Purpose The Korean National Cancer Screening Survey (KNCSS), a nationwide, annual crosssectional survey, has been conducted since 2004. The current study was conducted in order to report on trends in cancer screening rates for five types of cancer (stomach, liver, colorectal, breast, and cervix uteri). Materials and Methods KNCSS data were collected between 2004 and 2012. The eligible study population included cancer-free men who were 40 years of age and older and women who were 30 years of age and older. The lifetime screening rate, screening rate with recommendation, and changes in annual rates were calculated. Results Lifetime screening rates and screening rates with recommendation for the five types of cancer rose steadily until 2010, showed a slight drop or were stable in 2011, and increased again in 2012. On average, screening rates with recommendation have shown annual increases of 4.3% (95% confidence interval [CI], 3.6 to 5.0%) for stomach cancer, 0.8% (95% CI, –0.5 to 2.1%) for liver cancer, 2.4% (95% CI, 1.3 to 3.5%)for colorectal cancer, 4.5% (95% CI, 3.9 to 5.1%) for breast cancer, and 1.3% (95%CI, 0.6 to 2.0%) for cervical cancer. Disparities in age groups and household incomes have been decreasing since 2004. Conclusion Cancer screening rates in Korea showed a significant increase from 2004 to 2012,and screening rates for gastric and breast cancer are now approaching 70%. The 10-Year Plan for Cancer Control target for screening rates was met or nearly met for all cancer types examined, with the exception of liver and colorectal cancer.
Degree of Brain Connectivity Predicts Eye-Tracking Variability
서민아,Rachel A. Kolster,Sumit Niogi,Bruce D. McCandliss,Richard B. Ivry,Henning U. Voss,Ranjeeta Sarkar,Jamshid Ghajar 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.53 No.6
Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is commonly associated with diffse axonal injury (DAI), as well as performance variability and attention and working memory deficits. A visual tracking task with concurrent working memory loading may induce differential effects on performance variability among mTBI patients with varying degrees of DAI and therefore different degrees of brain connectivity. Using a multi-linear regression technique, we examined correlations between white matter integrity as detected by magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging and eye tracking variability under a working memory load in mTBI patients. The impact of increased working memory load on tracking variability was correlated with the degree of white matter integrity. Our results suggest that eye tracking variability under working memory loading may be used to assess the degree of DAI in mTBI patients.

Purpose The Korean National Cancer Screening Survey (KNCSS), a nationwide cross-sectional survey, has been conducted annually since 2004. The current study was conducted to report on the trends in screening rates among Korean men and women, and to evaluate policies regarding cancer screening programs implemented to reduce the burden of cancer. Materials and Methods The current study used KNCSS data. The eligible study population included men aged 40-74 years and women aged 30-74 years with no cancer history. The lifetime screening rate, screening rate with recommendation, and changes in annual rates were calculated for five major cancers (i.e., stomach, liver, colorectal, breast, and cervix uteri). Results The screening rates with recommendation increased by 4.2% (95% confidence interval [CI], 3.7% to 4.8%) annually for stomach cancer, 1.2% (95% CI, 0.1% to 2.4%) for liver cancer, 3.0% (95% CI, 1.8% to 4.1%) for colorectal cancer, 3.7% (95% CI, 2.7% to 4.8%) for breast cancer, and 1.3% (95% CI, 0.8% to 1.8%) for cervical cancer. In 2013, the screening rates with recommendation for stomach, liver, colorectal, breast, and cervical cancers were 73.6%, 33.6%, 55.6%, 59.7%, and 67.0%, respectively. Conclusion Both the lifetime screening rates and screening rates with recommendation for the five above-mentioned cancers increased annually from 2004 to 2013.
Association Between Body Mass Index and Asthma Symptoms Among Korean Children: A Nation-Wide Study
서민아,김호현,최동필,김경원,손명현,하경화,황원주,김창수,김규언,신동천,박수경,강대희 대한의학회 2011 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.26 No.12
The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between body mass index (BMI)and the prevalence of wheeze using nation-wide cross-sectional study in Korean children. Total 50,200 children from 427 elementary schools were randomly selected according to residential areas (metropolitan, provincial, rural, and industrial areas) by the cluster sampling method. The International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC)questionnaires were used to measure the prevalence of wheeze. Among 31,026respondents, 25,322 were analyzed. BMI was classified into quartiles based on BMI-forage percentile. In all residential areas, pets at home and visible mold or moisture were associated with an increased prevalence of wheeze in both genders. However, other living environment factors were not consistently associated among residential areas and gender. Among girls, lowest BMI was negatively associated with prevalence of wheeze and highest BMI was positively associated in all residential areas. In multilevel logistic regression analysis, environmental tobacco smoking exposure, pets at home, visible mold or moisture, and being in the lowest and highest BMI quartile were significantly associated with the prevalence of wheeze in both genders. BMI has become an important risk factor for asthma symptoms among Korean children.
