz bandwidth though smaller rectangular magnet is applied than previous circular magnet. The total harmonic distortion(THD) between 300Hz and 800Hz is improved within 10%, and also in low sound quality.
