"Renaissance-recovery of the spirit antique, Humanism-return of the art antique, The Reformation-restoration of the first church." Though these three terms designate each one goal different, they rejoin by the conscience of operate "The placement of the authority by the libral spirit". The science of humanists which came from rediscovery antiquity helps to recover the original signification of the Bible. Soon after, this new science open the door of the Reformation. The Reformatists preconize the church music more easy, simple and universal in a bid to make participate in a worship every church member. At divine service, the believers praise monophonic psalms, while they sang harmonic songs at home, at work and at concert. The Psalter is one of the most important church musics in that period. The musical study of the huguenot Psalter of 1583 by Paschal de L 'ESTOCART is as follows : The Psalter of 1583 provides look into the practice and ideas of the Calvinistic era. The musician states his intention to retain the psalm tunes in their original form, and this he carries out faithfully. Thus the variety of rhythm patterns which exist in the added voices is an important element in itself. The grouping of voices, the shifting of such groupings, the change from contrapuntal to chordal writing, all are done skillfully and effectively. And again, the wide variety of chords is graceful. These Psalms show both the linear and the vertical approach to part-writing. L' ESTOCART was skillful in the use of altered tones in harmonic writing, and wrote as one aware of the impending change from modality to tonality. Because of the polyphonic character as well as the historical position, the 1583 Psalter was written for intellectual and religious concert.
