MSC.FlightLoads
Vol.2013 No.11
The MSC.FlightLoads commercial software was introduced to analyze the flight loads for the turboprop regional aircraft. The FlightLoads software is useful so that flexible airloads can be analyzed as well as the analyses of dynamics and structural integrity are connected with the FlightLoads. The rigid airloads from the ARGON which are the loads analysis software owned in KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) and FlightLoads are compared and evaluated. The camber effects of airfoils along the wing span are also realized and evaluated. Therefore, the MSC.FlightLoads aerodynamic model and input parameters for the regional aircraft are validated.

In preliminary design phase, the wing geometry of the civil aircraft was determined using the empirical equation and historical data. To make wing geometry more aerodynamically efficient, an aerodynamic shape optimization was conducted. For this purpose the parametric modeling, high fidelity CFD analysis and metamodel-based optimal design technique were adopted. The parametric modeling got the design process to achieve the improvement by generating the configuration outputs easily for the major design variables. The optimal design equations were formularized as the type of the multi-objective functions considering low/high speed and lift/drag coefficient. The optimal solution was explored with the help of the kriging metamodel and the desirability function, therefore the optimal wing planform was sought to be excellent at both low and high speed region. Additionally the optimal wing planform was validated that it was excellent not only at the specific AOA, but also all over the range of AOA.

Inlet hammershock is the critical loads condition for designing the inlet duct structure of a fighter. The sudden flow reduction in engine compressor causes inlet hammershock with high pressure. The traditional method was used to combine extreme conditions (maximum speed, sea level altitude, and cold day) to analyze this compression wave inlet hammershock pressure. However, after the 90s there have been papers that presented the probabilistic approach for the inlet hammershock to achieve the appropriate design pressure. This study shows how to analyze the inlet hammershock pressure by making practical use of the Republic of Korea Air Force real flight usage data under probabilistic approach and then analyze approximately 30% decreased inlet hammershock pressure compared with the traditional valve.

When an abnormal landing occurs, aircraft structures should be designed to guarantee occupants survivability without preventing egress. To find out fire root causes at crash, lots of fixed aircraft crash tests were conducted. Appropriate crash load factors were established with the comprehension of structural behavior based on dynamic analysis and investigation of human tolerance. Cargo restraint criteria were set up considering passengers safety and operational cost while analyzing past cargo aircraft accident data using a probabilistic approach. Reviewing results of past crash tests, current crash landing load factor was appreciated physically, medically, and economically.
