        소 초유의 유효성분과 산업적 활용

        Bovine colostrum is necessary for newborn calves to survive, grow and receive immunity from their mother. Cows in Korea produce about 35kg of colostrum, 4Kg of which is fed to the calf, and the rest is discarded. The bovine colostrum causes the harmful side effects to human, such as allergies and digestive problems; so, it is prohibited by law to consume colostrum itself as a food. However, many scientific research data have suggested that components in the colostrum can improve human health and has the ability to help treat diseases. In line with the trend of food and pharmacy industries using natural product materials, which attract positive attention, recently, some ingredients in colostrum have been used in the production of food supplements, and it has been used in its raw form in some cosmetics. This review introduces the active ingredients and physiologically active substances contained in bovine colostrum, summarizes the efficacy of physiological enhancement of the colostrum, which has been proven by scientific methods to date, and also suggests the possibility of industrial applications of colostrum as an animal-derived natural material.

        Changing Molecular Epidemiology of Group B Streptococcus in Korea

        The prevalence of group B streptococcus (GBS) among pregnant women and disease burdens in neonates and adults are increasing in Korea. Colonizing isolates,collected by screening pregnant women (n=196), and clinical isolates collected from clinical patients throughout Korea (n=234), were serotyped and screened for antibiotic resistance. Serotype III (29.8%) and V (27.7%) predominated, followed by Ia (17.0%). Antibiotic resistance was higher among clinical than colonizing isolates for erythromycin (35.1% and 26.9%; P=0.10) and for clindamycin (49.4% and 42.1%;P=0.17). erm(B) occurred in 91.9% of erythromycin resistant isolates, and 84.0%of isolates resistant to clindamycin. Only five isolates (4.2%) resistant to erythromycin were susceptible to clindamycin; by contrast, and unique to Korea, 34% of isolates resistant to clindamycin were erythromycin susceptible. Among these 60 erythromycin-susceptible & clindamycin-resistant isolates, 88% was serotype III, and lnu(B)was found in 89% of strains. Four fifths of the serotype V isolates were resistant to both erythromycin and clindamycin. Further characterization of the genetic assembly of these resistance conferring genes, erm(B) and lnu(B), will be useful to establish the clonal lineages of multiple resistance genes carrying strains.

        This study was carried out to investigate the influence of benzo(a)pyrene-environmental toxicant-on intestinal bacterial growth. As the results are the growth of E.coli was inhibi-ted in proportion to concentration of benzy(a)pyrene and its effect was most remarkable at exponential phase.

      • 흡입물질의 위생학적 연구 : 본드 흡입이 흰쥐의 폐 및 기타 장기의 효소 활성에 미치는 영향 The Effect of Bond Inhalation on the Enzyme Activity of Lung and Other Organs in Rat

        Toluene, alcohol및 vinylester류 등을 함유하고 있는 bond를 이용하여 휘발성 물질이 생체에미치는 영향을 관찰하기 위하여 rat에 일정 농도의 bond를 일정 시간 흡입시킨 뒤 각 조직에대하여 효소의 생화학적 시험과 celluloseacetate electrophoresis를 실시하여 다음과 같은 결과를얻었다. 1. Bond 흡입은 시간이 증가함에 따라 혈청, 심장, 신장, 근육, 뇌의 ChE 활성을 억제하였으며특히 폐와 간장의 ChE활성에 가장 큰 영향을 나타내었다. 2. Bond 흡입에 의해 혈청 및 각 조직 중에서 LDH활성이 증가되었으며 특히 폐와 심장,근육에서 그 영향이 현저히 나타났다. 3. Celluloseacetate electrophoresis를 통한 각 조직의 LDH isozyme pattern에는 차이가 나타났으며 bond 흡입에 의해 band의 소멸과 선명도의 감소가 일어 났는데 특히 폐에 대한 독성이가장 현저했으며 근육에 대한 독성도 큰 것으로 나타났다. Acute poisoning with organic solvents and other volatile compou-nds now usually follows deliberate inhalation(volatile substance abuse) or inges-tion of these compounds. The effect of bond inhalation was analyzed for serum, liver, lung, brain,heart, kidney and muscle. And the observations are revealed on rat cholinesterase activity, lactatedeh-ydrogenase activity and electrophoretic pattern of lactatedehydrogenase isozyme. The results are as follows ; 1. The rat cholinesterase activity on serum, heart, muscle, kidney and brain showthe decrease by increasing of inhalation time of bond, in particular the lungand liver cholinesterase activity was greatly affected. 2. Bond inhalation brough out the lactatedehydrogenase activity increased ofthe serum and the tissues and had an important effect especially in both thelung and muscle lactatedehydrogenase activities. 3. Each tissue was found to have a characteristic distribution of lactatedehydro-genase isozymes on celluloseacetate elelctrophoresis and the development ofinhalation time is shown the disappearence and diffusion of band.

        Ratio of Mediastinal Lymph Node SUV to Primary Tumor SUV in 18F-FDG PET/CT for Nodal Staging in Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer

        Purpose Following determination of the maximum standardizeduptake values (SUVmax) of the mediastinal lymph nodes(SUV-LN) and of the primary tumor (SUV-T) on 18F-FDGPET/CT in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC), the aim of the study was to determine the valueof the SUV-LN/SUV-T ratio in lymph node staging in comparisonwith that of SUV-LN. Methods We retrospectively reviewed a total of 289 mediastinallymph node stations from 98 patients with NSCLC whowere examined preoperatively for staging and subsequentlyunderwent pathologic studies of the mediastinal lymph nodes. We determined SUV-LN and SUV-R for each lymph nodestation on 18F-FDG PET/CT and then classified each stationinto one of three groups based on SUV-T (low, medium andhigh SUV-T groups). Diagnostic performance was assessedbased on receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis,and the optimal cut-off values that would best discriminatemetastatic from benign lymph nodes were determined foreach method. Results The average of SUV-R of malignant lymph nodes wassignificantly higher than that of benign lymph nodes (0.79± 0.45 vs. 0.36± 0.23, P<0.0001). In the ROC curve analysis,the area under the curve (AUC) of SUV-R was significantlyhigher than that of SUV-LN in the low SUV-T group (0.885vs. 0.810, P= 0.019). There were no significant differencesbetween the AUCs of SUV-LN and of SUV-R in the mediumand high SUV-T groups. The optimal cut-off value for SUV-Rin the low SUV-T group was 0.71 (sensitivity 87.5 %, specificity85.9 %). Conclusions The SUV-R performed well in distinguishingbetween metastatic and benign lymph nodes. In particular,SUV-R was found to have a better diagnostic performancethan SUV-LN in the low SUV-T group.

        프로폴리스와 벌꿀 섭취로 인해 유도되는 노랑초파리의 생리학적 변화

        Propolis and honey are beekeeping products and are widely used as health supplements for humans. Previous studies have shown that propolis and honey have various physiological properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial effects. In order to investigate the physiological response induced by propolis and honey, including developmental time (larval and pupal periods), reproductivity, and adult lifespan (both male and female), we treated Drosophila melanogaster, a representative model organism, with these beekeeping products. We observed alterations in developmental time, adult longevity, and reproductivity in D. melanogaster treated with either propolis or honey. Interestingly, when honey or propolis induces an increase in oviposition, the survival rate of female adults tended to decrease. However, when female D. melanogaster were fed with propolis the oviposition rate remained constant and, the extended longevity was observed. In this study, we provided insight into the physiological activity of honey and propolis through the Drosophila model, and future follow-up studies are expected to elucidate their molecular physiological mechanisms.

        밀가루를 대체한 다양한 종류의 쌀가루 머핀의 품질특성 및 항산화 효과

        밀가루를 대체하여 백미, 흑미, 홍국 분말을 첨가한 머핀의 품질특성 및 항산화를 측정하기 위하여 쌀 분말 50%를 첨가하여 머핀을 제조하였다. 머핀의 pH는 밀가루 머핀에서 가장 높았으며 홍국 머핀에서 낮은 경향을 보였다. 머핀의 높이 및 부피는 밀가루 머핀에서 가장 높았고, 부피는 백미, 흑미, 홍국 머핀 순으로 감소했다. 색도 측정 결과 명도값은 밀가루 머핀에서 가장 높았으며 흑미와 홍국 머핀에서 낮은 수치를 보였다. 적색도는 홍국 머핀에서 가장 높았으며 밀가루 머핀과 백미 머핀에서 가장 낮은 수치를 보였다. 황색도는 밀가루 머핀과 백미 머핀에서 유사했으며 홍국과 흑미 머핀 순으로 낮은 수치를 나타냈다. 텍스처를 측정한 결과, 탄력성과 응집성은 군 간의 유의적 차이가 나타나지 않았으며 검성과 씹힘성은 홍국 머핀에서 가장 높은 값을 나타내어 홍국의 첨가가 머핀의 쫀득거리는 맛을 강화한 것이라고 보이며 홍국 머핀의 씹힘성 증가는 밀가루를 대체하여 글루텐 저하와 아밀로스를 증가시키는 것으로 보인다. DPPH 라디칼 소거 활성과 SOD 활성 측정 결과는 홍국과 흑미 머핀이 밀가루 머핀에 비해 높게 나타났으며, ABTS 라디칼 소거 활성 측정 결과, 백미와 홍국 머핀에서 높은 항산화 활성을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 머핀 제조 시 밀가루를 백미, 흑미, 홍국 분말을 이용하여 대체 할 수 있으며 좋은 기능성 식품으로서 역할을 할 것임을 보여주었다. This study investigates the quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of muffins prepared using various kinds of rice powder. Muffins were prepared by adding 50% white rice, black rice or red yeast rice powders, thereby replacing wheat flour in the basic formulation. Wheat flour muffins had the maximum height and volume. The lightness value of black rice and red yeast rice muffins was lower than that of the wheat flour muffins. Redness was the highest for red yeast rice muffins. The 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazy (DPPH) radical scavenging and superoxide dismutase (SOD)- like activities activity of black rice and red yeast rice muffins were higher than those of the wheat flour muffins. The 2,2- azino-bis-(3-ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging activity of red yeast rice muffin was also higher than that of the wheat flour muffins. Thus, the black and red yeast rice powders can be effectively used as functional ingredients in bakeries due to their antioxidant activities.
