This paper proposes automatic precision approach radar (PAR) control system using digital signal to increase the safety of aircraft, and discrete event systems specification (DEVS) methodology is utilized to verify the proposed system. Traditionally, a landing aircraft is controlled by the human voice of a final approach controller. However, the voice information can be missed during transmission, and pilots may also act improperly because of incorrectness of auditory signals. The proposed system enables the stable operation of the aircraft, regardless of the pilot's capability. Communicating DEVS (C-DEVS) is used to analyze and verify the behavior of the proposed system. A composed C-DEVS atomic model has overall composed discrete state sets of models, and the state sequence acquired through full state search is utilized to verify the safeness and the liveness of a system behavior. The C-DEVS model of the proposed system shows the same behavior with the traditional PAR control system.

Tonsillar lymphangiomatous polyp is an uncommon hamartomatous lesion that generally arises from the tonsillar surface. Due to the uncommon clinical and pathological features of these polyps, pathologist and clinician may experience difficulty in correctly classifying them. Although this is a rare clinical and pathologic entity for pathologists and clinicians, the diagnosis is not so difficult if one has a bit of experience about that. Recently, we experienced a 37-year-old women with a pale lymphangiomatous polyp of 3×1.5 cm size, which was treated by tonsillectomy. We report this case with a review of literature.

This study aims at probing ontological design elements of Louis Kahn architecture based on Heidegger theory which can explain the existence will through his design concepts. conclusively, Kahn′s ontological design elements could be analysed as silence, light, inspiration and institution, respectively, and they were ontologically explained.

Objectives: To assess the clinical efficacy of once-yearly treatment with Zoledronic acid in patients with osteopenia. Materials and Methods: From June 2009 to November 2011, patients diagnosed with osteopenia were applied to fracture risk assessment tool (FRAX). Among them, 40 patients who showed high possibility of osteoporotic fracture were selected and treated with intravenous zoledronic acid once-yearly. At the baseline and after one year of injection of zoledronate, we measured the changes in the bone mineral density (BMD) and bone turnover markersIn addition, we analyzed the side effects and thereby assessed the drug safety. Results: Mean 10 year probability of fracture calculated by FRAX tool was 4.2±1.8% for hip fracture, and 17.7±4.3% for other major osteoporotic fracture. Mean T-score was -1.89±0.42 at baseline and -1.71±±0.54 at 1 year after treatment. But this differences did not reachstatistical significance (P>0.05). Mean C-telopeptide levels were 0.35±±0.32 ng/mL and 0.22±±0.16 ng/mL, , mean osteocalcin levels were 13.64±5.15 ng/mL and 11.7±6.02 ng/mL before and after treatment. These differences reached a statistical significance (P<0.001). During the treatment, there were no serious adverse effects. Conclusions: Once-yearly treatment with Zoledronic acid was effective in reducing bone resorption in patients with osteopenia. In addition, the BMD levels were slightly increased. But this was not statistically significant. Further long-term follow-up studies are warranted to assess the efficacy of a once-yearly treatment with Zoledronic acid in patients with osteopenia.

Purpose: The extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) cannula has the potential for obstructing flow to the lower limb, thus causing severe ischemia and possible limb loss. We evaluated the safety and clinical efficacy of percutaneous distal perfusion catheterization in preventing limb ischemia. Materials and Methods: Between March 2013 and February 2015, 28 patients with distal perfusion catheterization after ECMO were included in this retrospective study. The technical success was evaluated by Doppler ultrasound at the popliteal level after saline injection via distal perfusion catheter. Clinical success was assessed when at least one of the following conditions was met: restoration of continuous peripheral limb oximetry value or presence of distal arterial pulse on Doppler ultrasound evaluation or resolution of early ischemic sign after connecting the catheter with ECMO. Results: Twenty-six patients with early ischemia were successfully cannulated with a distal perfusion catheter (92.8%). Clinical success was achieved in 12/28 (42.8%) patients; 8/10 (80.0%) patients with survival duration exceeding 7 days and 4/18 (22.2%) patients with survival duration less than 7 days, respectively. Conclusion: A percutaneous distal perfusion catheter placement was a feasible tool with safety and efficacy in preventing lower limb ischemia for patients with prolonged common femoral arterial cannulation for ECMO.
