The Angkor remains are main heritage of the Khmer empire from the 9th to 15th centuries. The Angkor remains consist of about 200 temples, and there are a variety of stone structures. However, the Angkor remains suffer from various damages due to high temperature and humidity of the southeast asian climate. Accordingly, this study intends to analyze construction type of Angkor remains and to analyze reinforcement cases of damaged members for preservation of stone structures.

This study presents an effective optimal resizing technique for tall buildings under lateral drift constraints. Specially, an inital design under strength constraints is first performed, and then the lateral load resistant system is designed to control the drift yet exceeding the drift criteria. The rigid diaphram effect of the floor slab is considered so as to reduce the number of the degrees of freedom to three at each floor level. The design optimaization involves minimzing the lateral stiffness of the lateral load resistant system for the structure subject to drift constraints.

This study presents an effective algorithm fomulation of stiffness-based optimal technique to control quantitatively top story lateral drift of 3-D tall frameworks subject to lateral loads. To this end, the displacement sensitivity depending on behavior characteristics of 3-D tall frameworks is established. Also, the approximation concept that can preserve the generality of the mathematical programming and can efficiently solve large scale problems is introduced. resizing sections in the stiffness-based optimal design are assumed to be uniformly varying in size and the technique of member grouping is considered for the improvement of construction efficiency. Two structures are presented to illustrate the features of the quantitative top story lateral drift control technique proposed in this study.

We have already known that the most critical period during lifetime of building is under construction rather than after the buildings are completed. Specially, in case of high-clearance, the collapse of form-shore system increases gradually due to the imperfection related to its installation. So, the use of system support is generalized to prevent this collapse. Therefore, this study investigates the construction conditions of system support and analyze several problems. Also, we present the improved construction method to solve the problems that occur in actual field work.

This study presents the shape optimization of geodesic dome using the automated joint numbering and coordinates computation. Also, the finite difference method and sensitivity analysis are considered for the shape optimization of geodesic dome. For the evaluation of optimization technique, the study selects the three analysis models considering the element grouping and rise/span ratios.

It is very difficult to analyze reasonably the masonry stone pagoda structure through the analysis program because of the discontinuum characteristics. So, we present the efficient load distribution method to solve the above problems and to check the vertical load transfer mechanism. Also, we evaluate the load transfer mechanism by comparing the analysis results between the load distribution method and ADINA analysis program through the practical stone pagoda structural model.

Korea has many historic masonry stone pagoda structures. It is necessary to analyze the mechanical behavior characteristics for the conservation and restoration of masonry stone pagoda structure. But, the modelling and analysis method for masonry stone pagoda structure is not exactly defined because masonry stone pagoda structure should be considered as the discontinuum system such as masonry structures. Therefore, this study performs the structural modelling and analysis for the five-story stone pagoda in Jeongrim-sa temple site and checks the mechanical behavior.

Tapered steel frame structure is usually used as a spatial steel structural system. This study presents the efficient topology optimization technique for the initial design of tapered steel frame structure. First, through the topology optimization, we provide the information about the optimum layout of the structure and then the size optimization is applied to obtain the optimal element sections. Also, the efficient initial shape design of structures can be performed by the member grouping technique and optimization results.

The stone pagoda of Mireuk temple site is currently restoring through the repairing process. This stone pagoda has the various construction types in the inner and outer space. Therefore, the stress concentration and structural behavior need to be considered through the analysis of various construction patterns. To this end, this study presents the structural modelling and analysis considering the discrete element analysis technique to solve the discontinuum behavior between the stone elements. Also, this study performs the structural performance evaluation through the various design variables for the safety of stone pagoda. Through the analysis results, we can find out the small stress concentration in the several members. But, because the stresses and displacements are relatively small, we can secure the safety of the whole structure.

The arched ancient tomb structures have occupied the most parts among the Korean ancient tomb types. It is important to analyze the structural behavior characteristics of composed members due to the upper loads and soil pressures for the preservation of these structures. But, it is not easy to find out exactly the internal structural shape such as the corved soil thickness and side wall width. Therefore, this study selects the representative ancient tomb model and presents the modified structural model, and then performs the discrete element analysis according to the various design variables. Also, this study evaluates the structural behavior characteristics of the arched ancient tomb structures through the analysis results.
