Purpose: To compare the surgical outcomes of functional equator-considering and Parks’ methods in infantile esotropia and partially accommodative esotropia. Methods: The medical records of 96 patients with infantile esotropia and partially accommodative esotropia who underwent bilateral medial rectus muscle recession by functional equator-considering and Parks’ methods were reviewed retrospectively. The surgery success rate at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months was compared by the deviation angle measurement. Results: Overall success rates were not statistically different between the 2 groups. Additionally, there were no differences in surgical success rate of functional equator-considering and Parks’ methods in infantile esotropia and partially accommodative esotropia. When the patients were divided into 2 groups based on 40 PD, no significant difference in success rate between the 2 groups was observed. When patients were divided into 2 groups based on 22 mm of axial length, there was no statistical difference observed. Postoperative overcorrection was 2 (4%) in the functional equator group and 3 (6.5%) in Parks’ method group and postoperative undercorrection was 9 (18%, 19.6%) in each group. The incidence of undercorrection in the Parks’ method group was significantly higher in the greater than 22 mm axial length group (7, 35.0%) than in the less than 22 mm group (2, 7.7%) (p = 0.029). Conclusions: There was no statistically significant difference in surgical success rate between the functional equator and Parks’ methods in infantile esotropia and partially accommodative esotropia. Purpose: To compare the intraocular pressure (IOP) measured by portable rebound tonometer and TonoPen applanation tonometer with pressure measured by Goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT) and analyze the factors affecting IOP disagreement between tonometers. Methods: In a prospective study of 463 eyes, IOP was measured with Icare Pro<sup>® rebound tonometer, TonoPen AVIA<sup>® applanation tonometer, and GAT. Bland-Altman plot, intraclass correlation coefficient, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed to evaluate the agreement of IOP measured by each tonometer and the factors affecting the measurements. Results: The IOP values measured by Icare Pro<sup>® and TonoPen AVIA<sup>® were consistently higher than those measured by GAT, but showed no significant differences with those measured by GAT (p = 0.307 and 0.114, respectively). In Bland- Altman plot, the IOP values measured by Icare Pro<sup>® and TonoPen AVIA<sup>® exhibited excellent agreement with those measured by GAT. Both Icare Pro<sup>®/GAT and TonoPen AVIA<sup>®/GAT differences increased with younger age (p = 0.041 and 0.049, respectively) and higher central corneal thickness (p = 0.019 and 0.035, respectively). Conclusions: IOPs measured by portable Icare Pro<sup>® rebound tonometer and TonoPen AVIA<sup>® applanation tonometer were significantly correlated with IOP measured by GAT. Therefore, such instruments can be useful when measuring IOP with GAT is difficult. However, central corneal thickness and age should be considered when measuring IOP with portable tonometers. 급성폐쇄각발작의 과거력을 가진 백내장수술 시 수정체낭내확장고리의 효과

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of a capsular tension ring (CTR) on the change in postoperative refractive errors and anterior chamber depth after cataract surgery in patients with a history of acute primary angle closure (APAC). Methods: We retrospectively reviewed medical records of 45 patients who underwent cataract surgery with a history of APAC. Forty five eyes were divided into 2 groups based on whether a CTR was implanted (n = 21) or not (n = 24). Spherical equivalent (SE) refractive errors were compared between the 2 groups for 12 months postoperatively. The postoperative anterior chamber depth (ACD) and volume (ACV) were compared between the 2 groups. Results: SE refractive errors in the CTR group were -0.59 ± 1.08 D at 6 months and -0.61 ± 1.04 D at 12 months postoperatively. In the non-CTR group, -0.64 ± 1.30 D, at 6 months and -0.67 ± 1.19 D at 12 months postoperatively. There was no statistically significant difference between 2 groups (p = 0.89, p = 0.84) and postoperative SE refraction shifted to myopic refractive power in both groups (p < 0.01). The postoperative ACD and ACV also showed no difference between the 2 groups (p = 0.13, p = 0.47). Conclusions: The postoperative ACD, ACV and myopic shift in patients with a history of APAC demonstrated no significant difference between CTR-implanted and non-CTR-implanted patient groups.

A sixty-three year old woman presented with sudden onset of dystonic twitching of the extremities and repeatedly downgrading of consciousness in the midnight. She had no history of medical illness in the past but had been suffered from fatigue recently before the onset of the attack. At admission she was neurologically free including neuro-ophthalmologic examination. MRI showed a high signal T1WI mass in the sella protruding into the suprasellar cistern. Hormonal study revealed low value of T3, T4, LH and FSH. Under the impression of pituitary apoplexy she underwent operation via transcranial route. When the protruding diaphragma sellae was opened, milkish pus spilled out. The thick capsule was biopsied and pus was sent for the study. The results of Gram staining and culture were both negative but pathologic report of the specimen was high infiltration of lymphocytes with few polymorphs.

As the networks proliferate all over the world and the application of the geographical information increase recently, the importance of effective access and exchange of GIS data is recognized. However, existing GIS data are generated by many different organizations without proper standard methodologies and data exchange facilities such as clearing houses are being operated on different DBMS with their own schemata. It makes difficult for users to access and utilize the GIS data even the data are open to public. In this research, we provide the users a search system that interfaces heterogeneous repository systems. In order to interact heterogeneous DBMS we utilize the metadata interchange standard (XMI) from OMG.

Objectives : Effects of Bogijetong-tang (BJT) on peripheral nerve regeneration have been reported in a previous study on BJT but additional study on a damaged peripheral neuropathy where its damage level is physically and chemically more severe was needed. Plus, this study was conducted because there haven't been any studies for BJT on central nerve regeneration. Methods : In order to check the effect on central nerve regeneration, the study on cerebellum cells was started and the sciatic nerve was used to observe the effects on a peripheral nerve which was severely damaged both physically and chemically. Nerve recovery effects were observed by analyzing target proteins such as phospho-extracellular signal-regulated kinase, ${\beta}1$ integrin, neurofilament 200, growth-associated protein-43, cyclin-dependent kinase 1, phospho-vimentin, phospho-Smad, and caspase 3. Results : The significant changes of target protein in cerebellum neurons have been observed. The changes of index protein on the axon regeneration and the nerve recovery in the sciatic nerve have been observed and the effects on cell protection were observed, as well. Conclusions : This study confirmed that BJT made a significant influence on nerve protection and recovery of a damaged peripheral neuropathy and it also made a possibility of its regeneration in a damaged central nerve injury.
야관청혈탕이 고지방식이로 유도된 흰쥐의 비만 억제에 미치는 영향

Background : Obesity, the syndrome caused by a high fat diet, is a disease. At the same time, obesity causes diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, and cardiovascular disease. Recently, its prevalence rate is increasing. Yagwan-cheunghyeoltang (YCT) used in this experiment is the prescription of Yagwanmoon added to Cheunghyeol-tang which is reported to be very effective in weight loss controlling and serum cholesterol. It is also reported that Yagwanmoon has significant antioxidant effects and YCT has a significant effect on blood glucose control. Objectives : This study was conducted to experimentally evaluate the effects of YCT on obesity in rats induced by high fat diet. Methods : The experiment was conducted with 4-week-old male rat s divided into 5 groups. They were a normal diet group, a high fat diet group, a positive drug control group, a 1% YCT group, and a YCT 3% group, and were tested for eight weeks. After four weeks of inducing obesity by a high fat diet, rats were allowed to lose weight by following the normal diet group, approximately 30% compared with 10 rats in each group were determined as still obese. Changes in body weight and organ weight and serum cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose-density, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, antioxidant activity were checked. Results : In the experimental groups, we observed weight loss and visceral fat reduction, improvement of liver function, reduction of serum glucose, activation of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, reduction of concentrations of leptin and it showed a significant effect on antioxidants and lipid peroxidation. Conclusions : YCT has significant effects on the regulation of hyperlipidemia and lipid peroxidation associated with obesity and has significant effects on, antioxidants and lipid peroxidation, too. Additional clinical studies are needed.
