This study aims at examining the effective application of task-based and integrated language learning for developing English reading ability and motivation in high school classrooms in Korea. 141 high school students were selected as subjects and divided into two groups. For 10 weeks, the subjects in the experimental group were given lessons using task-based and integrated language learning while those in the control group were given lessons using English reading strategies. This study reached the conclusion that task-based and integrated language learning was helpful for improving English reading ability and had positive effects on inducing students' interests to study English. However, teachers need to be more cautious in selecting tasks and proceeding the process to motivate students, and make sure that preparatory activities should be done before reading passages. If continuous efforts are made by teachers and better organized lesson plans are prepared, teachers can come up with more effective and positive results.
