        억양기반의 확장이 시각장애아동의 언어습득에 미치는 긍정성

        본 연구는 다양한 억양(intonation)의 습득이 시각장애 아동들의 언어습득에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있는지에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 모든 언어에는 고유의 억양이 존재한다. 그리고 억양은 각 언어마다 지극히 다른 성향을 띠고 있다. 본 연구는 다음과 같은 질문들을 몇 가지 이론들이 주장하는 바를 통해 증명하고자 한다. 만약 다양한 억양을 습득할 수 있다면 모국어뿐 만 아니라 외국어를 습득함에 영향을 미치지 않을까? 만약 그렇다면 다양한 억양의 데이터베이스로 볼 수 있는 억양기반(intonation base)이 있을 때 외국어를 익히는데 음의 근거가 되지 않을까? 이러한 질문을 규명하기 위해 먼저 국내에서도 서로 같은 의미는 가지지만 다른 억양을 구사하게 하는 한국어의 표준어와 지방 방언 그리고 몇 개의 외국어를 사례로 고찰한다. 이 연구는 다양하고 많은 억양을 접할수록 시각장애아동들이 외국어를 습득함에 있어 유리하다고 파악하고 있다. 두 번째로 억양의 기반이 미칠 수 있는 영향들은 선행된 연구의 결과를 통해 상관관계를 규명하고, 마지막으로 억양의 기초가 만들어지는 시기에 있어서 다양한 악기의 사용이 한 언어에 국한되지 않은 폭넓은 억양의 기초를 형성할 수 있다는 것을 밝히고, 언어에 들어있는 억양의 성격과 음악의 박자의 의미가 서로 상통한다고 주장한다. 또한 텍스트의 자극을 받기 힘든 시각 장애아동들이 자신을 표현할 때 만들어보고 표현해 보았던 음의 강약이 언어를 습득함에 있어 억양의 기초가 된다고 것을 고찰하고자 한다. Every language has its own intonation and each language's intonation has a different nature. If we can learn a variety of intonations, would that affect foreign language acquisition as well as mother tongue? Several theories claim that the accent and intonation of language and the tempo and rhythm of music are associated with each other. This study is to demonstrate that the memory of intonation for visually handicapped children when learning a foreign language can be improved through aural stimulation. To investigate these questions, Korean standard language and Korean dialects were investigated. The second experiment reviews the accent of the language and the tempo of the music is closely associated with each other and was based on a previous study of intonation, which may affect the results of the investigation. It was found that language learning for visually impaired children who do not receive visual stimulation, using musical instruments can be an important foundation for learning intonation.

        영어만화 제작활동이 초등학생 영어학습의 정의적 요인에 미치는 효과 연구

        This study focuses on the implementation of English cartoon-making activities in class as part of the English curriculum for elementary school students. The impact on motivation is investigated and suggestions for improvement of self-efficacy and motivation in learning English are provided. For this study, 4 lessons were implemented to five selected classes of fifth graders in a public elementary school in Gyeonggi-do and they were divided into two groups: three classes as an experimental group (102 people) and two classes as a control group (69 people). The main results obtained through the study are summarized as follows: students in the experimental group who took part in cartoon-making activities improved significantly more than the students in the control group in terms of the degree of self- efficacy. Self-efficacy and motivation of learning English according to six sub-factors are analyzed. Self-confidence, self-regulation, intrinsic motivation and self-development motivation improved significantly. Task level and instrumental motivation showed no significant difference. According to the statistical analysis, cartoon-making activities in English classes can have a significant positive effect on the affective factors of elementary school students learning English.

        대학생과 기업 실무자가 인식하는영어능력 구직역량 차이 비교

        This study examines college students’ and corporate workers’ perceptions of the importance of English skills at work. Students and workers responded to a questionnaire that uses a structured scale (defined in previous literature); 229 responses from corporate workers and 294 responses from college students were used in the final analysis. There is no evaluation tool for the importance of English skills at work, so this study analyzed the type and content of six business English assessments: the TOEIC by ETS; BULAT, CEIBT, and BEC by UCLES; and ELSA and EFB by LCCIEB. This selection was based on Cho’s research (1998). For all items with significant differences, corporate workers scored higher than college students. Several points were clear in the analysis. First, on average, college students and corporate workers consider the following skills important job qualifications: using correct grammar; preparing presentation materials; giving verbal presentations; preparing material for meetings; and reading and understanding business letters, other media, and reports of current events. This implies that both corporate workers and college students view these items as essential business English skills. Second, an independent sample t-test revealed significant differences in the opinions of the two groups on the following items: pronunciation; intonation; counseling customers; giving verbal presentations; accurate expression of opinions; one-on-one telephone conversations; writing business letters and reports; polite and euphemistic expressions; comprehending mechanical manuals and contracts; writing manuals and contracts; and understanding current affairs and foreign cultures and customs. Corporate workers rated all these items as more important than college students did.

        Whole Body Vibration Effects on Body Composition in the Postmenopausal Korean Obese Women: Pilot Study

        Background: Whole body vibration (WBV) confers a continuous vibration stimuli to the body. While some reports have described the effects of WBV on bone mineral density, muscle mass, muscle power, study of WBV effects on body composition in postmenopausal women is rare. The aim of this pilot study was to examine the effect of WBV on the changes of body weight and body composition in postmenopausal women. Methods: Fifteen postmenopausal healthy and obese women who were on staff of one university hospital staff located in Suwon, Korea were voluntarily recruited. Inclusion criteria were age over 50 years, and body mass index (BMI) ≥25kg/m2. WBV group training was performed in 10 minute sessions twice weekly for 8 weeks. Before and after training,anthropometric measurements and body composition analysis were performed. Results: Weight (-1.18 ± 1.61 kg), BMI (-0.49 ± 0.66 kg/m2), waist circumference (-2.34 ± 2.48 cm) and muscle mass (-0.54± 0.59 kg) decreased signifi cantly the 8 week intervention. Decrease of muscle mass was correlated with weight (r = 0.621,P = 0.013), BMI (r = 0.596, P = 0.019) and percent body fat (r = -0.518, P = 0.048). Linear regression analysis revealed that the changes of muscle mass had negative relationship with percent body fat change and a positive relationship with body weight changes. Conclusion: WBV might display a weak but positive effect on body weight and waist circumference reduction in healthy postmenopausal obese women. However, attention must be given to avoid a decrease of muscle mass.

        대학생의 영어 학습 동기와 전략: 영어 기초실력 취약 대학생을 중심으로

        The purpose of this study is to understand English learning motives and the reality of English learning strategies while focusing on the characteristics of English underachieving college students present as well as to investigate the implications on high school English education by comparing the students according to their majors: English and non-English. This study took samples from junior students in two four-year programs at private universities in Seoul. It classified the students with low TOEIC scores into English major and non-English major groups. The collected questionnaire result was analyzed using SPSS 21.0. The analysis result is as follows. First, this study verified the effect of English learning motives on English underachieving college students depending on their majors. The result was students with a non-English major showed a higher level of anxiety regarding English learning motives, while students with an English major showed greater instrumental motivation and a better attitude. Both results showed a statistically significant difference. Second, this study verified the effect of English learning strategies on English underachieving college students depending on their majors. The result showed a higher use of compensation strategies for non-English majoring students in terms of English learning strategy while English major students showed a higher use of meta-cognitive strategies. Both results showed a statistically significant difference. This result indicates alternative plans are needed for English learning among Korean college students in terms of socio-economic efficiency of English education considering their characteristics and situations. Moreover, more segmented and customized English learning programs that consider one’s English level are necessary to overcome learners’ difficulties that are generated from individual differences, as well as to improve the educational effect. Above all, providing customized learning opportunities is needed, as one can better develop English ability in accordance with the needs of their majors and situations rather than just through accumulating linguistic knowledge.

        문제 중심 소집단 협동학습이 초등학생 영어 학습과 흥미도 향상에 미치는 효과 연구

        The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of small group cooperative learning lessons on a group of sixth grade elementary school students in terms of English listening and speaking skills, and general interest. A problem-based learning program was applied a total of eight times. The target of this study is 27 students in an experimental group and 27 students as a control group in the sixth-grade of an elementary school in Gyeonggi-do. They were divided into two groups: existing teacher-centered general classes (control group) and problem-centered small group cooperative learning classes (experimental group). After 4 weeks (a total of 8 times) of experiments, English speaking and listening skills and interest amongst the students were observed, and pre-and post-comparisons were verified. The results of the study were as follows: First, in terms of listening skills, the experimental group's average at the end of the classes was higher than the control group and showed that problem-oriented small group cooperative learning helped improve English listening ability. Second, there was a significant difference in speaking skills of the experimental group in the pre-test and post-test analysis results, and the results showed that small group cooperative learning can help improve English speaking skills. Third, examining the changes of interest in elementary school students for English learning, the results showed significant difference. Therefore, this study shows that problem-oriented small group cooperative learning can have a positive effect on elementary school students' English learning.

        Padlet 활용한 e-블렌디드 러닝 능동성 강화: 대학 예체능 전공자들을 중심으로

        This study aimed at presenting examples of teaching methods using the online collaborative bulletin board Padlet, which is an effective tool that can enhance the experience of e-learning for 71 students majoring in arts, music and physical education in the University. As a result of the study, a blended e-learning activity utilizing Padlet, activeness and engagement were observed using a qualitative research method. The collaborative learning experience yielded a positive effect on English learning outcomes for participants. Through the examples in this study, blended e-Learning will allow educators to explore various methods in terms of designing lectures and activities tailored to the characteristics of learners by major and department of the university.

        A Study on Effectiveness of Curriculum in Graduate School of English Education

        The quality of education is deeply influenced by students, teachers, schools and government. Among these factors, the role of teachers' knowledge and teaching skills and competencies to communicate directly with students may be particularly important. In Graduate School of Education students can be divided into two types: current teachers and future teachers who want to have the teacher certification from graduate school. These different characteristics of the students negatively effects on the efficiency of their training and education. This findings show the problems and the ways to improve this issue through the analysis of English education majors in Graduate School of Education,Finally, the results show that the present curriculum and the educational contents, which are being offered to students of English education for the Graduate School of Education are more conducive to the re-educational field of incumbent teachers, rather than training future teachers.

        공무원 온라인 영어교육훈련이 조직성과에 미치는 영향

        It is clear that utilizing the Internet and multimedia for English training is helpful not only to improve the English proficiency of civil servants through self-development, but also to increase the performance and competitiveness of the individuals and public organizations. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of online English training for public servants on organizational performance in terms of human resource development, mainly in the case of local officials. The target of this investigation was the civil servants in Grade 5 or less who worked in Gangnam-gu Office, Seoul City Hall, Gwanak-gu Office, Jongno-gu Office, and local government frontline administration officials who had English training in online education within one year. The results of the survey show that four of the five hypotheses in this article were proved to be correct. It was confirmed by the empirical results of this study that the cognitive development due to online English training for civil servants had a significant impact on organizational performance. In addition, in online English education, problems relating to information, a variety of tools and lack of a menu system were also recognized. This study has value as an analysis of the performance of the online English training for public organizations, which is currently inactivated. Also, it can be considered that this study has significance as an analysis of the performance of online English training through the sample with the particularities of public organizations.

        영어학습전략과 신념이 수행능력에 미치는 상관관계분석―영어전공과 타전공대학생의 비교를 중심으로

        This study analyzes the difference of learning beliefs and strategies between college English majors and Non-English majors. The study forwards three specific research questions: 1) What are the differences in their English learning strategies and beliefs? 2) What are the differences in their acquired English proficiency resulting from their English learning strategies and beliefs? 3) Does a correlation exist between their English learning strategies and beliefs? We surveyed 99 English majors and 99 Non-English majors on their English learning strategies and beliefs on English performance. The results of this study are as follows: First, English majors have more learning strategies and beliefs while the learning English ability of English majors is higher than Non-English majors. Second, the correlation between learning beliefs and learning ability ismore significant than the correlation between the learning strategies and the learning ability. Finally, this study verifies that a stronger belief in learning English leads to greater English proficiency. 이 연구는 대학생들의 영어전공자들과 타전공자들의 신념 및 전략의 차이를 진단하고, 영어학습 전략과 신념이 수행능력에 미치는 상관관계를 검증함으로서, 대학생의 영어 학습에 대한 실효성을 높이는 선행요인을 파악하는데 목적이 있다. 연구목적에 따른 구체적인 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 영어 전공 및 비전공 대학생들의 영어학습전략 사용과 영어학습신념은 어떠한 차이가 있을 것인가? 둘째, 영어 수행능력 수준별 영어학습전략과 영어학습신념은 어떠한 차이가 있을 것인가? 셋째, 영어학습 전략과 영어학습신념은 서로 어떠한 상관관계를 가지는가? 이를 위해 각각 99명의 영어 전공 및 비전공 대학생을 대상으로 영어학습전략과 영어학습신념에 대한 설문을 실시하여 비교분석한 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 영어 학습에서 영어 전공대학생들은 타전공대학생들보다 영어 학습에 대한 신념이 더 높으며 더 전략적인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 영어학습전략과 영어수행능력 간의 상관 보다는, 영어학습신념과 영어수행능력 간의 상관관계가 더 유의미하게 나타났다. 따라서 학습자가 영어 전반적인 영역에 대해 높은 학습신념을 가지고 임할 수 있도록 해야만 높은 수행능력이 나타난다.
