The mechanical integrity of generator stator windings is one of the critical point because the electric power is generated and conducted to power system through these windings. To cool down the heat emitted from generator winding during its operation, a majority of generators use de-mineralized water characterized by high cooling efficiency. Contrary to such the excellent cooling efficiency, however, the damaged bar insulations attributed to the absorption of cooling water in the generator stator winding lead to highly time- and cost consuming efforts as well as to service deterioration due to unexpected forced outage of generator. It is described that the new design of water absorption sensor using cross capacitance for generator in power plant in order to increase the reliability of water absorption diagnostics for generator stator bar insulation.

An unwanted outage of power unit can be occurred by significant insulation damage due to water absorption for generator stator bars. Reliable absorption test and diagnostics of water cooled generator stator bars are important to ensure the availability of power plant and to reduce maintenance cost by generator accident. It is described that the test method and the several stochastic evaluation methods for generator stator bar absorption. It is evaluated that the suggested methods can be used for reliable water absorption diagnosis of bar insulation by analysing the actual test result for generator stator bars in power plant.

디젤엔진은 기동 정지 시간이 빠르고 내구성과 신뢰성이 높아 대용량 발전소의 비상 발전기뿐 아니라 제한된 도서지역의 발전용으로 유용하게 사용되고 있다. 그러나 디젤엔진에 고진동이 발생될 경우 엔진 구조물 자체의 손상뿐 아니라 운전 신뢰성을 저해하는 요소가 될 수 있다. 본 논문은 고진동으로 인하여 수년간 출력을 감발하여 운전되었던 대형 발전용 디젤엔진의 고 진동 원인을 분석하기 위하여 수행한 시험 및 해석과 대책 수립에 대하여 기술하였다. 진동의 원인으로는 발전기 축의 비틀림 가진으로 인한 엔진 구조물의 공진으로 분석되었으며 수립된 대책을 시뮬레이션 후 실제 발전소에 적용하여 양호한 진동 저감 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. Diesel engines are widely used as power supplies for isolated islands as well as emergency power supplies for large-capacity power plants because of their rapid response to operation, high reliability, and good durability. However, diesel engines are also vulnerable to damage or degradation of reliability when high levels of vibration are generated in them. This paper shows experiments and analysis for the determination of the causes of high-vibration phenomena in large-scale diesel engines, which have experienced various power decreases over several years because of the high levels of vibration. The main cause of the vibration is identified as the resonance created by the torsional vibration of its crank axis, and the appropriate countermeasures that were designed worked well when applied in field tests.
500㎿급 화력 발전기 냉각수 온도에 따른 고정자 권선 절연재의 흡습 특성에 관한 실험적 연구

The mechanical integrity of generator stator windings is one of the critical point because the electric power is generated and conducted to power system through these windings. De-mineralized water is used to cool stator bars during the normal operation of generator in large power plants because the water cooled method has highest cooling efficient. Water absorption of bar insulation is progressed by several causes such as generation of water leak path by corrosion, delamination of insulation by vibration, and inadequate water treatment, etc.. Reliable water absorption diagnostics of generator stator bar is important to ensure the availability of power plant and to reduce maintenance cost by generator accident. It is described that the water absorption characteristics for generator stator bar insulation used in 500㎿ capacity standard fossil power plant by cooling water temperature. It is verified that the management of stator cooling water temperature is one of the important factors to decrease water absorption rate of generator stator bars.
