Kikuchi’s disease and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) present different clinical characteristics, especially in prognosis, although both diseases have the clinical similarity in initial presentations. Kikuchi’s disease usually has a self-limiting clinical course, but HLH can be fatal. Accordingly, it is important that the differential diagnoses and decision as to initial treatment be made as soon as possible, at the time of clinical presentation. In the case of Kikuchi’s disease accompanied with HLH, the decision concerning initial treatment can be very difficult, because these cases have been rarely reported and the prognosis is unpredictable. We report a case of a 21-year-old female diagnosed with Kikuchi’s disease accompanied with HLH. Treatment involved steroid therapy, as for treatment of HLH. Recovery was complete. Kikuchi’s disease with HLH can be completely treated with more aggressive therapy than used for Kikuchi’s disease alone.
한국산 소맥분에 대한 L-Ascorbic Acid의 작용에 관한 연구

The action of L-Ascorbic Acid on ten korean wheat varieties showed a wide range of changing patterns; from molecular level to rheological properties. Authors have got following results from the careful investigation of dough properties treated. The differences in wheat cultivars were identified by the number and position of polypeptide subunits on the electropherogram and all cultivars revealed the quality of soft wheat varieties. The Gliadine proteins were separated into 4 subfractions on Sephadex G-100 chromatography. The elution velocity and solubility were improved through the treatment of L-Ascorbic Acid. The SDSPAGE of fraction c showed significant changes in the range of 24-36 KD and they are assumed to be derived from the polypeptide interactions during the dough-development. The specific loaf volume and texture of bread crumbs were also improved by the action of L-Ascorbic Acid.

고추올레오레진의 제조시 에탄올농도와 추출 온도 및 추출회수에 따른 수율, capsaicine함량, 색도의 변화를 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 즉, (1) 에탄올농도가 낮을수록 올레오레진의 수율은 증가하는 경향을 보였으며 capsaicne함량과 색도의 경우는 에탄올농도가 높을수록 추출율이 증가하였다. (2) 95% 에탄올을 추출용매로 하여 올레오레진을 제조시 수율은 추출온도가 높아질수록 증가하는 경향을 보였으나 capsaicine의 경우 추출온도가 증가함에 따라 추출율이 감소하였으며 색도는 추출율이 계속 증가하는 경향을 보였다. (3) 추출회수의 영향을 보면 수율은 1,2차 추출시 추출온도가 높을수록 증가하는 경향을 보였으며 3차 추출시는 거의 일정하였다. capsaicine함량은 추출회수와 추출온도가 증가할수록 감소하는 경향을 보였고 색도는 추출회수가 증가할수록 높아지는 경향을 보였으나 80℃이상의 고온에서는 오히려 감소하는 결과를 나타내었다. This experiment was carried out to study on the effects of ethanol concentration, extraction temperature and times on extration in the preparation of red pepper oleoresin(RPO). The yield, capsaicine content and color unit were analyzed in RPO. The yield of RPO was good at low ethanol concentration, but capsaicine content and color unit were increased when the ethanol concentration is high. When 95% ethanol was used to be a solvent to get RPO, the yield increased as the extraction temperature went up. But in teh case of capaicine, the extraction ratio decreased and the color unit increased as the extraction temperature went up. According to the extraction frequency, the yield of 1st and 2nd extraction increased as the extraction temperature went up but that of 3rd extraction was constant. The content of capsaicine decreased as the extraction temperature went up. And the color unit increased as the extraction frequency went up but it decreased above 80℃ adversely.
Influence of severe drought on mineral nutrient status in eastern white pine (Pinus strobus L)

The photochemical process of photosynthesis is significantly influenced by the availability of nutrients. The purpose of this research is to ascertain how photosynthetic pigment function is affected by nutrient elemental changes caused by severe drought stress. Using elemental analysis, we looked at the changes in mineral nutrient composition in eastern white pine (Pinus strobus L) seedlings 32 days after drought treatment. According to our findings, severe drought resulted in a significant and non-significant decrease in the contents of Chl “b and a”, respectively. The elemental composition of iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), magnesium (Mg), potas- sium (K), phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) was measured. After severe drought treatment, leaf nutrient status showed a significant decline in total N (control-1.57 ± 0.1; drought- 0.65 ± 0.07), P (control-959.4 ± 17; drought-645 ± 46), Mg (control-1030.4 ± 33; drought- 750.7 ± 76), and K (control-3062.5 ± 32; drought-1853.3 ± 198), with a non-significant decrease in leaf Fe (control-120.3 ± 20; drought-98.9 ± 28) and increase in leaf Zn (control-33.49 ± 2; drought-39.05 ± 4). A positive correlation was found between the content of Fe, P, Mg, K, and N in leaf Chl “b”, but only a positive correlation was found between the content of Zn in leaf Chl “a” during severe drought. During severe drought, nutrient reallocation has a sig- nificant impact on leaf chlorophyll levels, as evidenced by this correlation.

The blast phase in chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is associated with mutation of several genes. It is well known that p53 gene mutation plays a key role in the myeloid or lymphoid blast phase of CML. But for the case of the N-ras gene, the association between N-ras mutations and the blast phase of CML is not yet known. We report here on a case of detecting N-ras point mutation without p53 mutation in a 64 year-old man who suffered from the lymphoblastic blast phase of CML.
항 TNF 차단제로 치료한 고령에서 발생한 강직성척추염 증례

고령에서 발생한 강직성척추염은 일반적으로 젊은 연령에 비하여 비전형적인 증상들과 고령에서의 퇴행성 변화 및 다른 근골격계 질환의 동반으로 진단이 어렵다. 본원에서 고령에서 다양한 증상으로 발현하여 강직성척추염으로 진단된 4개의 증례들의 임상 양상 및 검사 소견을 이전 연구들과 비교하였으며, NSAIDs, 부신피질호르몬제, DMARDs로 증상과 검사소견의 호전이 없었으나, TNF 차단제를 사용 후 뚜렷한 부작용 없이 호전을 보여 보고하는 바이다. Ankylosing spondylitis is a disease that shows a young age of onset (less than 40 years old), inflammatory back pain, sacroiliitis and a strong association with HLA-B27. Yet some recently reported cases have presented with a late age of onset (more than 55 years old), atypical clinical presentations and a low response to NSAIDs, and this has also been named late onset spondyloarthropathy (LOSPA). As compared with early onset spondyloarthropathy (EOSPA), the LOSPA patients more frequently suffer with combined peripheral arthritis and inflammatory systemic symptoms and a high ESR and CRP level, but they lack the typical axial symptoms. Yet there have been few reports about late onset ankylosing spondylitis (LOAS). The previous cases of LOSPA and LOAS were managed with NSAIDs, steroids, methotrexate and sulfasalazine, but none were managed with TNF antagonists. LOAS is rare and difficult for management because of the patients` older age and the lack of experiences with this malady, so we report here on the four cases of LOAS that were successfully treated by TNF antagonists.
