The modem society has increased the needs for both public benefits of forests and the economic functions of forest products. The increased public interest and concern for forests have been resulted from rapid growth of urban population, high industrialization, deterioration of environment, and etc. It is essential to evaluate the productive and environmantal functions of forests with a scientific criteria. The purpose of this study is to introduce the scientific evaluation method of such functions of forests, and to discuss its uses and limitations.

In recent years, forests have widely used to recreation space related to the tertiary industry from timber production in the past so that the necessities of various forest management are increasing to achieve more various stands based on the preference. To manage the most desirable stand, it is needed to know current stand characteristics, growth, the factors influencing to stand structure and the prediction of future stand. The objectives of this study are to carry out the decision making about management regimes throughout computer simulations on personal computer which is able to realize stand growth and stand spatial structure according to different silviculture treatments. This program was operated in Window 98 & ME 2000 and made with Visual basic 6.0. To display 3-D graph, OpenGL 1.1(API) based on C-language was used. The developed program was carried to simulate the stand with individual tree growth model with thinning and to manage for users to investigate the 3-D stand spatial structure on various angle at the simulated results.
자료 연결방법의 조작을 통한 GIS응용 프로그램의 개발

It is necessary to construct an effective regional information system in facing the incoming information intensive society. Many local government in Korea began to recognize a need for constructing a GIS(Geographic Information System) and they are planning to construct GIS´s to improve their administrative efficiency. However, ti requires high-priced hardware, software, and an experienced operator to sue a GIS effectively. The purpose of this study is to develop the GIS program which can be sued with ease by common users. By developing a GIS functioned program using a coordinate recognition module by application of geo-spatial data, and a digital map which is already made, this program can be used efficiently only by only inputting attributes without high-priced hardware and software, and can be utilized easily to every purposes of work with geo-spatial data and attributes. MapObjects, mapping and GIS component, was employed to use geo-spatial data, and Access 97 from Microsoft to manage and attributes database. Visual Basic, objected-oriented language, was used to develop an application program. Results of this study were applied to constructing the Information system of Kanwon National University. This program could be used for various purposed by common users without additional hardware and software.

Three theoretical growth equations, i.e., the Mitscherlich, the Gompertz, and the Logistic equation, were applied to the radical stem growth of 50 jack pines (Pinus banksiana Lamb.).For the determination of the parameters in these equations, NELDER-MEAD's method was used, which is one of the direct-search methods of optimization. It has been known to be very convenient in dealing with the issues related to optimization, specifically where the number of parameters are less than 6. It was found that although all the equations did not appropriately work as expected, the Mitscherlich equation revealed the least discrapancy from the obsered value among three. Using these equations and the first certain period data, i. e., 35, 55, 75 years, the predection of radius of age 95 was investigated. Comparing to the observed value, the most valid equation was the Mitscherlich, and the next were the Gompertz and the Logistic, in order.

This study is to show an example of applying this program to the Tourism Information System of ChunChon. It materialize the function of this program by using MapObjects, mapping and GIS component, process geo-spatial data and attributes as a database system with Access 97 of Microsoft. To develop application program language, use Visual Basic, objected-oriented language. The purpose of this study is two-fold. One is to develope a program be supported by GIS functions. The other is to show the way by which this program is easily applied to TIS(Tourism Information System).
