Grasses (Poaceae) belong to the biggest plant family among angiosperms and it cover around 20% of the earth's surface. The members of this family are mostly utilized as food resources by humans and animals but they are also valuable in terms of evolution and ecology. The member of the subfamily Pooideae represents, temperate grasses, and includes a number of economically important crops and belongs to the clade BOP (including the subfamilies Bambooideae, Oryzeae, and Pooideae). This subfamily is the largest among all grass families. The special features of this subfamily are cold acclimation and vernalization. The members of Pooideae subfamily with the aforementioned special features are thought to have evolved in the Cenozoic era when the temperature on earth started to cool down, which triggered the diversification of this subfamily through adaptation to cold weather. The agricultural origin of wheat, barley, oat, and rye is attributed to fertile crescent and thereafter they were domesticated through Neolithic evolution. The history of domestication of each Pooideae crop is distinct and is based on their purpose. Recently, breeding of these crops is performed differently due to the development of new technologies such as genomics and genome editing. This review article summarizes the evolutionary history of the members of the subfamily Pooideae and use of pre-existing information for future breeding efforts.
Identification and characterization of a novel Wx-B1 allele in a waxy wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

The composition of starch, which includes amylose and amylopectin, greatly afects the quality and characteristics of four. The balance between these components is crucial in determining the properties and structure of starch. The waxy (Wx) gene encodes granule-bound starch synthase I (GBSSI), which is responsible for amylose biosynthesis in the endosperm. Gunji-3 was created through a cross between the waxy-type wheat cultivar Shinmichal 1 and the bread wheat cultivar Keumkang. Upon comparing the Wx-B1 allele encoding GBSSI in Gunji-3 with the Wx-B1 allele in Shinmichal 1 and Wx-B1b, a total of four SNPs and one deletion were identifed in Gunji-3. Additionally, when comparing amino acid sequences with Wx-B1 alleles, diferences at three positions were found, indicating that the mutant carried a new Wx-B1 allele named Wx-B1o. The physicochemical properties of Gunji-3 starch were characterized by a lower amylose content of 2.30% compared to 7.45% in Shinmichal 1 and 27.67% in Keumkang. Additionally, it exhibited a higher water retention capacity of 84.66% compared to 75.91% in Shinmichal 1 and 66.07% in Keumkang. The newly introduced waxy-type wheat could provide an essential basis for understanding wheat's starch characteristics and various breeding programs.

Pemphigus vulgaris is autoimmune disease characterized by acantholysis and blister formation in the skin and mucosa. The introduction of corticosteroids has greatly reduced mortality, and a number of immunosuppressive agents, such as azathioprine and cyclophosphamide are recommended as adjuncts to oral steroids. A 38-year-old female patient of pemphigus vulgaris has been managed with daily oral cyclophosphamide as adjunct to prednisolone for about 11 months, and then transfered to our department due to amenorrhea for 4 months. Hormonal profile of FSH, LH and estradiol revealed in postmenopausal range and follow-up results of hormonal profile were not changed, and amenorrhea continues for total 13 months until now. So we report a case of premature ovarian failure complicated by long-term oral administration of cyclophosphamide.
