Recently, much attention has been focused on the antioxidative defense system by endogenous plant antioxidants that are expected to protect against oxidative damage to membrane functions. Endogeneous antioxidants in plants may play an important role in antioxidative defense against oxidative damage, possibly preserving the biological functions of cells. There is increasing interest in the protective biological function of natural antioxidants contained in dietary plants, which are candidates for the prevention of oxidative damage. New types of lipid-soluble antioxidants β-diketones, tocopherol conjugates, isovitexin, glucosyl-isovitexin, and lignans were isolated in many cases. Water-soluble lignan glucosides and flavonoids were also isolated from sesame and rice seeds. Biological activity and functionality of those plant antioxidants are introduced and discussed to refer the informations for the future scientists.
약쑥의 Eupatilin과 Jaceosidin 함량변이

This study was carried out to select the high eupatilin and jaceosidin containing species and suppose the crop value of Mugwort (Artemisia sp.) investigating plant characteristics. Among the twelve collected mugworts, only one's of Ganghwa and Baekryeongdo contained the eupatilin and jaceosidin and the highest eupatilin and jaceosidin contents weye obtained from the Ssajuarissuk collected in Ganghwa. The result of seasonal variation in eupatilin content indicated the highest contents from May 23 to June 10. Eupatilin content of leaves in upper was higher than in lower leaves and content of middle leaves was not higher than in upper leaves. And the highest eupatilin content found in the leaves of the upper part of the plant, almost 2 times higher than those of the lower of the plant. 본 연구는 최근 다양한 기능이 보고된 쑥의 eupatilin성분과 jaceosidin 성분 고함유 유전자원을 선발하고 기능성 작물로서의 개발가능성을 제시하고자 실험을 실시하고 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 12개 지역의 도서벽지에서 수집한 자생쑥을 분석한 결과 강화${\cdot}$백령도 지역의 수집 쑥에서 eupatilin과 jaceosidin함량이 높았다. 그 중 가장 높은 것은 강화의 싸주아리 쑥이었다. 2. 쑥의 채취시기별 함량을 분석한 결과 eupatilin과 jaceosidin 함량은 모두 5월 23일에서 6월 10일 사이 채취한 쑥에서 가장 높았다. 3 쑥의 식물체 부위별 함량을 분석한 결과, eupatilin 함량은 상위엽이 하위엽보다 2배가량 많이 함유되어 있었으나 jaceosidin 함량은 그 차이가 크지 않았다.
