To explore the current activities of hospital out patient department nurse in relation to the amount of time spent in health teaching, a small scale of brief time study was carried out in August 1971 for one week. Nine nurses were selected from each clinic in O.P.D. at one of teaching hospital in Seoul. The proportion of time spent in health teaching at O.P.D. was analysed in terms of educational level, marital status, age and working experience on nurses in the study. A second study was conducted on I.P.D. nurses to find out whether the Variables operated in the same way. The following results were obtained: The proportion of patient care activities which mainly medically supportive function occupied 31% of nurses time spent, Personnel activities occupied 20% and managerial activities 19%. Educational and administrative activities which included health teaching turned out to be lowest proportion of all (10%). Analysis of findings indicated that; the highest proportion of health teaching was found in the group of nurses with diploma or higher lowest proportion of time spent; that single nurses participated more actively in health theaching than the amrried nurses; that older nurses spend more time in health teaching than younger nurses. However the wide range of time spent (45 minutes to 560 minutes) in health teaching was a hidden factor fro misinterpretation of these findings. The working experience of nurses influenced the time spent as the longer the years of experience, the more time was allocated in health teaching. There was no difference in the proportion of each professional or personal activity for both groups, the I.P.D. and O.P.D nurses, although O.P.D. nurses showed a tendency to have more activity in health teaching. However the attention should be paid in interpretation the relationship shown above as the two studies were conducted in a defference manner. Considering these factors, the conclusion could be made that educational level. age and experience of nurses may be related to the activity of health teaching at hospital, although the size of study population, dration of study and use of observer were not satisfactively controlled. The writer stongly recommends more intensive study on the subject should be conducted in order to draw general inferences of health teaching activities of nurses in general teaching hospitals.

This study was conducted to analyze the effect of the different land covers of an urban park (Hyowon park) in downtown Suwon on the urban thermal variations during a hot summer. The effect of the air temperature reduction in the urban park was 4.4%-4.5% for the downtown residence (Maetan-dong). This value was about 0.8% lower than that of the outskirts residence (Sanggwanggyo-dong). The daily mean temperature, daily maximum temperature, summer day and heat wave frequency were measured under the different land covers (cement-block, grass, pine-grass, shading area and mixed forest) showed these values generally decreased under natural land cover types. Daily minimum temperature and tropical night frequency didn't seem to correlate with the land cover types. Means of thermal comfort indices (wet bulb globe temperature, heat index and discomfort index) in the shading area, mixed forest and the pine-grass types were lower than those of cement block and grass types. However the levels of those indices were equal to 'very high' or 'caution' levels in the afternoon (13:00-15:00). In the morning (06:00-08:00), thermal comfort indices of the urban park didn't correlate with land cover types. Therefore, to reduce heat stress and to improve the thermal comfort in urban parks, an increase in the area of natural land cover such as grass, forest and open spaces is required.
