Osmotic pressure induced by semi-permeability of hardened cement mortar was studied. An apparatus which is composed of two cells was developed to measure osmotic pressure and pressure diffusion. Three kinds of mortar disks of which the water cement ratio are 45, 60 and 75%, were adopted as test specimens. Their osmotic pressure and pressure diffusion were measured at 30℃, and the following results were obtained. (1) Pressure diffuses with time in hardened cement mortar, and the behavior of pressure diffusion is affected by given hydraulic pressure and properties of cement mortar. (2) The generation of osmotic pressure is closely related with properties of pressure diffusion, thereby, the lower the rate of pressure diffusion is, the higher osmotic pressure can be expected. (3) Hardened cement mortar may be considered to be a semi-permeable membrane of which the reflection coefficient ranges are 0.002 to 0.140.
