Merge of Sub-images from Two PAN CCD lines of Kompsat-3 AEISS
2016 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.20 No.2
The Kompsat-3 Advanced Earth Imaging Sensor System (AEISS) camera contains two PAN CCD lines for a larger swath width. Merge of sub-images from individual CCD lines requires precise camera calibration before launch as well as in-flight calibration with a number of ground control points to determine the geometric relations between the CCD lines. Even with accurately determined sensor alignment parameters, there can still be exterior effects such as those associated with the ephemeris and terrain elevation. We generated a grid of tie points over the sub-images based on the physical sensor modelling and then evaluated the impacts of sensor alignment, ephemeris effects, and terrain elevation on the coordinate differences between the tie points. This enabled us to develop a procedure to precisely merge the sub-images into a single image. An experiment with three Kompsat-3 images produced successful results and displayed negligible image discrepancy in the overlap area.
Vol.37 No.-
In digital processing of remotely sensed image data, digital mosaicking is required for display and analysis of large regions covered by more than one image. In this paper, digital mosaic process for any given multisensor data set of Landsat Thematic Mapper(TM) and SPOT multispectral(XS) data has been described. A statistical normalization was implemented to reduce radiometric discontinuity 새 the multisensor and multidata reflectance. An automated digital matching technique was used to find the corresponding ground control points in the overlapped area and to generate more geometrically accurate mosaic image.

The Korea Multi-Purpose SATellite-2 (KOMPSAT-2) is to provide 1.0 m Ground Sample Distance (GSD) panchromatic image and 4.0 m GSD multi-spectral image data for various applications. The KOMPSAT-2 system performs mission applications in the field of earth observations, covering land, sea, coastal zones, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The purpose of this document is to compute ground coordinate using satellite position, velocity and attitude data in KOMPSAT-2 and document for work-flow of location accuracy correction in KOMPSAT-2.

Vol.36 No.6
The LEOP Cal/Val (Launch and Early Operation Phase Calibration/Validation) was carried out during 6 months after KOMPSAT-3A (KOMPSAT-3A Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-3A) was launched in March 2015. After LEOP Cal/Val was successfully completed, high resolution KOMPSAT-3A has been successfully distributing to users over the past 8 years. The sub-meter high-resolution satellite image data obtained from KOMPSAT-3A is used as basic data for qualitative and quantitative information extraction in various fields such as mapping, GIS (Geographic Information System), and national land management, etc. The KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute) periodically checks and manages the quality of KOMPSAT-3A’s product and the characteristics of satellite hardware to ensure the accuracy and reliability of information extracted from satellite data of KOMPSAT-3A. To minimize the deterioration of image quality due to aging of satellite hardware, payload and attitude sensors of KOMPSAT-3A, continuous improvement of image quality has been carried out. In this paper, the Cal/Val work-flow defined in the KOMPSAT-3A development phase was illustrated for the period of before and after the launch. The MTF, SNR, and location accuracy are the key parameters to estimate image quality and the methods of the measurements of each parameter are also described in this work. On the basis of defined quality parameters, the performance was evaluated and measured during the period of after LEOP Cal/Val. The current status and characteristics of MTF, SNR, and location accuracy of KOMPSAT-3A from 2016 to May 2020 were described as well.
