        Measurements of Range of Motion and Surface Electromyography for Analysis of Wearer Mobility with Firefighter Protective Clothing

        This study aimed to investigate the variation in wearer mobility indicated by the range of motion (ROM) and performance of muscles while wearing firefighter protective clothing (FPC). The present study regarded the effects of wearing FPC fire jacket and pants, which form part of FPC, as objective numerical values. Wearer mobility was analyzed by ROM and electromyography (EMG) data, those were obtained by analyzing all experimental motions (shoulder flexion/ extension, shoulder adduction/abduction, shoulder rotation, hip flexion/extension, and hip adduction/abduction). The ROM and EMG of nine participants were measured using a 3D Motion Analysis system while they wore FPC or not. The EMG data were analyzed to determine the percentage of maximum voluntary contraction. This study showed that wearing FPC weighing three kilograms significantly decreased ROM (12.5 ± 2.9 %). The decrease in ROM was attributed to the pressure and weight of the FPC. Additionally, the results of EMG occurred by wearing FPC were not demonstrated when comparing with and without wearing FPC. Results of the present study showed that wearing FPC in general decrease the wearer’s mobility.

        Micromesh carbon nanosheet electrodes fabricated by phase-separation of immiscible polymer blends

        We adopt micromesh structure in carbon nanosheets (M-CNS) fabricated by phase-separation of immiscible polyacrylonitrile/poly(methyl methacrylate) blend precursors to improve their properties as a transparent conductive electrode. The facile approach without any time-consuming patterning processes can improve trade-off between sheet resistance and optical transmittance of conventional CNS. The M-CNS exhibits improved sheet resistance of ∼50% without compromising optical transmittance, leading to a high power conversion efficiency of ∼2.07% for M-CNS electrode-based organic photovoltaics.

        Exploring the appropriate test methods to examine the efects of frefghter personal protective equipment on mobility

        This study aimed to ascertain the appropriate test methods for the investigation of the efect of personal protective equipment on mobility of frefghters. Nine male volunteers performed a physical performance test (crawl, obstacle course, side-to-side jumps, heavy-object drag, and step-ups), functional balance test (functional reach, timed up and go, and wooden plank time), range of motion test, and subjective evaluation under four clothing conditions with diferent weights and combinations of personal protective equipment. The results showed that physical performance, functional balance ability, and joint angles signifcantly declined with increased weight of personal protective equipment. On subjective evaluation, wearing heavy personal protective equipment increased perceived exertion and discomfort on movement. Our results proved that some of our test methods, including the obstacle course, side-toside jumps, functional reach, timed up and go, range of motion test, and subjective evaluation, can be used to examine the mobility of personal protective equipment wearers. The fndings of this study provide an efective guide for researchers and frefghters regarding the evaluation of mobility with personal protective equipment, as well as for manufacturers in the development of enhanced, comfortable personal protective equipment.

        Effect of Different Types of Firefighter Station Uniforms on Wearer Mobility using Range of Motion and Electromyography Evidence

        This study analyzed and compared wearer mobility for different types of clothing that also included the potential to develop firefighter station uniforms using range of motion (ROM) and electromyography (EMG). This study focused on a comparison of wearer mobility affected by different materials and shapes of the station uniforms worn under firefighter turnout gear. Japanese standard uniform (UNI), stretch-wear (ST), and compression-wear (CP) were used as station uniforms for the experiment. This study analyzed wearer movements and quantified ROM and EMG. In addition, the subjective evaluation of wearer mobility and comfort were assessed for comparisons. Nine healthy male students participated in the experiment. Wearer mobility was analyzed using ROM and EMG data obtained by measuring five motions; in addition, subjective evaluations were also obtained. As compared with the standard station uniform, ROM increased 6.8% and 7.2% due to stretch-wear and compression-wear. The benefits of wearing stretch material or compression material to improve muscle performance (such as reduced percent of maximum voluntary contraction) were not proven. Differences between materials and designs influenced subjective wearer comfort. In particular, the wearing of compression materials was shown best in terms of wearer comfort that may also allow greater wearer mobility.

        Transparent conductive electrode (TCE) is one of the necessary components in optoelectronic devices. However, as the demand for cost-effective, lightweight, and flexible electronic devices increases, conventional TCE materials based on metal oxides have several problems such as scarcity of indium and brittleness. Therefore, it is required to develop the next-generation TCE materials. In this point of view, we previously developed highly conducting carbon nanosheet (CNS) through simple solution-processing of polymeric carbon precursors. However, there is still a need to improve electrical and optical properties for a wide range of applications of CNS electrodes. In this work, we developed CNS with micromesh structure to improve TCE characteristics of the CNS via phase-separation of immiscible blend precursors. The facile approach without any-time consuming patterning processes can improve trade-off between sheet resistance and optical transmittance of conventional CNS.

        Accelerating the stabilization of polyacrylonitrile fibers by UV irradiation

        Commercial polyacrylonitrile (PAN)fibers, widely used as carbonfiber precursors, were treated withultraviolet (UV) light without any photo-initiators and its effects on the structural changes of PAN wereinvestigated. Easily accessible UV irradiation produced free radicals by breaking the C H bonding inPAN, leading to reducing cyclization temperature and activation energy. Dynamic mechanical analysisindicated a decrease in storage modulus of PANfibers with increasing UV irradiation time below glasstransition temperature. It is suggested that UV irradiation and the subsequent thermal treatment couldoffer an efficient stabilization by reducing the cyclization temperature and process time.

        Reading an Authorless Text

        『금병매』는 1595년 처음 필사본의 형태로 등장한 이래 그 저자에 대해 구체적으로 알려진 바가 없다. 본 논문은 『금병매』 필사본과 인쇄본의 서로 다른 수용 방식 비교를 통해 저자와 텍스트 의미 생산 관계를 분석하였다. 『금병매』가 필사본의 형태로 유통되었을 때 원굉도를 비롯한 고급 문인독자들은 저자의 정체성보다는 독자인 자신들이 어떤 방식으로 텍스트의 의미를 파악하는지에 관심을 기울였다. 텍스트의 의미를 저자의 의도에서 찾기보다는 독자들의 향유 방식에서 찾았던 것이다. 이와는 상반되게 1613년 『금병매』가 상업 출판되자, 출판가들과 평점가들의 주요 관심사는 『금병매』의 저자와 그 의도를 재구성하는 데 있었다. 인쇄본에서 재창조된 저자는 실제로 『금병매』를 창작한 개인이라기보다는 텍스트의 의미를 단일 통합시키는 구성 원리와 텍스트의 위상을 고양시키는 기호의 역할을 하며, 상업 출판된 『금병매』의 가치를 높이는 데 기여하였다. 필사본과 인쇄본 『금병매』의 서로 다른 수용에서 드러나는 저자 의미의 차이는 곧 저자란 텍스트와 불가분의 관계를 가지는 불변 고정적 존재가 아니라 독자 수용의 필요에 의해 끊임없이 재구성되는 텍스트적 의미의 한 부분이라는 것을 보여준다.
