      • 초음파 처리 망간 촉매의 휘발성 유기화합물 제거 평가

        휘발성 유기화합물 처리 시 플라즈마와 촉매가 결합된 시스템이 효과적이라고 알려져 있다. 망간은 플라즈마 가동 시 생성되는 오존과 미처 처리되지 못한 휘발성 유기화합물을 분해하는데 효율이 높아 망간 촉매에 대한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 이 연구에서는 경제성을 위하여 저가 촉매인 천연 제올라이트를 이용하여 휘발성 유기화합물 및 오존 제거율을 향상시켰다. 음식물 폐기물에서 발생하는 악취가스와 유사한 환경에서 실험을 진행하기 위해 실제 음식물 수거함과 유사하게 100L 반응기를 제작하여 진행하였다. 코로나 방전 방식의 플라즈마를 사용하였고 전압은 10kV, 전력은 1.0mA로 유지시켰다. 초음파 처리를 한 망간 촉매와 하지 않은 촉매의 효율을 비교하여 초음파에 대한 영향을 분석하였다. <sup>**</sup> 이 논문은 2015년도 정부(미래창조과학부)의 재원으로 한국연구재단-나노·소재기술개발사업의 지원을 받아 수행된 연구임(No. NRF-2015M3A7B4049714)

        Quest and Gameplay in the City of The Order: 1886

        This paper reconsiders spatial properties of video games as crucial constituent for gameplay through the case study of The Order: 1886, developed by Ready at Dawn and published by Sony for PlayStation 4. The game is built upon the precarious combination of multifarious elements from the tradition of romance literature to the simulation of nineteenth-century London. The first aim of this paper is to analyze these elements, more specifically in what way the motif of heroic quests and romantic allusions are related to the virtual city. Strong spatial features of The Order: 1886 make it a relevant case for the research of interface and virtual architecture in relation to spatiality of video games. The second goal is to investigate in-game space in terms of Michel de Certeau’s spatial philosophy. The concept of bricolage and everyday tactics adduced by de Certeau is to be applied to the analysis of the game. This paper argues that immersion into the virtual world does not mean watching faithfully simulated vision of London but freely navigating within it, which is intimately linked to the spatial practice de Certeau denominates as tactical movements. In order to assay in-game space as both interface expediting immersive play and the site of bricolage to create personal patterns, this paper takes focus to spatiality that a player perceives and enacts, which becomes a key base in the set-ups of interface as well as the implementation of game storytelling. The significance of this paper lies in the fact that the meaning of in-game space is investigated through a specific case, which can be also employed as a reference for the development of effective interface.

        The Satiric Economy of the Toilet in Jonathan Swift’s Directions to Servants

        This paper investigates Jonathan Swift’s Directions to Servants (1745) in terms of transgressive corporeality. Less studied and little mentioned by Swift scholars, Directions has been understood as a minor work with little coherence. The purpose of this paper is to newly assert that Directions sharply highlights the very dynamics of Swiftian inversion evinced in his poems. “A Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed” (1731), “The Lady’s Dressing Room” (1732), and “The Progress of Beauty” (1720) are all located at the site designated as the “toilet.” The word “toilet” in the early eighteenth century connotes both female space for and activities of dressing and making up, which Swift translates into the processes of defecation and decomposition. The categorization of servants and their daily jobs described in Directions correlates “toilet” activities with the whole household. The presence of servants who blur the divide between private and the public gives rise to an economy of transgression in which grotesque physicality simultaneously serves to establish and erase existing boundaries. The conceptual transfiguration of the body that the eighteenth century witnessed from the communal to the individual, and from the promiscuous to the enclosed, codifies the idea of private spaces within the household, which ultimately stand in opposition to social and physical heterogeneity. Directions not only highlights the rise of divisions within domestic confines but ultimately anticipates the futility of such boundaries. Swift’s directives for servants hinges upon the economy of satiric inversion as such, making Directions an integral work of Swiftian parody.

        도시적 서술자의 등장: 존 스토우의 『런던 답사』를 중심으로

        This paper investigates John Stow’s Survey of London in terms of its narrative structure and the emergence of a new idea of the self in Renaissance England. The Survey has been understood as a work of historiography that disapproves the city’s expansion caused by the agglomeration of a motley crew of migrants. Medieval London was considered a part of a coherent, logical system through the concept of the body politic, which posits a tight link between the state, the church, and the people. In the second half of the sixteenth century, this image of unity became increasingly irrelevant as the square-mile city controlled by ancient institutions of guilds, aldermen, and the Lord Mayor began to be transformed into a gigantic metropolis. The sheer density of new urban layers led to the development of printed media such as panoramas and maps, which helped conceptualize the entire city. The publication of the Survey must be viewed in this context of new urban development, but it also must be noted that Stow’s horizontal perspective clearly differs from that of contemporary historiographies. The authenticity of the Survey is based on Stow’s private experience, which textualizes the changing structure of London by means of memorization and comparison. Located within the outer frame of city chronology, his ward-by-ward perambulation provides a street-level perspective that highlights abrupt changes in the way of urban life. This structure not only effectively underlines the problems besetting urban and suburban developments but also conveys a sense of identity for Stow. His authority as a narrator allows him to fashion a new self, not as a merchant-tailor but as a scholar-author. As a result, the Survey functions as both private narrative and communal history. Stow’s narratorial voice binds different parts into the “hi-story” of London, constructing a new identity at the level of personal life and representing a community at the level of the city. The presence of the first-person narrator and his perambulation in the Survey relate the work with metropolitan literature in its inchoate form, punctuating the fact that the representation of the city is always linked to the demarcation of the subject position.

        Non-yellowish and heat-resistant adhesive for a transparent heat sinking film

        The development of optical communication techniques and optical components is rapidly progressing inthe era of high-speed information communication. In this area, many studies have been carried out toinvestigate highly transparent optical adhesives. UV-curing adhesives, which rely on irradiating ultravioletrays, are a major candidate for use in this field. However, they suffer from thermal degradation anddiscoloration due to long-term UV irradiation. Thus, in this study, we present a transparent adhesive byreplacing the photo-initiator to improve the yellowish discoloration phenomenon, which affects agingand low surface quality. By replacing 2-benzyl-2-(dimethylamino)-40-mopholinobutyrophenone, whichcauses yellow changes due to a red-shift and donation electron groups, with a -hydroxycyclohexylphenyl ketone, this approach was successful to improve the yellowish discolorationproblem. By taking advantage of the excellent thermal and mechanical stabilities in addition to resistanceto long-term UV irradiation, a transparent heat dissipation film formed by grid-patterned boron nitridenanosheets was manufactured by a transfer printing method. The film can be utilized as a major componentin electrical and optical films which require thermal resistivity and optical transparency.

        Anthony Munday’s Metropolitan Communality in The Survey of London

        This paper analyzes Anthony Munday’s Survey of London in respect to the process of revision and the new idea of metropolitan communality it proposes. The original text, published by John Stow in 1598, critically observes the expansion of the city beyond the social and spatial demarcation of the Roman walls. The decisions concerning which parts need to be adjusted or preserved cannot but be influenced by Stow’s original, but these changes in the revised text simultaneously reflect Munday’s own judgments, particularly regarding how he wishes to recreate his own image of London. The process of updating reveals not only Mundays’ sense of the changing built environment but also provides a wider, inclusive sense of the metropolis. Munday’s 1633 edition describes the increasing complexities of the city and activities of London companies by bringing attention to the economic prosperity they bring to the metropolis. Revised chapters concerning suburban areas and the companies proffer a privileged site from which to investigate Munday’s desire to refashion the idea of communality based on a new urban conceptualization of occupational membership.

        “나는 내 백성 중에 거주하나이다!”: 『유색인 여성』에 나타난 국가 정체성

        The Woman of Colour, published anonymously in 1808, introduces Olivia Fairfield, a virtuous, attractive, and intelligent mulatto heiress whose journey to England to marry her cousin explores the reconfiguration of British imperial identity. While many scholarly analyses of the novel emphasize the theme of emancipation and the representation of Olivia as a mulatto, it is important to note that the novel’s anti-slavery sentiment is not automatically guaranteed by her racial background. The novel takes a conservative stance in terms of racial representation while Olivia’s cultural empowerment stems from her deep understanding and reverence for English tradition. This study aims to examine the nuanced interplay of inclusion and exclusion within the narrative, exploring how Olivia’s identity becomes integrated into the framework of the British Empire. Through the characterization of Olivia, The Woman of Colour asserts a British identity that transcends racial, regional boundaries and encompasses the colony as a source of traditional rural virtue. The novel explicitly presents the mission of the West Indies as the creation of “little England” distinct from the corrupt, materialistic “genteel vulgar.” Culminating in Olivia’s return to Jamaica to fulfill this mission, The Woman of Colour exemplifies the cultural and literary agenda of the century to build a British imperial identity.

        Translating Landscape in Ann Radcliffe’s The Italian

        This paper reads Ann Radcliffe’s The Italian against the backdrop of contemporary interests in the Grand Tour and travel writings. The course of journeys in the novel is modelled around the route of the Grant Tour in Italy, which situates the narrative within the drive of globalization. When foreign customs and geography are transcribed into English idioms, a new domain of intelligence emerges, reconstructing descriptive details into specialized forms of knowledge. The outward movement to the alien territory entails a dialectic between the recognition and the recuperation of differences, which culminate in the rhetoric of typical Italianness and a formation of enlightened English identity in this novel. The process of co-construction forms the pattern of cultural differences, and the binary opposition between the Italian and the English is reinforced through the task of translating foreign landscape. The closure of the novel epitomizes the incorporation of differences by means of interiorized space, which inevitably relies on the overarching production of the center and the periphery.

      • MgO 기반 염기촉매를 이용한 리그닌 촉매 혼합열분해

        열화학적 전환 공정 중 하나인 열분해를 통해 바이오매스를 처리하면 높은 수율의 바이오오일을 얻을 수 있다. 하지만 바이오오일은 낮은 발열량, 산도 등의 문제로 그대로 사용하기 어렵기 때문에 개질이 필요하다. 바이오매스 열분해 시 촉매를 이용하거나 플라스틱을 첨가하면 바이오오일의 품질을 향상시킬 수 있는데, 특히 산촉매인 제올라이트를 사용하면 발열량을 높여주는 방향족 탄소화합물 수율이 증가한다. 하지만 바이오매스 구성 성분인 리그닌의 경우 열분해 시 페놀류를 생성하여 제올라이트 기공에 coking을 일으켜 촉매 비활성화를 촉진시킨다는 문제점이 있다. 산 촉매 대신 염기 촉매를 이용하면 열분해 생성물이 산점을 막는 일이 없기 때문에 촉매 비활성화 방지에 효과적이다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 다양한 염기촉매(MgO, MgO/C, MgO/Al2O3, MgO/ZrO2)로 리그닌 촉매 혼합열분해를 하여 최적의 촉매를 선정하고 리그닌과 플라스틱의 혼합 비율에 따른 synergetic effect를 분석하였다.
