      • 질적연구로서의 포커스그룹 연구방법(Focus group method)에 대한 고찰

        김후자(Kim Hoo Ja),정남(Kim Chung Nam) 계명대학교 간호과학연구소 2001 계명간호과학 Vol.5 No.1

The purpose of this study was to review the literature in regards to the historical background, characteristics, purpose, application of focus group study method. Key features are: 1. Provides theoretical background and practical guidelines. 2. Enables student and other researchers to plan and execute their own qualitative research studiers. 3. Include comprehensive references. 4. Gives examples of qualitative studies carried out by using this method. In general the advantages and limitation in this approach are those of all qualitative interviews but there are number of strengths and weaknesses specific for focus group method. The main strength is the productions of data through social interaction. The dynamic interaction stimulates the thoughts of participants and reminds them in their own feelings about the research topic. Secondly, on responding to each other's comments, informants might generate new and spontaneous idea which researchers had not thought of before re during. Thirdly all the participatent, including the interviewers have opportunities to ask questions for clarification. There are some disadvantages. Quality of researches and group moderators affect the research process and result considerately. Also recruiting participants for the focus group is time consuming and needs considerable cost. Since developing and understanding of human experiences which focus on caring, communication and interaction in essential for health professional through using research approaches to examine the experience of patient and health care professionals and to evaluate health care, researches are enable to adopt a person-centered holistic perspectives. Thus, this study provides the broad perspective as well as specific details of focus group method, thus contributes in providing to adopt the focus group method in nursing researches.

The cleft lip and cleft palate has relatively high incidence among congenital anomalies. The etiological factors of these anomalies have been studied widely, but they are not yet understood perfectly. The incomplete cleft lip was 1.7 times higher than complete type and the ratio of left, right and bilateral was 2.1 : 1 : 0.3, and complete cleft lip with palate was 4 times higher than incomplete type and the ratio of left, right and bilateral was 1.2 : 1 : 0.9. 3. The incomplete cleft palate was 6.6 times higher than complete cleft palate. 4. There was positive family history in 11.8% of all the patients. 5. The least performed nursing skills were those about respiratory measurement and 41.8% of the objects had the experience. (2) The most inexperienced nursing skills were those skills for maintaining or controlling body temperature and 35% of the objects did not experienced those skills at all. However, the least inexperienced nursing skills were found to be the skills for helping patients to move and exercise, and only 4% showed inexperience. (3) As to the degree of self-confidence in various nursing skills, the highest was in the skills for measurement of vital signs and in terms of the 3-point scale the score was 2.76 in average. The lowest was in the skills related to respiratory needs of patients and the score was 222. This study has done for the purpose of testing the effect of H-R biofeedback training with relaxation technique in the anxiety and the quality of life. Subject were 17 students who had relatively high score of anxiety by Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Subject group pre-post test research was designed. This study has been conducted for collecting data through physiological measurement and questionnakes from June 10 to July 30, 1992 in the biofeedback training room of Y medical center. The instrument used for the study were Spielberger State Trait Anxiety Inventory, Rho's Quality of Life Scale, and Wallston's Health Locus of Control Scale. Cyborg BIOLAB with biofeedback training and Jacobson's relaxation were used for the study. Analysis of data was done by use of paired t-test, Pearson product-moment correlation-coefficient. The result of the study are summerized as follows: 1. In HR biofeedback training with relaxation technique group, post-test trait anxiety decreased significantly.(t=5.65, P<0.1) 2. Post-test blood pressure were not decreased significantly, but post-test pulse decreased significantly.(t=4.12. P<0.1) 3. The relationship between health locus of control and anxiety revealed a significant correlation.(r=. 48, p<.05) 4. The relationship between health locus of control and quality of life revealed a significant corrttlation.(r=-.49, P<.05) 5. The relationship between anxiety and quality of life revealed significant correlation.(r=.63, P<.01) 6. In HR Biofeedback training with relaxation technique group, quality of life scores were increased afger training significantly(t=-2.37, P<.01) In summery, the group of the HR biofeedback training with relaxation technique were decreased trait anxiety and increased quality of life.
