‘Jonathan’ apples are relatively small size which contributes to enhancing fruit consumption and gaining popularity. Thus, this study was carried out to evaluate the effects of AVG (aminoethoxyvinylglycine, ReTain®), sprayable 1-MCP (1-methylcyclopropene, HarvistaTM), and fumigation 1-MCP (SmartFreshTM) applications on fruit quality attributes and storability in ‘Jonathan’ apple fruits during cold-stored. The Jonathan fruits were dipped with either ReTain (75 mg/L) or Harvista (125 mg/L) solutions for 5 min, or fumigated with SmartFresh (1 mg/L) for 18 hr before storage at 0±1℃ for 75 days. Flesh firmness and titratable acidity remained higher in all pre-treated apples than control ones during cold storage period. Flesh firmness was higher for apples treated with ReTain and SmartFresh than samples treated with Harvista, while soluble solid content and respiration rate were not affected by sample pretreatment. Internal ethylene concentration (IEC) of all pretreated apples remained below about 4.5 μL/L during the entire storage period while that of control sample greatly increased to 10.29 μL/L. Ethylene production was much higher in control fruits than in treated ones during cold storage. These results indicated that ReTain and 1-MCP treatments would be considerably effective in retention of fruit quality attributes of ‘Jonathan’ apple during cold-stored.

Cervical metastasis of squamous cell carcinoma from an unknown primary site occurs in approximately 2–4% of head and neck tumor cases.Without identification of the primary site, propermanagement cannot be achieved, resulting in significant morbidity and a lower cure rate. For the primary site assessment, positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) using the radiotracer 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) is the imaging modality of choice and has been shown to be superior to CT alone. Here, we report a case of cervical metastasis of squamous cell carcinoma in an 82-year-old man. 18F-FDG PET/CT revealed a tongue-base lesion, although neck CT detected no lesions because of artifacts from dental prosthesis, which was suspected as the primary site. The final diagnosis was confirmed as tongue-base cancer with neck lymph node metastases through biopsy. These results suggest that 18F-FDG PET/CT is a valuable diagnostic tool in patients with cervical metastatic lymph nodes because it can demonstrate primary tumors in patients with dental prosthesis.

The purpose of this study is to look at the features seen in Ukiyo-e, to understand traditional Japanese costumes, and then to develop new, contemporary fashion designs using both as sources of creative inspiration. As a research method, literature was first reviewed on the social and cultural background of the Edo period and the characteristics of Ukiyo-e and beauty paintings. Then, 108 works were selected for the study by extracting Ukiyo-e artwork from websites and books. The analysis showed that broad collar and rounded sleeves were used frequently, as were plant patterns and geometric patterns. Reds and yellows were the most common colors. Obi most commonly featured geometric patterns, and yellow and red colors were used to show similarities or contrasting colors with Gosode. Based on the theoretical study and analysis, the design concept was set as “Knot” and two clothing items were produced. They were presented as flat design sketches using Adobe Illustrator CC. The works were designed by reinterpreting the characteristics and traditional patterns of paintings in Ukiyo-e and offering a modern take on the shape of the obi.
