This study started as a part of development of smart wheelchair technologies which can actively detect and manage physical emergency circumstances that can occur when an elderly uses a wheelchair. Examples of bio-signals which can diagnose physical emergencies are ECG and PPG and the purpose of this study is to draw out layout of a knob form suitable to detect ECG and PPG on the controller knob of a wheelchair. This study drew out an alternative knob form of controller by applying ergonomic method such as clay modeling/3D scanning/3D modeling/3D printing, and selected final alternative knob form and worked on detailed design through observance and analysis of motions and evaluation on qualitative convenience of manipulation. This study has its meaning that it drew out alternative knob form which can measure ECG/PPG bio-signals by reinterpreting knob form of the controller.
