We proposed and efficient motion vector coding method based on 2-D motion vector coding scheme. In general, the conventional minimum bitrate prediction method is inefficient for the video sequence with the slow motion. It is because the correlation between the horizontal and vertial motion vectors was not considered in the conventional method. In order to overcome this problem, 2-D motion vector coding scheme was used in the proposed method. And Exp-Golumn codeword was modified for the efficient encoding the 2-D motion vectors. Simulation results show that maximally 25% improvement was carried out by the proposed method.

A block-based face detection algorithm suitable for the video coding system is proposed. In the proposed method, the facial blocks are basically detected by using the DC values of chroma components. And the DCT coefficients obtained in video encoding are used for the accurate detection of the facial blocks. Simulation results show that the detection ratio and the computational gain of the proposed algorithm are averagely 88% and 50%, respectively.

Conventional decoding procedures have some problems in order to obtain reconstructed images with high speed. In this paper, the solutions of these are studied and a new fast decoding algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm uses a convergence criterion that is used to reduce the redundant iteration in the conventional method and to determine continuation of decoding. The initical image similar to roiginal image is estimated firstly in this algorithm. From the simulation resuls, the proposed algorithm is able to achieve the reconstructed image within 3-4 iteration under the objective criterion. Without any increment of the memory, the quality of the image reconstructed by the proposed algorithm has same quality asthe conventional method.

In fractral decoding procedure, the reconstructed image is obtained by iteratively applying the contractive transform to an arbitrary initial image. But this method is not suitable for the fast decoding because convergence speed depends on the selection of initial image. Therefore, the initial image to achieve fast decoding should be selected. In this paper, we propose an initial image estimation that can be applied to various decoding methods. The initial image similar to the original image is estimated by using only the compressed data so that the proposed method does not affect the compression ratio. From the simulation, the PSNR of the proposed initial image is 6dB higher han that of ones iterated output image of conventional decoding with Babaraimage. Computations in addition and multiplication are reduced about 96%. On the other hands, if we apply the proposed initial image to other decoding algorithms, the faster convergence speed is expected.
MPEG-4 Part 10 동영상 압축 표준 성능 개선을 위한 새로운 부호화 방식

본 논문에서는 MPEG-4 Part 10 동영상 압축 표준에 대한 새로운 움직임 벡터 부호화 알고리듬을 제안한다. 제안 알고리듬에서는 주변 블록들의 움직임 벡터 분포와 MPEG-4 Part 10의 구문 요소인 매크로블록 유형을 이용하여 주어진 동영상의 움직임 정도를 예측한다. 그리고 예측 결과에 따라서 독립 부호화 방식과 결합 부호화 방식을 적응적으로 선택하여 움직임 벡터 압축을 수행한다. 모의 실험 결과는 부가적인 메모리나 계산량 없이 제안 방식이 기존 방식들보다 우수한 압축 성능을 지님을 보여준다. In this paper, we propose a new motion vector coding algorithm suitable for MPEG-4 Part 10 video coding standard. In the proposed algorithm, the amount of the motion for a given video sequence is Predicted by using a characteristic of the motion vector distribution for the neighboring blocks as well as the MB_type, which is the syntax element in the standard. And one of the independent coding and the combined coding methods is adaptively employed to compress the motion vector difference. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional methods without additional memory and calculations.
